Ahhh I was really hoping that was JUST for TCG. Oh well. Thanks anyway. What do you mean by open entry btw?

I may end up traveling out there since I'll be on summer vaca. We'll see. I was planning on going in with Rain Dance or Sunny Day (since I only have legit Groudon and Kyogre to go with plus some other legit ubers). lulz

Last year's nats had a last chance qualifier that was open to anyone - I'm hoping they do that again this year if it's lottery entry @ regionals. While I'm not worried about qualifying if I DO get past the lottery, the fact that I might get fucked over by luck is a problem.

Is the tourney limited to 512 participants (or 1024 maybe) then? Yikes. By the sounds of it even if you get there earlier you still may not get in.

Has the lottery entry been confirmed for this year?

I still don't quite understand about the entry into the VGCs last year. I know that it was lottery and you have a wristband, but what like did like the first 20 people make it in immediately or what? I would like to know the whole story because I'm confused.

Okay, so you would register and they gave you a band. Later on, on TV screens, 128 numbers showed up on the screen. If you had that number on your band, you would go and play. If not, that's too bad then. there's no first come first serve.

Is that what they did for the 2008 VGCs as well?

In 08 VGC's, you had to take the online test. If you made it in, then congrats. There was a raffle there (not sure what they did for that) but almost everyone got in since a ton of people who made it online didn't end up going.

Yeah I remember taking the online test for the 2006 Journey Across America tour. Thanks Serendipity!

The online test used for 2006 JAA could be brought back. Then the players wouldn't have to go to the event and be disappointed that they weren't picked to play. But then, that would reduce the amount of people actually attending the event, which I don't think the PKMN company would want.

Well they said the 2010 registration will be "handled on-site", which leads me to believe there will be a lottery and no quiz this year.

Man are you SERIOUS?? If they don't add more East coast locations or accept 5 times as many people this year as last year then Nintendo is retarded....

I'm just about at the point where I need to start requesting days off from work to be able to travel for tournaments, so this is starting to really piss me off >:(

Here's hoping there's one in Auburn Hills again, 10 minutes from my house.

They need to save up money and just hold it again in all the previous locations they have ever held it in and accept all who show up. Or at least have the quiz and allow whoever passes it to enter, instead of passing the quiz just so you can be told "you weren't picked" a day or two before the VGC. Either last year or the year before, they didn't tell I wasn't picked until after the VGC was over in my area.

They said that last year...

What is your point? They said that last year and it was lottery. They said that this year, so logic leads me to believe there will be the same result. Also, they did a lottery in Japan depite having around 50 different locations. Just to throw that out there.

Well hopefully this year, the lottery system won't be so messed up, or at least have more slots.

some reliable clues lead me to think about the possible italian vgc date and location, but until release (maybe around 10 april) it's uncertain

Since the leaked Seattle date for the US Regional was close to the date they had last year (8th of May this year, 9th or so last year) I expect the time frame of the other tournaments to be similar to the one they had for last year and as you may have noticed, Mr. Pkmn, there wasn't a European tournament at the 6th of June so... I think this is where they hold the Italian tourney.

What i meant about that is because they didnt have a quiz last year, so basically im saying that because they said they handled it on site, it didnt mean that there would be a quiz again. Sorry about that.

Actually, the more, the less of a chance you get to play, which isnt merrier at all :P
Unless you meant just more locations, then that IS merrier lol

I keep hearing weird things about Nationals and Regionals.

Are there state-wide tournaments first, then do they have a National one? What I mean is, do they have a tournament in every state (or a lot of them across the country) first? I'm in US so yeah.

Just trying to get this.

No state-wide, there were 6 last year - Dallas, Philly, Nashville, California (forget where), Arizona (Phoenix IIRC), and I forget where the 6th was. Those were the regional qualifiers. Nationals was in St. Louis - regionals qualifiers (top 4 at each) had a free spot, and people could go there to play without an invite. Worlds was for the top 16 at US Nationals.
