League of Legends: Let's Talk About uhhh??

Stop bitching and whining, everyone, that goes for absolutely everyone since this thread is full of complaining, and anyone who bickers about the complainers is ruining the thread just as badly. If you want to express a negative opinion then do it in a way that doesn't make the thread annoying for everyone else to read. If you want to tell a cool story about shitty LoL players then think about if it's really worth it for anyone else to read (like funny or whatever) or at least compress it. If it's just going to annoy everyone else to read it then make a LiveJournal or Tumblr and tell your stories there. Stories about games are welcome, bitchfests are not.

Obviously, this is a grey area, but I think I'm going to just start deleting posts that shit up the thread from now on. We are all LoL fans, so can we stop making this the 'I-hate-this-game' thread? Thank you ^_^

The Twisted Treeline discussion has been really good, so it's a shame to just detract from it with bad posting. I've only played two games of it so far and one was not really worth talking about, but I enjoy how fast-paced and skirmish-heavy it is. The small map means lots of potential for clustered fights in the jungle and at the altars which means there's always something exciting going on. Never played old TT so I can't compare it, but this seems a lot more balanced, even though like any game mode certain champs are gonna excel more than others, especially since this is 3v3 and that kinda radically changes kit balance.

With how much shorter the games are, do you guys think gold generation items are worth it? jw

also the new champ is obviously lord zedd

now all we need is a rita repulsa champ and its ok

Hey guys,

So we’re going to be doing a big reveal on this stuff soon, but I wanted to give you a quick gameplay peek of the next champion – the Shadow Ninja.

We’ve worked hard to make a cool gameplay loop that is really ninja-y and lets you be pretty clever. Let me run you through it real fast;

• He can make a stationary shadow of himself that then copies his skills when used. For example, you can throw a skillshot shuriken and he’ll also throw one. If they both hit, then you hit with two!
• He can swap places with his shadow to be elusive, set up ganks, or dodge skillshots
• All his skills can double hit!
• Yes, he uses energy

Shadow Ninja’s gameplay isn’t about deceptive clones, but instead copying himself to extend and increase his power or mobility. And since his moves deal with areas or skillshots, setting up the right positioning to double-hit and maximize your damage is really important.

OK theorycrafters…all yours!

Seem similar?

Not being able to move clone kind of sucks though.

I'm really feeling the new TT now that I've shaken off that first day of "what the fuck am I doing, what is this?" Though I do agree with the fact that brusiers are just a little too powerful on the map right now. It's rare that I dont see a damn Darius. Even worse are the silly little setups you can do with him.

I was duo queuing with a friend the other day and we would just go Yorick + Darius and win the game for free. Yorick bullies top lane all day while bottom goes to town and pretty much anytime the team groups up post 6, I just copy Darius and then suddenly, ACE.

Havent heard mention of Dr. Mundo yet on this map and I dont really know why. New items + Mundo = rage. Overlords mail? amazing. Van Damm's Pillager? Amazing. I would even go so far as to say if you're bored and facerolling too hard you can throw Blackfire Torch on him to make your cleavers dot, and your AOE hit harder.

And I think Blade of the Ruined King kinda needs a nerf. That should not work on anybody with an imagination and a free slot.

I've been seeing a lot of Darius dunks in TT (speccing, playing) too. Easy triple kills. Kayle + Darius cheese is hilarious, he has plenty of time with Kayle ult to do work. Yeti played Maokai, I jungled Kayle, and rem played Darius and he ended up going 20/5 or something.

I like to play Xin Zhao top/jungle in 3s because of his strong presence early game. It's not as fast paced as I like (Dominion player bias) but it's definitely refreshing to play once in awhile. In addition to all the people mentioned, I think Amumu is a monster if played correctly. Catching one person out of position can net your team an ace. I've also been seeing lots of Elise but it's probably just because she's new.

Speaking of which, I finally found an AP champion I like (actually I'm glad I found a non-bruiser besides Leona that I like period). Viktor has a high skill cap but I feel like he clicks with me and he is so fun and rewarding to play. I just love the control W offers and its synergy with E so it doesn't feel like I have to struggle with skillshots in a pinch which is something I feel a lot of AP casters lack.

ideally you are using w and e as separate zoning tools, you don't need w to hit e if you've played viktor long enough, it's a crutch

viktor has insane aoe presence, he can pretty much zone off a whole team by himself with a combination of w, e and r. i love playing him, i experimented with a more bruiser-type build incorporating frozen heart and wota but i'm still unsure as to the optimal build

ok what's the deal with elise? I love her character and playstyle but she just seems way weaker than other mages at caster stuff and weaker than other assassins at assassin stuff. The only build I've found on her that works goes haunting guise, sorc boots then abyssal (normally with a dorans ring or 2). Then I either build tanky (FH, rylias etc.) or deathcap if I need the damage. But no matter what she always feels like she does very little damage, and she still dies fast when focused. I'm hoping they buff her E to do damage in both forms, and maybe a slow in spider form.

As an avid player of the old Twisted Treeline, I have to say the new map feels REALLY small and cramped in comparison. With the removal of the entire top jungle (sans Vilemaw) and the cluster of the altars and three jungle camps where the single camp used to be, it feels like there's really nowhere to go. On the old map, if you were being chased you could try looping around in top jungle back towards their tower and hoped they went the wrong way, or you could run around the big bush next to the mid jungle camps. On this map, even with no wards there's practically nowhere to hide or dodge pursuers since the jungle bushes are so small and the walls are either too large to flash/blink across or are so short they might as well not exist (i.e. altar walls). I suppose that was one of the points of the map edit, but it feels like they went way overboard in that respect and now it's whoever has higher/more speed buffs/debuffs rather than who has blinks/jumps that will dominate along with the bruisers (who tend to have a lot of their own speed de/buffs).

So I want to try the new TT but have no idea what the standard laning and team comp setup is. Anyone mind giving me some basic tips so I don't embarrass myself?

1. bruisers are king. there are a few non-bruisers that are good but bruisers are king
2. flash isn't as important as it was in the old tt or even summoners rift, but still useful on some champions
3. blade of the ruined king is overpowered as shit on anyone that can use it
4. boots + dorans start is standard on everyone. even if you can't make good use of blade or ring, shield is still great
5. a jungler is pretty important since the camps respawn quickly and there's not enough gold in the lanes BUT you may feel smite is not as important since a 'close' game in tt in which smiting vilemaw is everything is very, very limited
6. altars are a great way to snowball the game but remember the game is still about pushing the nexus

are there any other buffs to secure apart from vilemaw

Nopers. It helps some iffy junglers clear (I bet you can't even do the double golems first clear as jungle Kayle without Smite... mind you, I don't have aspd reds, so you'd have to check that in a custom game), but the only real reason to take Smite is Vilemaw.

Personally I don't take smite (I go ignite + flash) but I take to lanes until I get lv 2 because jungling is infinitely easier when I have both Q+W (as Xin).

Then again I'm not very used to not having all of my abilities as a primarily Dominion player. I also just use my standard bruiser runes with him which may not be optimal (AD quints, arpen reds, flat armor yellows and flat magic res blues).

Whelp, Jayce is on sale. Everyone says he's really fucking good and I've been getting all the 6300 champs when they go on sale (cause it's just five bucks, really) and Jayce will be no exception.

Speaking of that, some champs I've bought lately and what I think of them:

Nasus: Fun as hell and if your Q gets farmed you can rape late game but otherwise he's just utterly useless.
Alistar: I'm just not very good with him for some reason. He's difficult to use.
Malphite: Finally bought him. Pretty much insta-win in normals with this guy.
Singed: I fucking love this bro. He's pretty much the ultimate troll, which fits my personality.
Tristana: I'm not usually very good with AD Carries, but I can do pretty well with this girl. Not my first pick in any situation though.
Varus: The only AD Carry I'm good with for some reason. I like using the ridiculous range of his Q haha. Laning phase this guy can harass like a boss which is probably why I always get so farmed.
Vladimir: He's fun, but I just can NOT get kills with him for some reason. What am I doing wrong?

I still don't understand why people would spend money on League of Legends when you can get literally everything for free just by playing...like if you don't play enough to get the stuff you want you don't play the game enough to merit spending money on it.

I completely disagree. I've never bought champs, but I have spent money on this game. I just see it as entertainment money, like you'd spend on going to see films or something, it's just paying to enjoy a video game more, and it's up to other people what makes the game more enjoyable for me. Some people legit have an addiction to microtransactions, and I've seen it in other games; you have to be careful because it does add up. If you don't play the game enough to get the stuff you want but would enjoy it more when you do play and think it's worth spending $5 on here and there to have to grind less then whatever, it's your money. For a lot of people, particularly those who have jobs, it's a small amount of money to pay every now and then; you can also look at it like foregoing a snack you'd buy when you go out or something to buy something that lasts a little longer. All things in moderation though.

Some people aren't into cosmetic enhancements or are patient enough to wait for rune pages or champs, all power to them, but IP grinding is very slow in this game even if you play a lot. You are one of those people, so you probably can't understand the allure it has to others, or see it as a reasonable expense. I'm guessing most people who refuse to pay for free-to-play video games (which makes sense, but seeing it as a waste of money doesn't make sense in this day and age) spend a lot more on intangible or ephemeral things. I guess one advantage of those things is that they are often social experiences and LoL isn't always, and I'm not saying going to the movies is a waste of time, just that this is as equally a viable use of money.

I spend money very rarely anyway, so I have no problem spending money occasionally on a game that has given me far more hours of gameplay than the average retail video game. You have to be responsible, but people who are irresponsible with microtransactions would find something else to be irresponsible with anyway (although I admit microtransactions are a very clever model for both parties, and it can trap people into spending huge amounts of 'small amounts of money').

I'm a college student with a meal plan and a job that brings in a couple hundred every two weeks. The only things I ever spend that money on are clothes very occasionally and a movie ticket every now and then. I have zero problem spending five dollars so I can get a couple champions.

IP Grinding is TERRIBLE in this game to me. I own five 6300 IP champions: Elise, Jayce, Vladimir, Yorick, and Varus, and I'm probably going to use the extra RP I have now to get Shyvana when her price drops. To get those six champs alone through IP it would take me like three months. Or I could just spend like $25 dollars and get them all really easily.

I mean, I'm in a different situation than most people, because I have plenty of extra cash I can spend on a game I enjoy. I absolutely understand your side, but personally I'm just rather impatient sometimes so I want to get these uber expensive champs easily.

Besides, I only get champs that are on sale (besides Elise. She was just exciting :P)

I only buy skins. I also only buy the bulk RP so I don't steadily drain my credit card not realizing it.. I got the Rune Page bundle too and what a lifesaver ~_~ I don't usually use all of my pages but I definitely need to have a good chunk of them on hand for any given game.

idk maybe it's because I'm a girl and I like to play dressup and make things look pretty so I buy skins to make all my champs look prettier.. I only buy skins on sale except for a very few number.. SP Fids since it is on perma sale as a legendary and my darling beloved Heartseeker :V. I'm pretty sure all the RP I have right now is just waiting for more sales.. maybe I have one free skin that I don't have slotted out.

I haven't bought an actual video game in years.. only like 1 cheap $10 PS2 game, I don't play them anymore, I could've bought a Wii game and an old PS2 game with how much I've spent on LoL.

I think if you get a greater entertainment value out of it, and enjoy the game and what you've purchased, then spending money on LoL is just putting your video game money into an online game. Yes it's free and you don't need to spend any money but you can still spend money if you take away more enjoyment from what you bought.

Personally I don't buy champs with RP, on sale or not, mostly because I don't even want that many champs in the end (just females and monsters but not even all of those), so I just grind IP to buy champs and wait for skin sales. I think a lot of the stuff you can buy is really superfluous to your gameplay but Rune Page Bundle and on-sale skins are definitely worth it to me.

idk I can see not bothering to spend money on LoL since it is free and doesn't really enhance your play anything but if you don't go full cashbag (see: Rodan, though at least he enjoys playing even if he's not the best for how much money he's spent x.x) there's not much of a problem.

For the record I have bought 13 champs for 6300 IP x.x which is essentially half of all the champs I own.

Vladimir: He's fun, but I just can NOT get kills with him for some reason. What am I doing wrong?

Go straight to sorc boots and haunting guise. Vlad is very effective against double AP teams as he can take full advantage of abyssal scepter. The biggest mistakes people make on champs like Vlad is going straight to hextech instead beacause its so tempting to play with infinite sustain.

Oh and keep 4 stacks of your aids at all times. Its annoying to check every few seconds for when the buff runs out but this is also essential. 4 stacked aids deals around twice the normal damage.

yeah ive spent a shitton of money over the year ive played; even though im not really that great

id say its anywhere from 500-600 dollars in total, so whatever lol

dont judge me

i love this game

I personally would never spend money on champs/rune pages/runes; only on skins because you can't get those with IP. Besides, I'm not looking to collect every last champion, just the ones that I both enjoy playing and am good with.
