Overview: Some of us might of forgotten about this cute little flower. Cherrim did not gain any new toys this generation, except for the buffs that were made to its existing moves such as Growth, Giga Drain, Petal Dance, and the introduction of drought ninetails.

These new changes as well as the new triples battles are very important. Now, Cherrim can play a huge role in supporting its teammates in team battles, or inflict damage and use its notable support movepool in singles.

Now with perma sun being available outside of ubers, i see cherrim doing decent in standard play, but in team battles is where it really shines.

Move sets:

Sunny Sweeper
Cherrim @ Leftovers/Life Orb
Timid
Flower Gift
252SpA / 252Spe
~Growth
~Giga Drain / Petal Dance / Solar Beam
~Weather Ball
~Hidden Power (rock/ground)

Full Support
Cherrim @ Leftovers
Bold
252hp/252Def
~Leech Seed
~Toxic/Protect
~Aromatherapy/Safeguard
~Morning Sun/Worry Seed

Cherrim @ Leftovers
~Leech Seed
~Subsitute
~Protect
~Giga Drain

Triple's Nurse

Cherrim @ Leftovers
~Helping Hand
~Healing Wish/Healing Beam
~Safeguard
~Protect
(NOTE: Helping hand + flower gift is a great combo for physical sweepers)

EDIT: so now that nature power is earthquake, cherrim can do decent hitting on the physical side as well as having more physical attack.

This guy has no use in singles, but looks pretty interesting for multis.

One combo is him and Arcanine with intimidate - to lower the opponent's Atk and buff your SpDef in one, making all your pokes a bit bulkier.

To Be fair Cherrim can fair quite well in 1v1 Combat with Sun Support:

Cherrim: @ Leftovers
252 HP / 176 Atk / 80 SpD [344 HP; 300 Attack ; 355 Special Defense under the Sun]
Gentle or Sassy (+SpD, - Def) or (+SpD, - Spe)
Flower Gift

Growth
Seed Bomb
Nature Power [Earthquake]
Weather Ball [Fire]

Although Cherrim is not making an investment into Special Attack, Growth will allow Weather Ball to deal decent damage after 1 use, and significant damage there after, plus Cherrim's Attack will reach 600 allowing good combined coverage with Grass + Ground + Fire. Keep in mind, Cherrim is the only user of Weatherball capable of using Earthquake (Nature Power), and thus has good coverage without requiring Hidden Power's weaker damage output, thus excusing the need for Special Attack investment as would be necessary for Hidden Power. This set is not a great set; simply an option in NU [paired with Vulpix] to show that it can handle itself decently.

That would function well as a psuedo CBer in the lower tiers, or a wall breaker with its OK speed, actually. I suppose I should revise my statement of "its useless in 1v1" to "its useless in upper tier 1v1" lol.

But yeah, the only issue is that so many things can outspeed and force it out, meaning it will have to hit and run, which is somewhat restrictive. Could indeed have some use, especially given its fairly impressive Special bulk offering it switchins!

600 attack? i must of did my calcs wrong. i just multiplied its max attack stat by 250%.

One problem with this set. Cherrim cannot have weather ball and nature power at the same time! It gets weather ball from Castform and Riserade and nature power from Seedot and its evolutions and Lotad and its evolutions.
A better set would be

Cherrim: @ Leftovers
252 HP, 252 Spe, SpA, or Atk, 4 Def
Relaxed (+Def, -Spe)(OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE) or Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)(SPECIALLY OFFENSIVE) or Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)(PHYSICALLY OFFENSIVE)
Flower Gift

Growth/ Sunny Day (If you don't have Nineales/ Groudon)
Solarbeam/ Seed Bomb
Nature Power [Earthquake]/ Hidden Power[Ground]
Weather Ball [Fire]/ Hidden Power[Fire]

I thought Flower Gift also boosted Sp.A, so that Helping Hand is a boon for special sweepers too?

Regardless, I've always liked Cherirm. The Sunny Sweeper set in particular caught my attention, Growth + Flower Boost gives Cherrim a big boost in sun... I'd hate to be a water type caught with a FlowerGift+Growth Solarbeam.

I agree with the niche it provides in triples but from what I know triples is a lot of drizzle, hail and trick room making sun pretty bad even in trick room due to it reversing a chlorophyll boost. Sun doesnt have a significant multi hit move either (I think). As a growth sweeper its outclassed by Venausaur in the upper tiers and without sun in uu it loses automatic sp def boost advantage to something like quiver dance lilligant. Plus its really ugly without sun.

I dont really think so. Tangela seems much better as a supporter pokemon. In RU cherrim would be eaten alive by all the bugs and it doesnt offer anything that soemthing like Eviolite bayleef doesnt. I mean even Maractus has all around better stats. With NU not being very stable I have no idea what Cherrim would be like there but it wasnt even used in the 4th gen NU metagame so I doubt it will be in the 5th

Would that really be worth it. Ive never played ubers doubles but I imagine Water Spout Kyogre is really key making sun hard to maintain. I wouldnt even waste a teamslot on Cherrim in OU so I odubt I would in ubers. Id much rather just spaam eruption on a doubles sun team.

I wouldn't waste a moveslot on half of the popular doubles pokemon, but we both know that how they perform in OU is irrelevant.

I still feel like itd be a notvery useful niche. Reminds me of belly drum and extreme speed linoone except worse. Its the only pokemon that can do it but its just not very good without a lot of support. Having not used Cherrim in doubles I dont know its capabilities and am not really an expert on the subject.

Cherrim is seriously hampered by vulpix and ninetails' tierings. Without permanent sun, its outclassed by bellosom, not to mention pretty much every other grass type.

That set looks interesting maybe that with ninetales and arcanine who benefits from helping hand and sp def boost as well as Cherrim luring in ice moves in rotation in oreder to get off a free hitn with Arcanine. It could make physical charizard work I guess for those with a big fetish for him. Helping hand+defense boosts+dragon dance+solar power and sun+ pretty much no SR in triples means domination. I assume all pokemon get the sp def boost in rotation so that charizard would be even more effective if you can come in on a grass atack in rotation. Also Flareon with nitro charge sun and sp def, attack, and defense boosts from Cherrim. As well as goving things like Chandelure and infernape more bulk. Venausaur appreciates the extra bulk too with super amazing growth. I know the options dont seem very appealing but Cherrim has the noche of making stuff work.
