The real hard part will be pulling the move off; Follow Me + Trick Room was really reliable before, but now that there are so many powerful pokemon with spread moves in the mix, they'll have to find sturdier users of the move than before.

I think this is an important note, these calcs are from modest kyogre in the rain

Water Spout v 252/252 Sassy Dusknoir (67.11% - 79.61%)
Water Spout v 252/252 Calm Bronzong (65.52% - 77.59%)
Water Spout v 252/252 Calm Cresselia (46.26% - 54.19%)

This makes it really difficult to get it set up with the old stuff, you could obviously fake out Kyogre but that leaves your partner to taunt or fake out the user and you could use another split move if they use follow me, making it a mindgame on weather you get TR up, meaning that cresselia is probably the best non-uber option, and the other two could be one shot by a specs water spout. Palkia and Dialga can set it up and obviously with their resistances they can take the water spout. Dialga is probably the best option as it can take an explosion but cresselia and Palkia can't.

Do the calculations take into account the reduced damage from hitting multiple pokemon? I know Kyogre not in rain still does roughly 55% to 252/252 calm togekiss.

The metagame is going to have to be fast / have a lot of priority moves to stop kyogre. Just fake out + priority move can reduce kyogres hp thus lowering the power of water spout.

Eruption?

This is why I just look at Typhlosion and just go "not this time buddy" as he walks off upset from the decision frowning from his loss of power that he had in 09.

I can't either see groudon being an erupter either, then again, if your one for surprises.. but hey that's just ones opinion, I'd love to see dragons and waters being beaten by something else in 10!

Since platinum is not my speciality, how are we going to use the rotom forms exactly in VGC?

EDIT: No wait, are rotom forms useable on the HG/SS Wireless?

Eruption probably won't be on Groudon - Typhlosion and Entei will be able to use it, but they'd probably need Scarf to make full use of it. Regardless of whether he has it or not, Groudon would still be able to provide the much-needed Sun boost for Erupting Pokemon.

I was thinking of a Groudon with lava plume and a Heatran. Would that be viable, or isn´t it now with kyogre etc.

Sun teams will still be usable. If most Kyogre are going to run Scarf, sun from a Groudon would take precedence - the weather effect of the slower Pokemon is the one that'll hit the field.

I mutilated a kyogre/ludicolo/kingdra/quilfish team just the other day with a technitop and techniscizor just Mach and Bullet Punching. Did the same to a Sunny Day team with a Typhlosion too. FO+Priority pwnz waterspouters and eruptors alike.

What about Follow Me?

he meant pairing kyogre with a follow me user to protect it from damage so it can get full health water spouts off

Silly gamefreak, always thinking their little pixis are too awesome for tounaments. Including freaking Phione. Really.

Take a closer look at that list. The Pokemon banned are all event Pokemon. Since in HG/SS you can get the Rotom forms without an event, Pokemon that are 'event only' are banned, while all others are allowed. They aren't banning them because they are too good, they are banning them for their limited accessibility for some players beyond the use of hacking their game. When you include the fact that Soul Dew is banned, this further cements this theory, although I think there are some other ways besides event to get them. Let me just retrofit this statement a bit further by adding that the 'event only' status includes obtaining through another Pokemon game that isn't R/S/E/FR/LG/D/P/Pt/HG/SS, so if comes from any outside event, it's banned.

Banning event only Pokemon only goes as far as banning entire species and the item Soul Dew, so Petal Dance Meowth, for example, isn't banned, because Meowth isn't an event-only Pokemon, even if that specific moveset is. One thing I gotta ask, purely for curiosity sake, is if Notched-Eared Pichu is banned. Notched-Eared Pichu seems to be placed as build-up for the next generation of Pokemon, hinting that there might be even broader species differences between Pokemon, as well as possibly having a special function if transported to a future 5th gen game. Since Notched Ear Pichu is essentially an alternate form in this generation, can't evolve, and is event only, I'm wondering if it is out and out disabled from play. Granted, it would be pretty foolish to use it, but still, I gotta ask, is it banned too?

hello garchomp + rotom forms. A nice combo together, escieceilly since rotom can hit water typers with ice beam hard with t-bolt

Soul Dew isn't even an event item. You can buy it in PBR

According to what the last poster said, that's the point. If you think about it, every pokemon species can be obtained between R/S/FR/LG/E/D/P/Pt/HG/SS except for the following: 151 Mew (MPR), 251 Celebi (Japanese Colosseum bonus disk*), 385 Jirachi (Colosseum bonus disk*), 386 Deoxys (Event-only), 489 Phione (MPR), 490 Manaphy (Ranger), 491 Darkrai, 492 Shaymin, and 493 Arceus (all event-only).

*Since the bonus disks were only given out on one specific day (day of Colosseum's release) and they aren't readily available on the mainstream market, they count as events

Soul Dew may only be obtained in Southern Island (event-only), or purchased from PBR (a side game).

EDIT: If you think about it, however, the "pinch" berries (Liechi, Ganlon, Petaya, the Sp Def one, and Salac) can only be obtained through Colosseum, XD, and PBR. Maybe XD and Colosseum count as main games?

Technically the Colosseum/XD purified pokemon (and XD move tutors) are not readily obtainable from any of the main stream games, but last year's and 2008's rules stated that moves may come only from:

-Level up
-Egg move by breeding
-TM or HM (from Pokemon [insert lastest game] and earlier)
-Move Tutor (from Pokemon [insert lastest game] and earlier)
-From another game [besides main stream], already knowing the move (ex. PBR Pikachu)
-From a Nintendo event, already knowing the move
-Through Smeargle's Sketch move

So TPCi just contradicts themselves by not allowing event/non-main-stream pokemon species, but allowing event/non-main-stream pokemon themselves. That just promotes unfairness...

In my opinion, the ban lists for both moves and species should be based on the same factors (both species and moves should be banned for the same reasons). Basically, they can one of the following with these rules:

-Ban all non-main-stream & event-exclusive Pokemon and items (Current ban list, along with XD-exclusive moves)
-Allow all non-main-stream Pokemon and items (Ban list: Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus)
-Allow all non-main-stream & event-exclusive Pokemon and items (No bans at all)

tl;dr TPCi should be consistant on their bans. If they ban event-only species, also ban event-only items and moves. Similarly, if they allow event-only moves and items, allow event-only species

Technically, you may have as many Liechis as you'd like. You can get one in Mirage Island (I did!!!!!), and Surge's Manectric has one too, so you can just steal it.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Australia getting a couple of events, since they have gotten a PRA I think a while back. Of course, they will lose to a select group of Americans, but hey, it's still fun.

:P

Australia definitely does get ignored too much lol.

But I'm not sure the aussies'd be able to do well. The UK did pretty badly in general I'd say, and I'd say the playerbase is similar. Shoe definitely did well though; although he finished 2-3 he went 1-0 1-1 1-2 against batpig and Tasuku Mano, the second loss to Mano only because of a quadruple (yes quadruple) full paralysis plus he was in 4th place after round 2. I was pretty disappointed with the rest of Europe too, but meh I guess.

I should do a lot better next year. My team last year just sucked so badly in retrospect. Why did I use a frail rain team? Just why? It was a polished turd. ._.

I had strong opponents, too (I was there for Germany and finished as 16th). My 1st round opponent was Omegaonut and 2nd round was Kazuyuki Tsuji, so you see xD After that I got the French 2nd placed (and sadly he beat me 'cause of hax and some misspredictions from my side, so he won our reamatch :( )

The "new rules" seem to be pretty cool. I already have some ideas for new teams ;) Let's see, how many Qualifiers Europe will get next year.

I'm thinking I'll try making a team around bulk-up Dialga. I'll just cover its weaknesses, Use Latios or something to kill other groudon, garchomp, infernape, and other stuff that it might have problems with. Dialga makes a pretty good anti rain poke too. I'll probally use Kyogre, Ludicolo, Latios, Dialga.. that would rape

I would love VGC in Australia. Of course, I'm not really a patient person, so I may have to get traded some good Pokemon if VGC arrives in Australia :)
