I am going for the London one, anyone else? OMG, this is bad, May 30 is like 2 days before my A-level chemistry and biology exam. I guess I will just have to prepare the team beforehand.

Now the question is that we will be using D/P in the UK tourney which is fine but can we use platinum moves on our pokes, like I want to get heat wave on Zapdos and trade it back to my Diamond but I don't want to get kicked out cuz of that.

If only a European website would open and update us with all the info then I could prepare now since I have Easter holidays. I don't see a problem with using platinum moves since it comes out 8 days or so before the tourney but I was just wondering.

Well, the official rules state that
Pokémon may only use moves (including those learned in an earlier video game) which have been learned through one of the following methods:
  • By leveling up
  • By TM or HM
  • As an Egg move, through breeding
  • From a Move Tutor
  • Already learned by a Pokémon, which was received at an official Pokémon event or promotion
  • Already learned by a Pokémon, which was received from another Pokémon game (such as the Pikachu that knows Surf, from Pokémon Battle Revolution)
  • By Smeargle’s “Sketch” move (limited to the above moves learned by Pokémon between 001 and 492)

So logically you can, and it's not like they can ban you for spending 35 U.S. dollars just to get special move tutor moves for your pokemon. They would only stop you if Platinum came out in the U.K. after the qualifier, because that's what they did when they banned Saikyou Dragonite last year.

I see alot of people using stuff like zapdos and heatran and talking about ev training it. Since they are at lv 50 I'm assuming they're just loading it with vitamins, or is there something else I'm missing?

You can use the Box-trick to fully EV-train such Pokemon, as long as they're not Level 100 (You need experience to get EVs and Level 100s can't get experience). In order to do this, EV the Pokemon like normal, making sure not to level them up. Then, place them in a PC Box, close the box, open it up again, and withdraw the Pokemon, and its stats will be recalculated with the EVs factored in.

Try Route 201, with a Pokéradar, and EV boosting items. You might need certain games to use the dongle methods to get all training items. And you may want to switch repeatedly to minimize exp. gain. It's tiring, but it works.

Philly's about an hour from me. If I get screwed out of Philly either by not being selected, or by losing, I might fly down to Missouri for a day or two and see if I can split a room with a few like-minded folks. The airfare isn't too bad, and is actually cheaper than gas would be.

If people can fully EV train Little Cup pokemon (level 5), you can EV train a level 50. It's really not as difficult as you'd think; there's way to speed the process (Power items) and bad pokemon that give bad experience but the same EVs as not-so-bad pokemon

EDIT: Xia, that would be almost impossible to be honest. None of us live by the PA tornument and most of us will be waking up damn early to get there. I don't think a meeting would be good. We could see eachother at the event and then talk before the matches start instead. And about these "meetings", what would they accomplish. ALL of us will have our teams ready by then and I doubt any of us would share the vacation package with anyone but their family or friends =P
Well then forget that idea, and thanks for correcting my name. =P

At any rate, I think I'm gonna wear a shirt that says "Xia" on the back, and my friends will wear ones that say "I'm with Xia".

Well, I live 2 to 2&1/2 hours from Philadelphia (Queens, New York) by driving, so I'm just having my parents drive me there.

@TTS: Are you sure that airfare to St. Louis is more cost efficient than the gas for driving there? Because Trenton, NJ is about 900 miles from St. Louis. If you are using a 30 mpg car, that's about $90 ($180 round trip). Isn't airfare around $200 round trip?

I'm probably going to wear a white T-shirt decorated with sharpie markers. I'll draw a pokemon or something on it (like the koffing design zerowing had last year), or I can advertise Smogon (yay for everyone hating us). If I can't make my own custom shirt well enough, I'll just wear my Fly Rayquaza shirt. I'm probably going to have one of those pin-on name tags that will have my name and username. I'll also be wearing a Rayquaza hat that I got from the Pokemon Center stall at JAA.

Enlighten me if I'm wrong, I really don't feel like reading through 56 whole pages to find out...Ok, mabye I do, but I don't have the time to do so...

The main strategies used in this tournament so far (the only country in which it has happened yet being Japan, right?) have been Rain Dance and Trick Room?

just to warn you dude you are going to find a bunch load of spam conversations having to do with trickroom. trust me i should know since im the one always talking about it. xD

Hit me up if there is a road trip to tennesee. ill go half on gas money.i live in nyc.Holla at me
Amen, same here. I'll help represent Jersey. Smogon doesn't want me representing them.

EDIT: @Conspiracy Theory:

Cell Phones, etc? And as far as "infecting other games," you could simply use your Diamond/Pearl and trade a hack to them. However, I do not approve of cheating to win..

Trick Room and Rain Dance are successful strategies in this metagame, as they were common last year in America. In Japan, they were sort of common, but Good Stuffs is most dominant in the country of the rising sun. I predict that thanks to Knight Silvayne and Izuru Yoshimura Trick Room is going to be used more often. That means the Rain Dance, while common in America, is inferior to both Trick Room and Good Stuffs (Cresselia is awesome). So if you're working on a team, I'd suggest one of those three.

What do you mean that you can infect your own game for the tournament. There is no reason anyone would do that if they know that random checks will be done. The only reason anyone would "infect" their own game is if they were lazy and didn't want to bother with training for this tournament. As for "infecting" other people's games, that's just mean. To avoid that at all costs, we should, as mentioned earlier, have a person hack check alll our teams during registration or prior to the tournament. It's not like we can't bring a spare Team Information Sheet ;)

When I checked airfare, I came up with about $150 round trip. Admittedly, I didn't put in the exact date, just picked a random weekend in June. But if the costs are roughly the same($180~ for gas, $150-200~ for flying) flying is the obvious choice, since it'll save you a 15~ hour road trip each way.
