Why does it require anything weird like that? All it needs is an odd number of players in that round, it will probably happen in every regional for some round, it doesn't even have to just be one round either, somebody got to skip a couple rounds at Atlanta last year.

It's cause if the tournament fills out, there's an even number of people, and I think all of them filled out. :P

Then again it'll probably not fill out in most places this year with 512 places.

The only US regional that filled out last year was Newark.

Also there are 1024 places in US masters this year, which is higher than last year despite removing a chunk of the participants as seniors, so its likely no US regional fills out this year.

Yeah.. I'm a bit confused on to why they did that. I'm not complaining or anything, but it seems weird to increase the openings when you take out a large chunk of eligible population. :s

I don't believe Seniors is that "big" of a chunk. Seniors is a very small age limit, having to be born in 1996, 1997, 1998 or 1999.

It doesn't seem that weird for them to increase the number of spots. TPCi does not have to use the battle boxes anymore, so why would they not make more spots for players? Also, if you look at TCG -- they also go by the Juniors, Seniors, Masters -- Masters is usually at least twice the size of seniors, which could influence the choice to make a larger opening.

I've got a quick question. What item is normally being run on Lead Chandelures (not TR) and Terrakions? Is most everyone using type gems?

Either Fire Gem/Focus Sash/Choice Scarf

I've got a question for the people who have done this before: What do you do to keep yourself from going bananas before the event? Like I feel like I should be playing A LOT MORE but I know it is really fine. HOW ?_?

I've used Life Orb and Wide Lens on my Terrakion. Wide Lens seems like an odd choice, but it changes Rock Slide (or Heat Wave) from having an 81% chance of hitting both enemies to about 98%.

Hmm, last year I played xbox with Alaka, ate beef jerky, and stayed up til 2 anticipating it. Don't do this and you will be fine.

Hah, similar to Tyler, except I didn't have a team finished, so ended up spending the whole night (until 6am, at least) working on my team, caught an hour's sleep, then finished my team in the car.
I also got 400+ hours on HG in two months, so yeah, I don't keep myself from going mad. It's all part of the procedure!

I read that the three most common teams would likely be tailwind, trickroom, and goodstuff. Is accurate? Are there other teams that are really common too?
And also, if you're running tailwind would it be good/necessary/bad to put trickroom on a pokemon, to reverse another player's?

Using TR again to reverse TR can be risky, you might be better off using an Imprison Chandelure with Trick Room or just running a lead with a powered up Ghost or Dark move to OHKO those guys. I'd assume lead TRers are going to be using Mental Herb, so murdering a TR lead opens up the ability to taunt any subsequent TR users. You kind of have to play the guessing game without Imprison: If they're sashed you can taunt them, if they're herbed you can OHKO. Dragon Tail is another pretty reliable TR counter, force the switch on the TRer before they get TR up. If that poke shows up again, you've already broken their sash or opened up an easier OHKO.

Hi

I’m new to pokemon pvp and wanted to know is an earthquake team viable for VGC 2011 as I don’t see no one with one its mainly something called trickbox or anti trickbox

thanks in advance

Double genie (Landorus+Thundurus) with Earthquake+Discharge is probably the best you can get for that, but it isn't very popular because Trick Room and Tailwind teams are a lot more powerful (and consequently more important to counter).

I've been trying an EQ/Discharge team. It hasn't had any problem handling TR or Tailwind teams because of techs.

Some Advice for an Earthquake Dischare team: Mienshao often runs Wide Guard, which will wreck your strategy. Moral of the story: Run HP Flying Thundurus

Don't forget, sandstorm landorus + balloon dory lol

there are other strategies, besides trick room. tailwind, for example.

If you wanted to run EQ+Discharge in a Trick Room, you could go with Krookodile or Golurk alongside Eelektross. Krookodile's got a nice pair of abilities in Intimidate and Moxie, whereas Golurk has the advantage of being a ghost-type.

But as others have said, make sure you have something to deal with Wide Guard. Know which Pokemon commonly run it, and have other options.

How do I get a Beat Up Whimsicott? I have bred countless times a Houndour (Male with Beat Up) and a Nuzleaf (Female) for Beat Up on a Seedot. The Seedot never has Beat Up. How can I get Beat Up on it and Whimsicott?
