League of Legends: Let's Talk About uhhh??

anyone else stuck in elo hell?

Me, I was really excited for my first ranked game...I never complain about my team but when someone's 0/9 and they're not even the worst person on your team, I mean that's just depressing.

I think they should reset your elo or something if it drops below a certain threshold. Yea I know how the system works when someone's elo raises that means someone else's has dropped. I think they need a new system, even something like shoddy battle has where you're elo's within a range and...actually I just had an Idea, if they just let your elo go back to 1200 on its own if you didnt play for a while I'd be more than happy with that.

2 Months or even more is ok with me. I mean on a game so dependant on something you can't control you shouldnt be punished almost indefinitely if you keep getting stuck with terrible people

At the very least lower the damn penalty for playing with someone afk or a leaver X.X

They do. If you lose a game with a leaver, it forgives the loss and you don't lose ELO.

By the way, Camera, a LoL player, got to level 30 and queue dodged over 60 ranked games in a row to get to 0 ELO. He then singlehandedly carried himself up to 1800. Bigfatjiji, HotshotGG, and other players have done this too.

After enough games, you will be at the ELO you deserve to be at.

Yeah, because they are SIGNIFICANTLY better at the game than most who start out in ranked.

ELO Hell doesn't exist for the players who have experienced the game at a higher level. ELO Hell exists for those who play their first couple of games and lose them, then get sucked down into it because of their inexperience with the game.

When in ELO hell, they might learn how to Pub Smash really well, but when they finally carry themselves out the low ELO they don't have enough experience in actual decent gameplay to be able to hang with the better players who can avoid getting pub smashed, which drops them back down to the low ELO.

In the system they "deserve" to be there, because they can't handle higher ranked play, but they can't handle it because they were forced to become very proficient at a skill that is completely useless at a higher level of play.

Suggesting that ELO hell doesn't exist because good players can get by it is like saying that Russia is easy to conquer because Americans could do it whenever they felt like it. That doesn't mean that invading Russia is easy for everyone. If HotshotGG can climb through "ELO Hell" good for him, but others may not be able to.

If you can't adapt to the scenario well enough - i.e. if you haven't been able to change your playstyle to match those of higher ELO players, you won't have the capability to get out of ELO hell. Plenty of people, including myself, have done things like watch livestreams or videos or read guides by the top players, and all of these can drastically improve your gaming. Saying that you're used to low level play, so you can't beat better people isn't a valid argument.

HotshotGG started somewhere, at the same point as everyone else.

Well, not exactly.

If you're in low ELO, you'll be matched with lower ELO players; most of whom are bad. Statistically, if you are better than the competition and your team then you will win more than lose, but that's not always the case. Getting unlucky/disconnects/the opponent's team countering you could mean that the better team (or person) loses.

Besides, I'm not exactly sure how the system works but if you have a 1:1 W/L ratio while playing people at your ELO, it would be very difficult to raise your ELO back to "decent" levels.

I haven't reached ranked yet (mostly because I'm afraid! lol) but you can't help getting matched with feeders sometimes. Most everyone at some point (whether in pubs or ranked) has fed and felt bad about it, but it feels just as bad to be on the losing team thanks to one person x_x

I completly agree with you Killah if someone is 1:1 in W/L ratio; then it should be pretty obvious that they would have a hard time rising in elo or even lowering if they tried against equelly skilled players. But thanks to the magic of disconnections, feeders, and lag it is sometimes possible for the earlier mentioned someone to rise or lower their elo.

Also note that if you get matched up with bad people often, your opponents get matched up just as evenly.

Had extensively bad luck? Play more games. The statistical deviation will grow smaller as you play more. In addition, ranked ELO isn't based too much on W/L ratio but rather how many more games you've won/played. A person with 500 wins and 400 losses will be MUCH higher ELO than a person with 10 wins and 5 losses, even though the second person wins more frequently.

Camera isn't even a great player - 1800 is a really good ELO, but it's not amazing.

After 20-30+ games of feeders, d/cers, and trolls, that whole "Just play more games" thing looks pretty naive. I don't think it's called ELO hell because you can't escape, it's called ELO hell because while you're in it, all you do is suffer. Team games aren't fun if everyone on your team is so bad that it becomes markedly more difficult to win.

I dunno, the opinions on ELO hell have always seemed a bit naive to me, so it bothers me to see the same things repeated over and over again. Yes, you get out by playing more games, if you truly are good enough to get out, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck to just click "Play" over and over again, with no promise of a better game experience.

It's clear to me you're not paying attention and are now spewing back what has been fed to you. No one's saying ELO Hell isn't inescapable, nor has anyone said it's impossible to Win, and if they are they're legitimately bad. When you can wrap your head around that come back, and read the rest of the post.

With me now? ELO Hell is called such because it sucks to play in. You don't have to be bad to get sucked into it for a few games, and even if you're good there may be a stretch of games where you lose because of the poor play of others, which leads to a disheartened state of being. Being in a slump like that, it makes you feel like the game isn't worth playing anymore, and you are thus "trapped" in ELO Hell. Because you're having trouble with this concept, they aren't actually "trapped," it just feels that way.

Does that mean that the player is bad? Not necessarily. They could be quite capable of high ranked play, they just don't have the experience, and they aren't getting the experience because the don't play and they don't play because it's not fun. So yes, playing more games gets you out of ELO Hell, if you deserve to be out of it. But not many people actually want to play games when they are in ELO Hell because they don't feel it's worth it.

The attitude that it's their fault they can't learn is just arrogant and elitist.

It's elitist to say that no one is a perfect player and that everyone can stand to learn a few things? Yeah, sure.

i'd like to get the discussion away from the shitstorm that is elo hell, so

nocturne is really fun to play, i've never lost a game with him when i play him in the jungle. wriggles + boots is all you need early game, and because you have great lifesteal, you can head into the jungle or a lane, autoattack some creeps, and be at full health. in my first game as him, with wriggles + merc treads, i had 5000 gold sitting around with a score of 7/2/4 (the first death was in jungle, nocturne is weak early on so make sure you get some help if you think you're in trouble plus i have no jungle runes), didn't have to back ever, and carried my team to victory.

i'm really pumped for my first ever urf day. looking forward to garen's portable brush as well as jax's rocket launcher

had a fun game as jungle nocturne

i really hate it when there's a pantheon or twisted fate on the enemy team because you always have to leave someone at home to make sure they don't backdoor the nexus

i've found that nocturne really struggles against bulky dps teams, and bulky teams in general. sure, you are basically instagibbing all the squishies in a team, but after that, you need your team's help to take down tanks. i had a really bad game where the enemy team had three tanks and i just felt useless

you can play nocturne like panth or TF though

his ult has such a long range that you can actually split push and rejoin your team in a second

abuse its range - out of panth, tf, nocturne, and shen, nocturne is a very strong tower pusher, tied with TF. if they split push, you win the base race.

I disagree that his ult range is long. While it appears large because of the diameter , his ult radius (you know, the actual distance between you and your prey) is kind of disappointing compared to the hype. Yes, the radius is still 1/4th of the map, but that's still not even remotely close to a TF or Panth who's ults are Global. To put it in perspective, Paranoia at rank 3 can't even get you out of the base from your fountain, and in relation to a "double push," he has to travel halfway to mid down river before he can get within ult range.

We should have like, a league of legends tournament within smogon if we could manage it... lol.

Anyways, i've lost my past like, 10 games in a row (some of them were leaves when we were going to lose and my computer overheated). Any ideas for champs that can carry games easily(level 22, have jungle runes)?

update: lost more games consecutively, check out my match history! (ign is BlocksRcool).

Level 19 right now. I go by xtreme888 on this game. I play a good Amumu and Rammus, though I can also play Nunu, Teemo, and Warwick to some extent.

Oh, didn't realize many people on Smogon played LoL.

I'm around Lvl 22, mostly main with Ryze and Malhazar, can play a decent Heimerdinger, Shen or Ashe.

i had two ideas for this - either a smogon 1v1 tournament, much like the way we handle pokemon battles, or a team 3v3/5v5 mini-tournament which would be harder to organise but i think more fun. thoughts?
