More like Purugly, 112 base speed, too bad all it has is Quick Attack and Sucker Punch so steels fuck it over still as long as they have decent defense =/

Or Lickilicky with 1180 max attack and STAB explosion @_@

Yeah, Purugly's the one I really worry about. Smeargle's not even impressing me with a free +2 when it still only has 304 max attack including that boost. Slowbro would be interesting though since it's defensive.

The point of Smeargle is not for it's attack but for when it gets a free +2 to baton pass to others (if that even works?).

It's possible but feels quite situational to actually pull off the sweep, you'd need to weaken the team and leave Smeargle hidden.

Purugly is a Pokemon I always wanted to use in OU but didn't cut the deal, but with a free +2 Attack it might stand a decent chance...especially with it's decent speed.

Indeed, his type coverage is pretty bad, but you're still looking at 526 ATK and 355 Speed, provided Jolly. Its likely gonna need Maggy/Duggy support but eh, its still a scary prospect.

Baton Pass would just be a waste of Purugly's own sweeping ability. Smeargle would be far better anyway, something like this:

Smeargle @ Berserk Gene
Own Tempo
Timid / Jolly

~ Spore
~ Dragon Dance
~ Baton Pass
~ Spider Web / Ingrain / Filler

Bibarel @ White Herb / Salac Berry
Simple
Adamant

~ Waterfall
~ Return
~ Quick Attack
~ Superpower / Natural Gift

Passing the equivalent of Belly Drum + Salac Berry after a Dragon Dance, whilst having a much more reliable way of incapacitating the opponent.

Smeargle has a hard enough time passing with its base 70 speed, I think Purugly would be used simply because it would be able to pass against stuff like Salamence, although the problem with both of those chains (Smeargle/Purugly --> Bibarel) is a fighting type like Lucario. Purugly sweeping reminds me of Last Resort Ambipom, where it is simply not viable without Magnezone/Dugtrio support. However, it does get Hypnosis, so if you can get one of their steels incapacitated you could possibly sweep with something like Salamence. Seems like Purugly would become a decent lure for teams that have a sweeper who is stopped by steels.

God damn, no MewThree.

Anyways, I would like to reiterate Berserk Gene Lickilicky would be giving it a free Swords Dance.

Add Explosion to that, and you have a Pokemon that literally OHKOs almost everything in the game, including Skarmory. Give it Swords Dance and that just boosts its power to insane overkill. Or, you can forgo attack EVs, letting the Berserk Gene compensate, and invest in bulk, making a very bulky heavy hitter.

However, in all honesty, its really unlikely Berserk Gene will even be in the game. Adding Key Items is one thing, but a Hold Item is something else entirely.

Unfortunately Lickilicky has no reliable means of hitting ghosts, other than Gyro Ball, which is resisted by Rotom-A, so it only gives you a solid hit against Gengar. For the sake of calculations, his most powerful(physical)attack against Rotom-A, +2 Power Whip, does 48.68%-57.24%, assuming Bold 252 HP / 252 Def Rotom-A. With Stealth Rock factored in, it is a 2HKO, but it is faster and most likely has Will-o-Wisp. Besides that, Aqua Tail is generally superior for its ability to hit most things normal can't, like Gengar, for neutral damage. Once you have eliminated their ghost then it could work, but it is going to die as well, so it may just end up being a waste of a slot, whereas Purugly can pull off a sustained sweep once steels/rocks are gone.

I'm talking about new concepts like Priority electric lets say.. or a Water-type Close Combat move, etc.

Hold items added to Platinum were critical to the plot.

Berserk Gene is a random item found in Cerulean. And if memory serves me correctly, it was an invisible item in the water. It doesn't get less important than that.

I'm not sure how that is relevant? I mean, I'm saying it's a sound concept, not that they'll necessarily do it. But that there isn't anything preventing this from happening? What are you talking about?

My point is that while it would be possible, there is next to no motivation to actually put the effort into such an unimportant item.

Completely new moves will not happen. Even the elemental starter beams were coded into RS/Colo iirc. If new moves were going to happen, we'd have found them in DPP's coding.

This is a remake, not a new gen.

Oh alright, I'm just clarifying if they make new moves every game. I don't know the pattern for each game. I assumed each game or every 2 games would have new moves.
