Probably a stupid question, but I couldn't find an answer anywhere and this is my first VGC. Do berries and gems get consumed permanently each match? Meaning I need to farm enough of them for each match. Or will a single berry last the entire tournament?

All consumable items, and any items affected by Trick/Fling/whatever, are restored at the end of every battle. You only need one. This is true for all multiplayer battles (and Battle Subway), not just VGC.

I can't go on Skarmbliss to test my VGC team. I thought maybe a bad connection but I have had no trouble on any of the other servers. The problem is very few people do VGC on the other servers, and I' fighting the same 4 people over and over. Am I the only one having this problem or is Skarmbliss down or something?
The Skarmbliss server has been crashing relatively frequently. You probably joined it just after it had come back up from a crash, and most of the people there hadn't realised it had come back up again yet.

I am completely new not only to the VGC but also to competitive Pokemon. I finally understand, at least the basics of EV training (I think). But I've read all the IV guides, or um RGN? manipulation and it is way too hard for me to comprehend at all, so my question is, Do people always breed for perfect IV's for the VGC? Is there any chance of not being destroyed if I don't have perfect IV's?

At yout question darling, you can do fine without perfect ivs. Think of perfect ivs as legal, anabolic steroids. Basically, the people who have the time [or more often, friends] to rng abuse have the upper hand in every battle, but you would still be better than many people who go there and aren't competitive at all.

Many smogonites do use near perfect mons though, so just be prepared.

RNG (Random Number Generator). Pretty much all the serious contenders will have flawless IVs, yeah. It's possible to succeed without it, but you're putting yourself at a disadvantage if you don't. Speed, though, is always crucial. The other stats are still important, of course, but between the variable damage and the fact that you'll rarely do exactly enough to KO anyway, there's a little room for forgiveness. If nothing else, breed for perfect Speed.

Wow! Fastest response ever! Thank you so much for answering (and not making fun of me!) Is it possible to get perfect pokemon any other way than breeding them yourself and figuring out all those numbers? is there any safe way to trade for them?

Seeing how we are restricted to only using 5th gen pokemon, do you believe that there will be a lot of very similar team compositions? Enough so that after seeing what happens in Washington (or wherever the first tournament takes place) we can base a team on countering what was used there?

Yes, there will be a LOT of similar teams through out Regionals because most people use only the "good" mons of the 5th gen. Usually the Seattle winning team is copied by many players (Last years Seattle team won Dallas I believe). It is not a bad thing to prepare for the Seattle winning team but don't just make a direct counter. Other teams will be played.

The best way to get perfect Pokémon is to learn how to RNG abuse (see this thread: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83057). It may seem confusing, but it's pretty straightforward once you figure out the basics. I would be very hesitant to trade with anyone that I didn't know personally, because you can't really confirm whether it's legitimate.

They are all almost identical. The genies, Reuniclus, Chandelure, Whimsicott, Terrakion, and Conkeldurr are on every team. Then some other common Pokes are Meinshoa.

Ice is extremely rewarding this generation around, as a number of common Pokes are weak to it. The problem is, only 3 Pokes are ice and they all have some problem (Cryoginal has a pathetic special move pool, Vanillux is slow but not slow enough for Trick Room, and Beartic has the lowest special attack of the 3.)

I don't think that's it because it says there are people on the server and it's been a week and I still can't get on...

not sure if this has been answered already, but what are some good ways to counter tailwind or prevent it from being set up?

Trick Room wrecks Tailwind by reversing its effects, and a Whimsicott with Taunt can outspeed every Tailwind user and stop it from going up.
Except for other Whimsicott, of course. The only way you can guarantee it won't go up is Fake Out+OHKO/Taunt, if they don't use Protect first turn or have a Mental Herb.

What's the best EV spread for a Sitrus Berry Sassy Musharna? I've seen from the analysis 252HP/4 Def/252 Sp.Def, but I've also heard 252 HP/108 Def/ 148 Sp.Def.

Is there a guide that explains how to EV train at level 50 compared to level 100? I hear there are bonus points you can save by only using 248 spreads because there is some rounding, but how do you find this out without plugging each and every pokemon into a stat calculator?

All the stats from EVs and IVs are cut in half at level 50. Fortunately, a 31 IV and full 252 EVs (for a total of 63 stat points, 1 for every 4 EVs) makes 94 total, which is evenly divisible by two, so there's no reason to reduce the EVs.

If for some reason one of the IVs that you're training in is not flawless (Hidden Power or just not a flawless spread), then putting 252 EVs will give you an extra half a point that doesn't do anything, because all partial stats are truncated and not rounded.

tl;dr: With an odd IV, you max out at 252 EVs, with an even IV you max out at 248.

Does the level 50 cap have any particular impact on Seismic Toss and Night Shade? Obviously, they do half of the damage that they'd do at level 100, but do Pokemon generally have half of the HP as their level 100 counterparts as well?

Slightly more than half, but not enough to care. (For an example, Terrakion goes from 292-386 at Lv 100 to 151-198 at Lv 50 - naturally, I ended up picking an example that does slightly change things, with the low-end going from 3HKO to 4HKO (w/1HP left after the 3rd hit.)

Question: With Team Preview confirmed again, is TR still going to be a good strategy? Obviously somewhat viable, but does ImprisonLure shut down the majority of competitive TR?
(Was testing the other day. Argh Imprison hits both Pokemon and works through Protect dammit. >.<)

It's not hitting your Pokemon, it's an effect on the Pokemon who used Imprison, if you kill it you are free to TR.
