np: UU Stage 3 - We Are The Champions

I was wondering what the situation with UU weather wars is. Which is better and being used on the upper parts of the ladder?

My biggest headache in the tier comes from LO Zam. Without spiritomb you are almost guaranteed to have a zam issue, if zam is played with good prediction. Its simply ridiculous. That is not to say I think he is broken. Zam's frailty is just as ridiculous as his ridiculous fire power.

@Godsend Blastoise imo is deserving of the best spinner title for this meta. I wouldn't be surprised to see him make top 10.

I must say that this is the first UU stage this gen that I have really enjoyed. Just so much diversity and some very good competition.

There certainly is a lot of diversity, but I wouldn't say good competition. The ladder was much stronger several months ago before Round 2 ended.

there are so many sand teams runnign around its getting ridiculous. sometimes, i run rd on a random poke just to make sure that once the stupid hippos are dead, i can turn the weather back to normal.

I wouldn't be surprised if by the next stats, Top, Donphan and Blastoise are the top 3 most used in UU. Just being able to Rapid Spin and not be weak to SR or be utterly useless is a godsend in itself.

Rain Dish Blastoise is a solid spinner I've found. I run Rain Dance/Hydro Pump/Rapid Spin/Ice Beam @ Lefties and it's a great cockblock against the rising Sandstorm teams (fuk cradily) and the extra recovery on top of Leftovers actually gives him some longevity. I run Hydro Pump as it puts off common hazard layers from coming in again, bar Roserade who eats Ice Beam, or from preventing most ghosts coming in.

Dusclops/Ferroseed defensive pairing is decent, 'Seed laying spikes and leech seeding stuff for Dusclops to burn and spin block.

blastoise is pretty bad without foresight spin.

which also beats your ferroseed/dusclops combo

I won't argue the ladder was stronger then or that there is not a good number of unskilled players, what I can vouch for is that at least the top 30 are all very good competitors. In addition there is not domineering play style in said parts of the ladder.

Anybody else having great success with Blastiose? I use him as a dedicated spinner with restalk/scald/rapid spin and he's been very good at keeping hazards off the field.

This. Can barely make a team without blastoise nowadays its the best spinner in the tier hands down. (It can also act as a "decent" darmanitan and flygon check in a pinch too)

Blastoise doesn't need Foresight when you're blasting Ghosts with Rain Boosted Hydro Pumps. The only ghost that can switch in is Dusclops. Rain Dance not only gives it extra recovery from Rain Dish, but allows you to take Chandelure and Darmanitan's extremely powerful Fire hits much easier.

What sort of damage is darmanitan doing to max def blastoise? and does anyone know what else can check darmanitan?

Instead of a spinner ive been thinking that a dual screens xatu would be a nice hazard reflector reflector and support poke what with all the hazards flying around in this tier and with reflect it will be hard to pursuit trap.

Scarf sets don't do too much damage to Blastoise, adamant darmanitan dishes out "30.1% - 35.6%" with Flare Blitz and "40.3% - 47.5%" with Superpower. Unfortunately, since Blastoise lacks reliable recovery (unless you're using a rain team heh) it can be worn down throughout the course of the match.

LO and CB sets are another story altogether, they usually flat out beat Blastoise 1 on 1. Adamant CB Flare Blitz deals "45% - 53%" while Superpower deals "60.2% - 71%" (easy 2HKO)

LO sets will win with a combination of Flare Blitz and Superpower.

EDIT: I'm using Scald / Rapid Spin / Roar / Ice Beam on my balanced team. No reliable recover sucks a ton, but Blastoise is more of a 1 time use kinda mon on that team anyway. On my more defensive teams I use Scald / Rapid Spin / Roar / Rest with a Heal Bell Chansey to back him up.

With all this propaganda-like Blastoise talk, it's making me want to use him again this round. :p

I was looking for a rapid spinner for my stall team anyway, and seeing as i'm currently looking to use RestTalk Suicune I can now merge the two together and have extra space mon (which I really needed). It all depends on how well Blastoise can check the offensive fire mons that are running amok...

I honestly prefer DragonTail over Roar for Blastoise just overall feels superior to me and allows him to keep piling on the damage.

Blastoise is ok as a Spinner but he is not a full out counter to any of the fire-types as a bulky water needs to be. He can't even switch into Rhyperior more than once, and can barely fend off Darmanitan a couple times.

And he can't even take out Froslass without dropping himself to ~60% Hp.

I used a gimmicky blastoise set but a good one nonetheless. Max out special defense and the move pool is

Skull Bash
Rapid Spin
Toxic
Waterfall

I realize this set does absolutely no damage to ferroseed but Water/Normal is good coverage otherwise. Skull Bash boosts Blastoise's lower (but by no means bad) defense stat and I mean come on. Just using skull bash makes you a pro

rhyperior seems to be really underrated, especially choice band rhyperior. it hits like a truck, can tank lots of physical hits and has been mvp most games.

Not to mention how awesome solid rock is.

No bulky water can switch into rhyperior twice.

At least choice band rhyperior ( the set i run) it ohko/2hkos all of them, and the only one mine cant outspeed is basically milotic.

Well Empoleon can catch Stone Edges and Suicune can come in and Rest off the damage while Blastoise can't run a viable restalk set still with Rapid Spin.

I actually want to try that Resttalk Blastoise set out, but it doesn't sound like it'd be viable on anything but full stall. Offensive teams really need Roar.

What about cryogonal for a spinner? He's an interesting mon and I see him being better partners with suicune. Why? Cryogonal is weak to fire. Suicune isn't. Suicune is weak to grass. Cryogonal can ice beam grass types.

Now that was just a typing team up keep in mind, so on paper, cryogonal looks better to me when paired with suicune.

blastoise kind of does (and so does hitmontop) if either is running restalk; at the least, they turn it into stalemate.

Is anyone running trickband spiritomb? In theorymon he beats Zam and gives Chandy headaches as well. A modified set of trick/wow/pursuit/suckerpunch is specialized but gives him the ability to really neuter an enemy team. The choice band is tricked to special walls and he switches into the likes of Snorlax, stoutland, machamp and tosses out the burn. It's not a perfect idea but being able to check common threats like Zam, Victini, the three attackers above, cripple walls, and spinblock is something I dont think another poke in the tier can do (off the top of my head)
