Why is everyone suddenly taking the pancake thing seriously I think it's pretty obvious it's just meant to be funny
Maybe there's also a secret we don't know and Gamefreak's just deferring the real reason why Alolan Raichu is a psychic type with the pancake thing (only to be revealed in game)

On iPad since computer is broke forgive bad grammar/weird autocorrect (or lack of it) or other mistakes.

Opinion Dumb from the 12th August trailer

I really love Team Skull. They look kinda goofy with their "moves" but it's a sort of goofy that works for me unlike Team Flare. Their leader looks like they won't take an end of the world approach as he knows the professor and couldn't become a captain. I would like to know more on this.

As for the new Pokemon, they are rather meh to m, except for the Pokemon with innards out ability (forgot name). This Pokemon, if someone accidently steps on it, throws its innards out and then dies. if there is no food around it, it doesn't find more, it starves itself, like wtf.

Poor Raichu-A, surfing on its tail looks real painful.

Meowth-A is basically a colour change from its regular design. I care more about its flavour text on the S/M website. The monarchy was "destroyed". It didn't just disappear, it was destroyed. It makes me wonder if it was the result of some uprising or rebellion. Destroyed as a word sounds rather violent after all.

If they don't make bottle caps (and change ability capsules and add a way to get more PP Ups/Max) then it will ruin the entire "quality of life" purpose of these items. If GF wants to eliminate cheating, they need to make it easier (or at least as easy) to get perfect pokemon through legitimate means as it is to get them through cheating.

If they add high BP costs to these bottlecap items, people will continue to cheat to get large quantities of them, or just circumvent them entirely.

Considering these are bottle caps, I think one funny thing they could do is have Bottle Caps be able to be found in trash cans (obviously it would be the ones which just increase an IV by 1 if they exist and decide to do this, but its still one less you gotta get). They could also throw in a cruel joke where you found bottle caps... but their ordinary so you throw them back. ;)

That said I do hope that they at least make the bottle caps interesting flavor wise. Would be boring if the bottle caps were call named after colors (meta-wise it would make sense since as each stat is associated with a color, but once again it would be boring). Like I'd like to see there being a bottle cap (or a series of them) for each stat and their associated with a flavor of drink.

Or here's another idea that popped in my head: what if its Mr. Hyper sells drinks and that's how you get bottle caps. You buy drinks, reveal what bottle cap color you got, and return it for Hyper Training.

Did x and y have a website where every new Pokémon got a cute little story? They really make me appreciate every Pokémon shown so far.

Also, when's the next reveal?

Did? They still do. For both XY and ORAS. Infact they're also the only place you can find out some lore about the Mega Evolutions as the games don't include those extra tibits.

So it's literally meant to be as random as it sounds, and people shouldn't have a problem with it because of that?

Basically its meant to imply no one knows and the native Alolans don't care. At the end of the day, that is their Raichu, its part Psychic, floats around on its tail, and is adorable.

They want to give you a feeling that generally Alolans are a laid back people, they don't really worry too much about why Pokemon are here and some changed shape but prefer to find ways to live and work with them making both their and the Pokemon lives better and easier. Alola is less technologically advanced then other regions due to having limited space so they need Pokemon help more than ever. Stereotypical view of islander culture? Maybe, but it does create for an interesting culture at least in the Pokemon world we haven't seen yet.

I just realized how the heck does Wishiwashi even become school form without breaking the ever living hell out of the six Pokemon in one team.
It's school form most likely technically counts as one pokemon.

Also, the other Wishiwashi it calls on seem to be wild, so the six pokemon rule doesn't apply.

That's easy to explain. Trained Wishiwashi can Mind Control Wild Wishiwashi. This Mind Control is strong enough to make them flop up mountains like a Magikarp and not care if they can breath above water or not if that's required for the summoning. In other words, Wishiwashi is a better Psychic than Mewtwo.

I'd like to think about it like I'd think about Slowbro, Slowking, Mantine, Dugtrio, Magneton, Mega Kangaskhan etc. When you look at one of these things, there are clearly more than one physical being that make up the Pokemon, but it is still considered a single Pokemon. Wishiwashi would share the same logic.

Now that I think about it...There are sixteen possible types of Hidden Power currently, right? That's a power of 2; that makes it easy to set up with IVs being arranged even/odd. Add in Fairy, though, and you get seventeen types. Not just not a power of 2; a prime number. I have a feeling it would be much stickier to try to tie that spread to IVs in a non-haphazard fashion. That may help explain why there was no Fairy Hidden Power in XYORAS--too thorny to program in.

And yet, I understand that Fairy Hidden Power is a much-requested feature. I'm guessing that that would be incentive for GF to uncouple Hidden Power from IVs and give it its own variable. This, in turn, could have inspired Hyper Training--the uncoupling would give free reign to alter inborn IVs, since that wouldn't alter HP any longer. Although, as mentioned above, this puts a few thorns in trying to control which HP a given hatchling has (even if no more than five IVs can be controlled...the Destiny Knot's limit means there's always one IV out of your control). That, and keeping IVs and HP coupled would let one fine-tune HP for legendaries with (the alleged) Bronze Caps (i.e. Raikou really wanting HP-Ice when possible; the soft resetting for Raikou to have the right nature and HP-Ice must be nightmarish).

{sigh} A lovely nettle this is, having to choose between the existence of HP-Fairy, and being able to fine-tune any given critter's Hidden Power...

EDIT: And thus, a very odd thought. Would it be detrimental to have a way to re-randomize a critter's Hidden Power type with Bottle Caps? Either several bronze or one silver, I'm thinking. This would perhaps encourage use of Bottle Caps by those without the interest in leveling anything straight to L100.

EDIT THE SECOND: Never mind, this would be very easily abused with re-loading...

It would most likely be that they would have to remake the entire IV-to-HP table to include Fairy, and that would have messed up previous gen Pokemon.

The connection between Raichu's Alolan psychokinetic levitation and pancakes are likely a joke among Game Freak's staff. There's nothing serious about it, other than the possibility of the pancakes being its stereotypical favortie food.

While I am happy when they make it easier to make a competitive team, there should still be some work to earn it (just not excessive).
As I've always said, I love my team more if I put work into it (breeding, EV training, leveling them up to 100) than if they were just given to me.
does VGC 2017 start with the VGC 2016 ruleset?
Yes. The new rules likely won't be added until January thanks to Sun and Moon.

I know! People are strange.
Also, who knows, maybe they make something like blueberry pancakes, but instead of blueberries, they have berries that, over time, give you Psychic powers?
No, that wasn't serious.
Or here's another idea that popped in my head: what if its Mr. Hyper sells drinks and that's how you get bottle caps. You buy drinks, reveal what bottle cap color you got, and return it for Hyper Training.
That actually sounds highly likely, especially in a tropical area, where selling drinks could be very profitable.

Actually Vader, I think you may be on to something. It's theory time.

Raichu's pancakes are full of acid. What happens when you take acid? You go on psychedelic trips. Raichu's psychic powers are a result of it being so high all the damn time. Raichu's Alolan form even appears to be surfing on its tail. Surfers are stereotypically seen as laid back, almost hippie-ish in nature. Hippies are the kind of people typically portrayed as being on acid.

That's it this is the only explanation I'm accepting. I'm onto you, Game Freak

I took a look at the Japanese website and then translated it with Google (gulp). To start off, here is the translation on the English site:

"Even Pokémon researchers don’t know why Raichu’s form changed in the Alola region. The people of Alola seem unconcerned by the question. Their guess: maybe it ate too many sweet and fluffy round pancakes!"

Now for the (most likely horrendous) English translation of the original Japanese site:

"Arora reason that local Raichu has changed the figure is not known to the researchers. Arora local people, not seem to care as 'round, not because eating fluffy pancake?'."

If I could make any educated guesses based on that, the Japanese and English lore is both the exact same. Just as long as the Alolans have a Pokemon that shares their sentiments that pancakes are divine (and they are), then they don't care what happens to it. How this has anything to do with adaptation, or evolution, or even why Pichu/Pikachu doesn't have a "Pancaked" form yet is beyond me, your guess is as good as mine.

That's an interesting and logical theory, but based on my nonexistent knowledge of the history of drug usage and help from my sister*, who has a College Major (or something like that) in Biology, I can determine that in the amount of time that drugs were used, there was not enough time for Riachu to have a Darwin Evolution into a Psychic Type with this theory alone. I have come up with an additional theory that when combined with yours, makes it possible for Riachu to have a Darwin Evolution in the amount of time drugs have been around.

The Acid from the pancakes probably come from Oddish, which according to the Pokedex, is a Weed Pokemon. Oddish also learns the move Acid at an early level making it an easy source of Acid. This gives another reason for Raichu becoming a Psychic type, to hunt Oddish. If this is correct, then this is the first documented Darwin Evolution to occur because something wanted to get high.

Long story short, Raichu became a Psychic Type to hunt Oddish and use their Acid to make Pancakes that are similar to Hippies Brownies.

*I didn't ask my sister for help on this research, but I didn't need to because I'm a self proclaimed expert on Darwin Evolution of Pokemon.

Hello everyone !

I have a theorie based on oricorio birds (and i dunno if someone already written it !) The description sayed that oricorio birds have « four différents forms – the same as the number os island in alola… » My theory is « the type of each oricorio is the main type of each gardian of island ! »

So we have :

Flying/electric -> tapu koko with electric/fairy.

Flying/fire : one with fire…and maybe fairy ?

Flying/psychic : psychic…fairy ?

Flying/ghost : and another ghost…fairy ?

What do you think guys ? (Sorry for my baaad english…)
