Now that the hockey game just ended in favor of Canada, someone here from the US needs to win. We need something in national taste, even if it is Pokemon.
CM isn't a good idea, not unless it's a bulky Pokemon and won't be taken out easily. It also can't have weaknesses to common attacking types in VGC, like Dragon Grass, or Water.
I saw someone destroy in the VGC over in Japan w/ a Calm Minding Lugia, as well as a Dialga who came in and Psyched Up all those CM boosts.
As I said, over half the people in this forum, or even on Smogon would be more than happy to give it their all and represent America.this would be great.
however, beating our eastern hemi friends will be just incredibly hard (near impossible) as it is really their main meta -_-
Psych Up shouldn't be used in VGC, I was just saying that because it's what happened in the video I saw (I don't have a link for it). I don't know if Kyogre is the best CMinder, as everyone will be ready to finish him off as quickly as possible (seeing how common he will be). Most teams will also be carrying Grass Knot, which he won't enjoy at all. That, and Cresselia is always a target for Mewtwo. Cress always has trouble w/ Taunt in the VGC.exactly, that's prtty much a given. Only ones that I can actually see that can pull CM off are...well Kyogre, Lugia, and Cresselia at the moment. psych up, however, is an incredibly uncommon and rather "gimmicky" move, which one shouldn't consider as a main threat though.
I don't care who wins, just an American. Hopefully against a Canadian. In overtime.
Well, I'm running Kyogre and Palkia alongside of it. I figure that Kyogre's rain will dampen the power of the fire moves you suggested, though I doubt with Kyogre and Palkia on the field that I have to worry about Groudon and the like being around when Scizor pops in.He has been somewhat common. He has been used, but not as much as Metagross, Clefable, Togekiss, or even Shiftry or Ludicolo.
SD Scizor should work pretty well, but the weakness to Groudon's Fire Punch, Ray's Overheat and Palkia's Fire Blast mean you have to be carefull and have a Pokemon that resists attacks aimed at Scizor, just like you would in singles. Kyogre and Palkia are great partners, because Palkia double resists fire and can face other Palkia, and Kyogre's Rain dampens Fire attacks. 4x weaknesses are even more
risky thx to all the variant Ubers like Mewtwo, Palkia and Ray.
I can't disagree. Kyogre is beast, and one must always consider him as a threat on their VGC team. I don't think he will be the best CM in VGC this year because every one will be packing Grass Knot because of all the heavy Ubers. Kyogre also has to worry of people taking advantage of the rain he brings by carrying Thunder. And over half the time, Kyogres will be slow to set up Rain.he pretty much centralizes the game as he is obviously the most used/abused pokemon in this current metagame. Kyogre is just great because it can pretty much do almost anything: Tank (w/ or w/o CM), TR, Scarfer, Offensive Ogre, fantastic supporter, and more.
That's actually sort of why I'm using him, as my team has trouble dealing with a good number of those you made mention to. Bug Bite is just ridiculous. His infamous Bullet Punch can finish of weakened Tyranitar, while Bug Bite hits the evr so common Ludicolo, Mewtwo, Shiftry, Cress, Abomasnow, Weavile, Lati@s, Exeggutor, and Azelf for Super Effective damage+STAB+Technician and has the handy side affect of stealing berries. He would make a good rain dance Pokemon, as well as a good cover for Hail teams, walling most Pokemon on them.
Those are some good reasons of using him, but outside of that, he really doesn't have much utility in VGC....
Toxicroak is there to deal with Dialga if it shows up early (because its pretty common, especially on TR teams), as well as being a Fake Out lead, have the Sucker Punch priority and allowing Kyogre to use Surf whenever it pleases (thanks to Dry Skin).|I love how Scizor almost completely destroys Mewtwo, because Mewtwo rarely carries Flamethrower and focuses more on Sp. Defense because of all the Specially oriented Ubers. If you have Toxi than you don't really need a fighting attack, unless your afraid Toxicroak will be KO'd too early. Other than Dialga, fighting attacks don't hit anything else besides Tyranitar (who won't enjoy Water SPout / Aqua Tail), Clefable (who isn't that much of a threat, more of an annoyance bcause of Follow Me), and Weavile (who cries in the face of Bug Bite, and completely destroyed by Bullet Punch).
Well, last year the US was not represented by two certain pokemon masters, so if those 2 happen to be picked by the lottery, you can be sure America will win ;)
