How is a Nike Swoosh similar to a shell? One is a symbol for a shoe corporation, the other is...a shell. You're going to have to give me your definition of logo, because right now I'm just not getting it. So, Pikachu's cheeks are natural animal markings? OK, show me a mouse with giant bright red circles on its cheeks. What about the big metal X on Metagross' face, or the triangles on the bellies of the Lati twins? Are those logos?

Ta-dah! Yes, animals do have cheeks. I have cheeks. I have unusually red cheeks. Not as red as Pikachu's, but Pokemon is exaggerated. Only the shell isn't exaggerated, no animal I know of has anything close to a shell marking on its stomach. Further, I've already gone on record saying that I think that the Lati twins are two of the ugliest Pokemon ever. Metagross is a big chunk of metal, I can't fault it for having qualities that aren't animal like.

Hey, at least the sea otter is advertising Shell and not BP.

(It's grass/dragon if you couldn't tell)

I look forward to burninating the countryside, burninating the peasants, and burninating all the people in their thatched roof cottages with this guy by my side.

Haha Pokemon is selling out to big oil. It was bound to happen someday. But you're right, I can't think of an animal that has a shell marking on its stomach. But no living animal has a bulb on its back or a flame on its tail either. Just like you said, Pokemon is supposed to be exaggerated and unrealistic. I think the problem you have with Mijumaru is that it's based on a real animal (unlike the Lati twins or Metagross) yet has some very unrealistic characteristics. Well, what about Totodile? It's based on a crocodile, it's right there in the name. But have you ever seen a blue crocodile that could stand on two legs and had an orange ridge all down its back? Of course not...Steve Irwin would have been all over that mess. That said, I agree with you that Mijumaru is the worst looking of the three starters, and probably the worst-looking water starter in general. I guess we both dislike him for different reasons...you have a problem with the shell, while I think he just looks too sleek and don't understand how he's going to move with those weird little feet. Once again though, I'll bet you anything the shell is a three-dimensional part of his body and not just some insignia.

Also, speaking of weird insignias, check out this smiley face crab spider!

And no animal has cannons sticking out of it's shell, is covered in fire, walking around with spoons, has a belt on, etc. I don't really see why you don't like the shell on his chest, I think it fits.

I've missed out in the discussion the past couple of days, so I tried to catch up in reading all the posts...but alas, there's too many.

Water starter isn't necessarily bad in my opinion, but what deters me from using it is the fact that I have no idea what its final form would look like. At least with the other water starters you could guess (i.e. Totodile is a baby croc, grows into a beast looking croc), but I can't really imagine this water starter as a larger otter. Just my two cents.

But I'm really hoping for a good typing on the Grass starter. It'd be such a letdown if it got Poison as its secondary type...

Hmm...I wonder what would happen if Bastiodon got an ability that turned 4x weaknesses into immunities? Call it Mighty Power or something.

Or Rampardos Claw Sharpen+Speed version of Hustle.

Unless they make it fat and we get another bulky water I don't see how it could really be that different from Floatzel. Unless it gets an awesome secondary type. (Let's have another 10 pages discussing secondary types..)

I agree completely! There's only so much you can do with an otter, much less two pokemon families of otters...I'm not sure they'll be too different.

*cough* Water-Fighting *cough* Grass-Dragon

Haha. Serebii is so funny, he felt the need to put some news down, so he said: It is confirmed that the Grass starter, much like the other grass starters in the past, has the ability Overgrow. (and etc.)

That sounds like it'd be a bit too confusifying for the kids.

...You know what I'm referring to, right?

Are you telling me you've never watched any Homestar Runner cartoons? Come on, how did you spend your childhood? Doing something productive? Bah!

@Scuba Steve: Haha nice. It looks so much better with its nose below its eyes...I really don't understand why GameFreak's designers chose to put it right in between them. Did you draw this?

its just so ridiculous looking.. [water starter]

i was going to start with the firepig.. but i never got the chance to use Treeko.. so this grass starter is mine. Damn.. evos come out!

Ah. NOW I get it...love that.

And actually, Mijumaru is growing on me, slowly but steadily...I don't think it's supposed to be sad, I think they were just going for the "cute creature muzzle" look on his face.

God, you know what, I think I'm warming up to it too. The more I look at it, the cuter it gets. I think my eyesight is slowly deteriorating.

Don't diss the otter.

If this was the final evolution this would be the only pokemon I'd ever use again!

On topic, I like the grass and fire starters. I think the fire one will have an awesome final form. The water one however, is...uh...fugly.

For all the people putting spreads about the fire pig up, do you really think having such a massive attack stat is good for a fire type? Fire has crap physical moves.
Based on appearance, I'm expecting Atk>SpA. It's certainly unlikely to be a special sweeper. Yes Flare Blitz is lousy. Hopefully either there'd be a new physical fire move, a power boost to the Fangs (which it's almost certain to get, whereas it's unlikely to get the Punches), or it'll get a good secondary attacking type and diverse movepool so it won't have to use Flare Blitz that often.

If he really does turn out to be Water/Ice, how will he be set apart from Pokemon like Walrein or Lapras?
I already answered this. By being a sweeper. Water/Ice is far better offensively than defensively, yet all existing Water/Ice types are defensive. An electric attack rounds out coverage.

Who knows? The little Fire Pig may get access to the elemental punches. It all depends on the evolutions. The first thing that comes to my mind is Ride Boarski, lol.

But it does seem like it'll end up still being a quadruped. Dammit evolutions, come ON!
