So, I start out the battle with Mettle. I plan to have him doing most of the heavy hitting, considering he's the one with the best offenses in the team. He also has access to Charge, which the Special Defense boost should help greatly in the battle. Packing plenty of super potions should keep him nice and healthy for a sweep. Gardenia sends out Turtwig. I should easily get my Special Defense to +6! Turtwig sets up Reflect, which would be a problem if my plan wasn't to set up for the first 6 turns. Can never be too careful, right? Six Charges, and only one super potion used so far. Turtwig has managed to set up Sunny Day and Reflect (again), which look like they might be a problem soon. The Special Defence boosts don't help against Turtwig with its repeated use of Razor Leaf, but I know it'll pay off later in the battle. I use a potion to top my HP off, and start to whittle away at Turtwig's impressive bulk.
After several turns, a good deal of my super potions have been used up, and am at a rather low 10 HP as Gardenia sends out Cherrim. Thankfully, Sunny Day was used up, but Turtwig managed to set up a fresh Reflect to irk me with. I heal up and Mettle starts to work his magic to take down Cherrim. Cherrim uses Magical Leaf, and does only seven damage. This should be a piece of cake! I laugh at Cherrim's feeble attempts to damage Mettle and set up a useless Safeguard, and is easily disposed off with a flurry of Bite attacks.
Next up is Roserade, Gardenia's most powerful pokemon. With Reflect gone and her super potion used up while taking down Turtwig, this should be easy enough. I use my own potion to top off Mettle's HP, and take little damage from Roserade's Magical Leaf. Roserade tries to use Stun Spore, but the Cherri Berry took care of that problem. I know it would come in handy! Gardenia uses another super potion right when I almost take out Roserade. Annoying, but didn't even phase the outcome of the battle. A resounding victory!
