Why does Rhyperior have a Trick Room analysis?

Normally, in the fourth generation, no Pokemon is allowed to have a Trick Room Analysis because just about any Pokemon can use a Speed hindering nature and max out offenses and defenses to defeat a team in Trick Room. Pokemon such as Rhyperior and Slowking seem to be an exceptions.

Rhyperior does because it has the highest non-uber, non-crippling ability attack stat in the game, access to Swords Dance and STAB EdgeQuake, and a terrible speed stat. This makes it fit so well in Trick Room teams that it deserves an analysis. Slowking does because it can easily set up TR because it is so bulky, and can then make good use of it as well.

Nonetheless, they do have personalities, such as the physical/special tendencies of OU/Ubers. I would say that in the lower tiers, however, there is more of a balance that others. There also tend to be more balanced playstyles.

Can somebody tell me the algorithm for determining whether or not a Pokemon with a new 4th Gen ability will get that new ability upon leveling up?
For example, how can I make sure that a Scyther caught in Pokemon XD will get Technician upon evolving into Scizor in 4th Gen?

If you get the last digit of the PID in binary, it will tell you which ability it will get. I think Technician is ability 1, so the last digit must be a 1.

EDIT: @ malcolmpc: Azelf, Bronzong, Mesprit are the common ones. You could use this to find all of them.

You have to check the Pokémon's PID. If you know its IVs, you can calculate its PID with this. That page will also tell you whether the Pokémon has ability 0 or ability 1. This page will then tell you which ability corresponds to ability 0 and which corresponds to ability 1. Even if you have a Scyther in 3rd gen with ability 1, its ability will be Swarm, since Technician didn't exist in those games. When you migrate it, its ability is part of the code that is migrated, so it will retain Swarm. When you evolve it, however, its ability (not just PID) is "re-evaluated." Since Scizor has ability 1, and ability 1 corresponds to Technician, the newly-evolved Scizor will have Technician. If you had evolved your Scyther in 3rd gen, then Scizor would keep Swarm upon being migrated to 4th gen.

NOTE: The IVs to PID calculator in the link can only accurately calculate PIDs for un-bred Pokémon.

i'm looking for a dual screener. Who's a good one?
I'm not sure what tier you're playing, but Bronzong and Cresselia have always been my favorites. Uxie is a good one if you're playing UU.

Does Baton Pass pass the trapping effect of Wrap/Whirlpool/etc?
According to this page, no.

Okay I made a post in the wrong section and it was deleted. I was in a hurry and obviously made an error. I've looked at the forums and i THINK its this forum but I just wanted to ask here...

If I have questions on a pokemon team and their moveset, which forum do I ask that in? It is regarding an all dragon gym leader team (aka I can only use dragon pokemon). Most of the move sets i've taken from Smogon, but I am looking for advice on which goes best based on the team make up.

Well it is about HG/SS so not really old, and the post would be long because its actually asking about move sets and if the ones I picked are actually "correct", if you know what I mean. I have 2 weeks off and will be spending time IVing and Eving and breeding and would hate to spend a lot of time on some pokes and find out from someone that the moves don't really work well together.

Alright here goes. I did click the link in the OP about movesets but it says its no longer valid.

So. Long story short, I am creating a dragon team to be used as a Gym Leader in a pokemon league up here in Alaska. I can't use legendaries and they have to be dragons (so no charizard). I figured out a team and used movesets from Smogon but I am just wondering if my final move selection is...good. I know dragon has a weakness to ice, and being a gym leader and all people are suppose to be able to beat me but I want to just make sure I am not gimping my team because one pokemon has a horrid set up.

1.) Flygon: Toxic, Roost, Fireblast, Earthquake
- I like the Idea of having a pokemon with Toxic to help against people that stall, plus it can cause switching. It lacks dragon attacks though, roost seems nice. This is called the Toxic Stall spec on Smogon.

2.) Altaria: Dragon Claw/Aerial Ace, Roost, Heal Bell, Perish Song/Haze/Roar
- This is called Support in Smogon and I liked the idea of having a pokemon with heal bell. Altaria doesn't seem to be a very offensively strong dragon so the more defensive roll seems better. I am not sure about using Aerial ace over dragon claw, and can't decide about the last spot. The argument was made mostly for Perish Song, since if its down to the opponents last poke and he/she is a wall then it would pretty much end it.

3.) Kingdra: Unsure.
- Kingdra is a tough one for more. I actually like the pokemon and he was the first one that I went over moves for. Initially I picked one of the rain dance specs on smogon such as Rain Dance, Dragon Dance, Waterfall, and Outrage. The only issue I found later is that SEVERAL pokemon specs I picked/looked at (such as flygons) uses a fire move. Rain Dance lasts 5 turns and with Swift Swim makes Kingdra fast, but it would hinder my fights against Grass types or Ice types who would take less damage from my fire because of it. I am really unsure of what to do for him.

4.) Garchomp: Sword Dance, Outrage / Dragon Claw, Earthquake/Crunch, Stone Edge / Fire Fang.
- This is called Sword Dance on Smogon and looked to be the strongest one barring the use of berries and stuff (which I don't want to deal with). I added the possibility of a Crunch since several of my pokemon have Earthquake already and it would be nice against ghosts.

5.) Dragonite: Unsure but possibly Draco Meteor, Fire Blast/Thunder Bolt, Extreme Speed, Earthquake OR Outrage, Earthquake/Water fall, Fire punch, Extreme Speed.
- Dragonite really depends on the others. Looking at the specs he can cover quite a bit of rolls. The first spec is called "Attacking Lead" and the second is "Choice Band" which as its name implies, uses a choice band. I don't know if I like the idea of being stuck into using one move though. I did add Thunder Bolt to the first spec (its not there on smogon) just as possibly something to counter a water type pokemon since they are more common then ice and usually have 1 ice move.

6.) And finally...Salamence: ???
- I'm up in the air about this guy. Both of his specs on Smogon are meant for him to be played with the mighty green snake lizard, which I can't have on my team. So what do I do with this guy? Possibly Dragon Claw, Earthquake, Thunder Fang, Crunch? I am really at a loss here.

So that is it. That is my team. I would really appreciate any and all help regarding moves. I am VERY new to the whole online fighting and while I won't be using this team much outside of "Gym Battles" I do want to make it as good as it can be. I am unsure about using Kingdra with rain dance because several pokemon use fire moves and I am at a loss with Salamence. So yeah...any help would be appreciated. :)

P.S. If I should have posted my own thread about this let me know and I will delete this and do so. I am unsure of where to put this but I really would like help on it. Just want to make sure I am on the right track before I invest a lot of time into breeding this team. :x

Firstly, you don't have much choice with Dragons as a type. Therefore, you can't really change the Pokemon. As for the sets, you are going reasonably well. If you can play competitively and they can't, then six sweepers should be fine. Otherwise, you will need a bit more thought. For Salamence, try Fire Blast/Earthquake/Outrage/Dragon Pulse with a Life Orb. For Garchomp, just go with Swords Dance/Earthquake/Outrage/Fire Blast and another Life Orb. However, you probably want a slower set for Dragonite, something like Roost/Heal Bell/Dragon Claw/Thunder Wave. However, with all that said, it really depends on how your opponents play. I mean, is it a school thing? An internet thing?

Well most of the group is in college or out of college. Alaska sucks when it comes to leagues and competitions and its really just one guy that decided he wanted to start this. We mostly just do it for fun and its local, not internet as far as I am aware (ie we meet in coffee shops).

Thank you very much though for the input. Its exactly what I was looking for. So the set I originally posted for dragonite doesn't work well? And thanks for the salamence tips. I really had no idea with that thing.

The Dragonite set you posted works, it is just that mixed sets are better for Mence, and you will want something that is not an all-out sweeper.

Mence? I am still looking up stuff about competitve battling. I was hoping the dragonite would be a leader but I guess thats still qualified as a sweeper huh. I have 2 weeks vacation so I plan on studying a lot.

Do you have any tips to fight off a starmie or other water poke with ice? Would most of the dragons be strong enough to kill it before ice got them out should I try to get an electric move on one of them?

*edit: I am an idiot. You probably meant salamence.

Yes, Salamence. To get rid of Starmie, try a Scarf on Flygon or something, and have Thunderpunch on it. As for surviving Ice Beam, only Dragonite and Kingdra could survive without a Yache Berry, which reduces Ice-Type damage, but I wouldn't rely on that if you can avoid it.

EDIT: @ below, to save room on the thread: I would, but give it a Life Orb, because you get a lot of power and 5 turns is not to bad if you get forced out.

Thanks. I was hoping for Kingdra to kind of beat the ice guys somehow. Not really sure though, since as I posted I am kind of in the air about what to use with him. Would his rain dance spec be bad considering several of my other dragons use fire attacks? It's not like anyone on my team is weak to fire so people probably wont be using fire against me.

First off, I'd like to say hello. I've read analyses and movesets on Smogon since April, after I finished HeartGold, and I just recently got more competitive with my playing. I made a thread on MLGPro.com, where I've been a member for about a year and half now, focusing on Pokemon and its competitive aspects (there's a pretty decent following there, although nowhere near this size in any respect). Anyway, I battled a friend over the weekend and we came across what the both of us cannot seem to explain. I'll post the link to the original post I made in my thread on MLGPro.com, but I'll provide a "tl;dr" for here if reading the whole post is unnecessary.

Whole post on MLGPro.com

My question: How is it that my Tyranitar was able to out-speed my opponent's lead Aerodactyl? I've confirmed that it's moves are Taunt, Stone Edge, Earthquake, and Stealth Rock, so decreased priority isn't an explanation (not sure if Aerodactyl even has any decreased priority moves). There were no stat boosts or anything, both Pokemon were level 100, my Tyranitar did not have a +speed nature and his Aerodactyl had 252 Speed EVs and a +speed nature. Thanks to whoever answers.

EDIT: Posted the wrong URL haha, link corrected.

Welcome to Smogon.

Did you use a ScarfTar?

Nope, the moveset is as follows (not that moves matter, but whatever).

Tyranitar @ Expert Belt
Naive
Some EVs that have ~200 in Speed
Crunch
Fire Punch
Ice Punch
Superpower

Also, something that I just pointed out in the other thread:

He outsped my Ninjask earlier with the same one, though my Ninjask had fucked up EVs and Nature, but that at least means that he didn't have the bare minimum speed.

Aerodactyl's minimum speed at Level 100 = 238
Ninjask's minimum speed at Level 100 = 292

That means that Aerodactyl's speed had to be AT LEAST 292 for a speed tie. However,

Tyranitar's maximum speed at Level 100 = 243

And both were at level 100, it was a Level 100 battle.

im EV training my jolly dd larvitar for attk and spe
