I am currently stuck in 4th gen thanks to my budget. I recently got a job and will now be able to get a 5th gen game. Competitive battling has always been something I enjoy. What I want to know is: should I bother trying to go to the VGC's? I'm ready to commit to testing and researching, but I'm also having uncertainties and don't want to get sick of it again because of the same Pokemon appearing everywhere and having clear-cut advantages.

This next season will allow all regions again, so you won't be seeing the same Pokémon more often than you would in any other competitive setting. I'd recommend going to at least one event regardless, just for the experience.

I would say Cloud Nine is good...

My guess is that DoubleJG just made a mistake in his sentence. But yeah, Cloud
Nine is good. I'm planning on using a Golduck for the VGCs, combined with a Cripple lead. Golduck can come in handy when your opponent has a Kingdra + Rain. Not to mention, Golduck pretty much ruins Pokemon such a Toxicroak, which are most likely going to be seen in a lot of Rain teams.

Really now, I think I have to mention that using Golduck is a terrible idea. Golduck can't ruin anything, let alone Toxicroak. Only depriving an already frail pokémon of a small amount of recovery while posing no offensive threat and being 2HKOed in return makes it the opposite of a counter, even.

And as for cloud nine, just don't even bother since none of the main weather pokémon are threatened by Golduck at all: most of them can deal with it easily cause it's got bad stats. Essentially, all you're doing is making the enemy's team slightly less effective whilst you still get beaten down.
Choosing to use Golduck can be defined as managing to knock the hustler's hat off as he pimp slaps you in the face.

So yeah, harsh, I know, but I'm just saving you the experience of losing cause you had a "lol im so original antimeta team" that was really just a nob team. I've done it myself, when I lost like a nob at the 2009 UK nationals with a terribly constructed suicide gravity rain team which I thought was antimeta (it was actually countered by anything). Just think of Golduck as slightly inconveniencing your opponent at the cost of one of your pokémon (both in the team and on the field) and he'll soon feel less attractive. Use a solid team of dependable pokémon and you'll go far provided you don't play badly.

Man, if Explosion weren't nerfed Cloud Nine Lickilicky wouldn't sound like a half-bad idea. Some weather users like to run -Speed so it might outrun them, it's compatible with Trick Room, and has bulk and a movepool. However again his biggest asset is nerfed so I dunno.

PW ftw!!!

A baton pass team, is a bad idea for the VGC 2013?

I actually ran a very successful Baton Pass team with Smeargle, but then they nerfed Dark Void. If you can set it up, it can be fantastic, but now that Dark Void won't give you a free set up turn or 3, I don't really know. Add that to the fact that we know nothing of the 2013 rules :P.

When are we able to get the Autumn Friendly tournament Pokes out of the locked Battle Box? I assumed it'd be unlocked now that the tourny is over. :/

There's also the fact dark void's banned this year too lol.

I'd definitely go with feint cause it's more of a reason to use Gallade. Feint's always useful in just making sure you get kills, and shocking your opponent into a much easier win but on the other hand is much less useful against noobs. You'll probably find yourself not using ice punch much if you pick it, but to be honest I just wouldn't use gallade since a lot of the metagame goes against it.

Ok. Not asking how to beat hack checks but will SOMEONE PLEASE tell me if i DO NOT use an action replay, but DID NOT use the event, and i used flaws in the games programming to "void glitch" my way over to darkrai IS IT HACKING?????

It doesn't matter. Gen 4 games won't be used at VGCs so won't get hack checked and Darkrai isn't allowed in this VGC and most likely future ones.

Lol first of all it's fine because they only check the pokémon you're using; obviously Darkrai isn't going to be hackchecked.

Secondly that's fine the game can't tell you got to Darkrai by exploiting a glitch. Even then, you're not using a first batch Japanese Diamond/Pearl at the event anyway so it's completely fine, the game has no idea you didn't do the event to get to Darkrai if it's been traded from another cartridge.

So yeah it's fine. Also something to remember is, if you didn't hack on your game, then you haven't hacked on your game. Pretty simple really. Lol this reminds me of the time my roommate came home incredibly drunk believing he'd been bum raped. "I THINK I'VE BEEN BUM RAPED" "Well did someone bum you?" "No" "There you go then you haven't been bum raped" lol. He even tried calling the police at one point to report it, after asking what their number was, had to take his phone off him. And yeah he honestly believed he had, even after sobering up (he hadn't been out of my sight all night lol).
This is why you shouldn't drink, kids.
