Volcarona

Timid is amazing for doing serious damage/KOing non-scarfed base 90's or less without having to set up at all. Also, HP Ground has been working amazingly for me on this guy

Well it needs some speed to ensure after a +1 that it can out run the specific threats it needs to. I'm trying to remember the set I picked up, but I believe that choosing Timid yielded more EV's to be used leftover for defensive stats than Modest. I don't entirely recall.

i have a timid one and im just wondering what to put the ev's in
i already have 252 in speed and 56 in special attack, should i just max out special attack or invest in some defenses?

k thanks and also for the fourth move i have psychic because my volcarona has hidden power fire -_- are there any better moves to use?

Psychic is fine, as there are many Fighting types running rampant. You might however want to consider Hurricane, as even with shaky accuracy is almost always enough to OHKO most any Fighting type.

Nooooo. Timid is one of the worst natures for it. After one Quiver Dance, you're outspeeding almost everything. Go with bold if you want a bulky booster or modest if you want pure power (i highly suggest bold though).
A 100 Speed Pokemon needs all the speed it can get. Timid allows you to outrun Timid Scarf Hydreigon (which could otherwise be a problem) and speed tie with other +1 and/or Scarf 100s after a Quiver Dance.

How would Hydreigon be a problem? Unless it carries a Super Effective physical move (which, unless it is rock type, Volcarona would likely survive because Hydreigon is timid, and timid pokemon don't often have physical movesets.), it's going to eat a Super Effective STAB +1 Bug Buzz. On the subject of nature, I personally prefer modest. After a butterfly dance, not much can outspeed you anyway. I guess you could run protect to scout for SE moves and choiced pokemon, but that may give them a free turn of setup, so one would have to be careful about using it.

In the sun, surf is no problem at all. But Volcarona can take a surf from a timid scarf Hydreigon and OHKO back with Bug Buzz. A plus +1 Special Defense Modest Volcarona is not even 2HKOed (3HKOed in neutral weather) by surf from a max speed, max special attack Timid scarf Hydreigon. And Volcarona can either set up another Butterfly dance, or outright OHKO it with Bug Buzz.

i thought about hurricane but decided against it because of its poor accuracy and it gets even more redundant coverage on grass types, which i already get with fire and bug.
thanks for the help though

Timid Scarf Hydreigon is pretty bad anyways. Most Hydreigon will be Modest and slower than you, and you can survive a Surf, especially after one Quiver Dance.

My bulky boosting volcorona is timid. I forget why now but it was originally to outspeed specific things after a +2. I wouldn't say timid is that bad for it.

Man, I've been trying to get one of these with good IV's but not only is it being hard to capture, I also keep frequently getting one with either high IV's in HP, SP.ATk and SP.D, but never speed! As if capturing it isn't stressful enough.

Anyway, I see this pokemon as being similar to a big dragon in role, only more special-oriented. It's got a boosting move that functions as a dragon dance, hits really hard, has enough bulk to take a hit or two, and is 4x weak to one common attack type in particular. Sounds like Garchomp or Salamence, if they were special attackers and 4x weak to stealth rock.

Just catch one (female) and breed out the right stats. I it still annoying and slow, but it slow and reliable not so random. I got one with timid 18/17/30/31/8/31 after not to long, and without power items.

PS. First post lol, I've lurked for ages though...

Well, if you want a good modest female one, I can trade you one. Heck, if anyone wants one, just PM me. I don't really care what I get in return. I can assure a minimum of two perfect stats. ;)

The best volc is probably Modest/Timid/bold
My fave set is Bulky BD Bold with Morning Sun and Chesto Rest Timid

I disagree. Mine's Timid and it kicks ass.

FYI, mine has 252 Sp.Atk/252 Speed/4 HP, and uses Quiver Dance/Fiery Dance/Psychic/Bug Buzz. It is a beast on random wifi and the Battle Subway.

Scarfgon isn't going to break volcarona with surf if it switches in on quiver dance. It's just another free quiver dance, and a whole lot of quiver dances if you're running morning sun.

Bulk is infinitely more important than speed on this thing as far as i'm concerned. It's not like you're going to switch into something that can beat it and start dancing; you're almost always going to get one dance in as something switches out.

what about RNG'ing? I'm pretty sure with some help, you can get a 31/31/31/31/31/31 volcarona

i find a strong fighting type or steel helps a lot with the rock weakness. ferrothorn and conkeldurr both match up pretty well with him (in my experience)

How does that prove bulk is more important? You just said that you won't take a hit(maybe), and get a quiver dance off the switch. Where does bulk come in?
