Beat Clair, go to the Dragons Den, get the Dragon Fang, answer the old guys questions.. then as you leave the Den talk to the gym leader, she gives you the TM, go back to the old man, get Dratini. That's how it's done.

There's no egg.

Just a brain fart I had there.

Maybe they'll allow Rotom Formes in VGC now...
Nah, I doubt they'll be allowed now. They were banned because PBR doesn't support formes, by the way. That was the only reason why Rotom was banned.

Also, just wondering, what does the Pokéthlon Museum stuff say? I've unlocked all the rooms at least up to the one with Kobushi (Poliwrath man) and gold statues in case there are any more than that. Obviously seeing as I don't speak Japanese (I wish I could though lol) I can only get the gist of what I'm supposed to do. To the extent of, for example just before the Togepi egg, I knew the guy was telling me something about a man with glasses and the Pokémart but that was about it. I'm just proficient with katakana, the Japanese katakana names for most stuff (like the vast majority of pokemon names, pokémart is friendly shop, Kurt is Gantetsu etc) and with cognates like Telebi, Pokéwalker, Ribbon etc. Enough for me to work out how to do the storyline with a bit of trial and error, but not to actually know what the Japanese says. But yeah these museum pieces look interesting and it'd be cool if someone could translate what they say. I might edit Bulbapedia with some photos actually; the Pokéthlon page is really lacking.

I'd post my reaction when I first saw the event, but it consists of a WTF flag so big it would break the tables of this forum.

Well nintendo is making a new pokemon wii game so maybe the formes will be allowed next year.

I feel like already restarting the game. Idk.. after the first E4, the game loses it's spunk and excitement.

Typhlosion isn't as cool as I expected.

I did a run with Typhlosion and wanted to punch him. I don't know if it was the late evolution or the fact that I got a SA+ personality when his special movepool consists of Fire moves and Swift, but I ended up ditching it for Houndoom as soon as I unlocked full customization in the Safari Zone.

I suspect I'll recommend everyone pick Totodile, because every complaint I had about Typhlosion is made worse by Meganium.

Also, two other things:
1) Serebii published Pokethlon stats for the curious - and 5 Pokemon get 5/5 in everything. Mew, Ditto, Giratina-O, Arceus... and Sunkern. Someone has to be trolling.

2) Why would they go to the trouble of removing every reason to use Pal Park, then prevent you from catching Solrock and Seviper anywhere ingame?

I was actually going to restart FOR a Meganium.. is it really that frustrating with it?

1)Doesn't learn Leech Seed
2)Strongest STAB attacks are Solarbeam, Petal Dance, and Magical Leaf-the only reliable one being Magical Leaf
3)If you have access to tutors, then Meganium really isn't too bad. Swords Dance + Seed Bomb + Earthquake + Synthesis is better than Typhlosion, by far.

Basically, the order of best starters is Totodile, Chikorita, then Cyndaquil, imo.

But then you'll love your Extremespd Shiny Female dratini lol.

Blasphemy1: If I remember corrrectly in the origional GSC games the best starter was Cyndaquil, totodile, then Chikorita. I guess Cyndaquil got lazy lol.

I''m currently transferring all my important Pokemon to Platinum, so I can then put them back in a box on my Jap HG.

tedious but worth it.

My Shiny Dragonite will follow me.. oh yes.. it will..

Are you guys all high or something? Typhlosion hardly sucks, is definitely better than Meganium, and maybe even Feraligatr (for sure when you take Red Gyara into account).

There's this magical place called the Goldenrod Department Store. You can buy Focus Blast for 5500 Yen, and Solarbeam for 3000 Yen, which is practically nothing. And you get Sunny Day from the Rocket Radio Tower, which is around the time Quilava will evolve into Typhlosion. So with a set of:

- Flamethrower
- Solarbeam
- Focus Blast
- Sunny Day

You can pretty much take everything in-game on, except for Lance. Case closed.

By the way, how do I get the ! and ? Unowns!?!?!?!? I captured the regular 26, talked to everyone in that house but nothing. Serebii says a new entrance opens up in the main chamber but I checked and I didn't see anything...

Yeah I know what you mean. Though it's probably because the Johto part is just such good fun. :P

Still, the broken katakana English Rocket member in Cerulean cracked me up. "Oh no! Big me mistake! Bye bye! Long Goodbye!" or something rofl.

Also I picked Cyndaquil and used him sparingly. I had him in a team of Alakazam/Gengar/Tropius (trade-over from lvl1)/Steelix/Red Gyarados/Typhlosion. I can't stress enough how much fun it was with a balanced team. Never again will I be blasting through the story with just my starter and some HM slaves. My battle with Lance at the end of Johto was simply amazing really. My team was all levelled 38-42 and I scraped through by the skin of my teeth and an epic showdown. As in, last-move, either I lose or he does, he dragon rushes but it MISSES and I land my ice fang on him for the final KO, all this after several similar situations with random thunders and only just surviving outrages, and in a battle that took over half an hour, and there's a classic. Too bad Vs. Recorder is only for Frontier and Multiplayer.

In the end, each of the starters are outclassed by all the other Starters out there. It's a shame.

I remember reading somewhere that Pokemon found from Pokewalker areas have egg moves. Is there a chance of them having combinations of egg moves that are otherwise impossible to get?

I don't see why somebody doesn't just take a Sunkern and use it in the Pokethlon themselves to confirm whether or not it really has 5 stars in every stat.

Hardly, Feraligatr is much better than Blastoise(and Empoleon to when you look at learnpools), and in the end it is really pointless to discuss because Swampert / Torterra / Infernape are the best from any given generation, so it is clear later generations have more useful starters(overall 3rd and 4th have the best).

I can't see why people think Red Gyarados is hot shit. Honestly, Feraligatr gets Crunch at level 30(upon evolution), has a usable special attack stat(important as Surf is the best HM), and will be atleast 5-10 levels higher than Gyarados at the point you would meet him. Oh yeah, let's not forget ice resistance, which means Pryce doesn't do... anything. In the end, it doesn't really matter, as Typhlosion is just a shittier Houndoom / Arcanine / Ho-oh, and Feraligatr is a shittier(albeit higher leveled and cooler ) Gyarados, Kingdra, Slowbro, Starmie, Vaporeon, or Suicune. Meganium is the only one who isn't really beaten at anything, which just shows you how petty and pointless this argument is since we all know Meganium is pretty bad. Point and case-it comes down to personal preference-nothing more.
