Do you normally form such stark opinions on subjects you've never looked into?

Put me in the group of people who are excited for the Wii U but can't afford it / aren't willing to buy it until more good games come out. The Wii U launch has been underwhelming so far, but if the system is anything like the Wii was, I can expect some incredible games down the line. I couldn't care less about its GPU (I play games for the experience, not the graphics) but the weak CPU worries me...

I guess i'll just have to wait and see.

Wii U uses a more modern approach where the GPU performs tasks that in older hardware designs would have been done by the CPU.
So the GPU is more relevant to your worries than you think.

Linking me to a site called "wiiudaily" is like getting a Halo review from OXM.

For starters, half of the "third party support" titles are being made by Ubisoft of EA. Do you really consider that third-party? Ubisoft and EA were both prevalent through the Wii's entire lifespan. Also, If ZombiU or A3 are running at 1080p, they're running at 30 fps. Therefore it doesn't matter. And it's more than likely the game will run at 720p/30. Find me a source that ISN'T a Nintendo site and prove me wrong.

And I'll let these speak for themselves.

Clearly these "third-party" developers care about the system.

OH, and comparing the Wii-U's two screen gameplay to the DS' is fucking absurd. They perform nothing alike. At best their only similarity is the ability to place inventory items on the second screen.

My life died a little yesterday. I found out that Mario punches bricks instead of headbutting them.

For this reason alone, I will not be getting the New Super Mario Bros.

That hurts. I never knew that either, even though he has always jumped fist first. Oh well, that's not going to stop me from getting one in my hands this holiday season. Though, I challenge the internet to create a sprite patch that allows my dreams of headbutting to be true...

Also, why can't this have a guaranteed release before the end of the year?
One of the games I most look forward to

It's weird, to me the Wii had that "gotta have" vibe just because it was so radically different and innovative. The Wii U however, mind you I like the idea of its tablet controller, but it just doesn't really give off that same feeling; combined with the fact it still uses and requires in cases the Wiimotes, it really just feels like Wii 1.5, or worse what the Wii should have been when launched.

So yeah, I'm in the eventually will get one group, there's no pressing reason to get one right away imo.

Wow... so much bad news. First, Mario doesn't headbutt blocks, and now, Wonderful 101 isn't confirmed.... It shall be Mario season. That, and fans like Mario. I like Mario. Hmmmm... now I shall hope for Wonderful 101 to come out by the end of the year. Curse Nintendo and their terrible launch titles.

I would sell what's left of my soul in exchange for Pikmin 3.

It's been 4.5 years after all.

For anyone holding out on a lower price, don't count on it. Unless the price of the components severely decreases over the next year, I wouldn't expect a decrease in price for the console until the second half of its life cycle. $300 isn't an outrageous price, considering you're getting an HD tablet controller and basically an HD Wii system with an internal hard drive. Nintendo's actually losing money for every basic console sold in the hopes it will pay off in the long run.

They make a profit for every console sold with at least 1 game. So yes, the console is being sold at a loss (which is funny because Reggie said it wouldn't be sold at a loss, but Iwata recently announced it would be). Regardless, the only way Nintendo is losing money on this system is if someone buys it without any games (lol).

The Wii is shit and can't compete with Xbox 360 or PS3 even though it came out before them but that's just Nintendo thinking they're at an advantage by releasing a console early. So even if the Wii U can "meet" the Xbox 360 or PS3 (it definitely can't surpass them in any way) it will be another shitty, overpriced, glorified piece of family-friendly plastic and will be destroyed by the next generation Playstation and Xbox. Mario sucks, the new controller is a terrible idea, etcetera there is nothing good about the Wii U. Hopefully this time the worldwide dumbass consumers aren't uninformed enough to make Nintendo think that they've made a good console
I don't think the WiiU is very good but christ you're retarded.

In any case, I grabbed one at launch because I had it pre-ordered. Still have it sealed and can't justify keeping it so will probably return it in the coming days and purchase it when something I want is released (Zelda, Metroid, Smash, Pokemon... anything). If anyone is getting this for third party support, I'd rethink that...

I wonder how many people that has posted in this thread has actually played a Wii U? From the people I've talked to that bought it, they really like the gamepad and the graphics(imo the best looking game on it right is surprisingly Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed). They also said the interface is clunky and slow, but I think it's getting an update soon, so there's that.

I think this had been said before, but judging the way the first released games look on a newer system is never a smart thing to do. For example, go look at Uncharted 1 than Uncharted 3, see the difference? Wait for some of the later titles to come out to see how the graphics turn out.

I also think it's even to early say you think, rethink, don't think, etc. about third party support. I'll wait and see how Colonial Marines and Bayonette 2 does on it, then you can perform your opinions.

tl;dr: The Wii U has been out for less than a week, so it's way too early to say it's a success or a fail.

I agree with the sentiments of Firestorm. Sure it'll have some shitty little ports, but if you're using 3rd party support as your reasoning behind buying it, as well as a backbone for its defense then lol. You're buying a Nintendo console to play Nintendo games. Let's not try to stray away from that.

In addition to that, I really don't see why people make such a big deal about the price. You're not paying much more than a current gen console for a next gen console, and quite honestly I expected them to sell it for more.

Oh God there are too many things to say.

I'm quite interested in the Scribblenauts franchise, and the new Smash Bros may be enough to convince me to buy one...

but the price!.... ;-;

Ok, is everyone broke as shit or something, how is the price of the Wii U such a huge issue? The 360 and the PS3 were more expensive during their launches. In Australia, the original Wii was only $30 cheaper than the Wii U, and the PS3 was double the Wii U's price. I honestly don't see what the big deal is.

Probably because it's a Nintendo console, and people expect those to cost $150 bucks. People indeed seem to forget that the PS3 cost $600 at release (at least it did here in the Netherlands, €600). Now, the Wii U has comparable or hardware and the additional gamepad, so I don't see why the launch price isn't justified.

Just wondering if anyone else finds the Wii U reminiscent of the Sega Dreamcast, with a controller with a screen in the center. No?

Anyway, I feel the Wii U could be good, but without enough first party launch titles its progress as the next generation gaming console will be sluggish. In the future I'll be glad to see another Pikmin and Zelda game for the bigger screen (hopefully we see another Pokemon, (unlikely) Star Fox or Metroid game). When I see a couple more major games like these, I'll be more interested in the Wii U - right now I don't see much point in buying it at launch price for the few titles I'm interested in for it.

Totally agreed, in the next few months (especially with the looming holidays) we will receive a better picture of how it will fair.

I look at third party support as a "bonus," but I won't just go money happy and buy all the third party games that I can get. Only the good ones that aren't sucky ports.

That, and fans like Mario. I like Mario.

If you get the Wii U this early, and don't purchase the accompanying Mario game, you're likely a fool, because everybody likes Mario. For the most part.

Also, I am hoping to get one by the end of the year, if just for Mario and maybe Scribblenauts, and hopefully the Wonderful 101. So, I can then get Pikmin 3 and Rayman Legends early next year. That will be the reason to getting it so dang early.

How can you justify Mario:U as being a port exactly Outlaw? Are you so stuck in the preconception of sequels that because it carries the same artsyle that it is now a port? I will give that it has the same art and recycles the music. But if you aren't playing Mario games for the levels and fun factor then there isn't much else to say.

I had this same problem with the Wii version Layell. "New" Super Mario Bros is fine for handhelds, perfectly fine with it getting rehashed again and again.

But on a console? Fuck. No. That demands something in the vein of 64/Sunshine/Galaxy. You put a DS caliber game on a console, damn straight I'm going to call it a port.

Now you have suggested that 2D games are naturally inferior which they are not by any means. The 2D Mario games also sell more, if you should have a problem with anything it ought to be with that.
