Metagame LGPE OverUsed

Sorry to be the newb, but how do you read the speed tier post? bit confusing at first glance
Total Speed/Pokémon/Base Speed/Nature/Level of Speed Boost (if applicable). So 314 / Dodrio / 110 / +Spe / +2 means Dodrio has a base speed of 110 and a total of 314 speed with a +Spe nature and a +2 boost (from Agility, in this case).

Is victreebel viable?
it gets sleep powder; swords dance; sucker punch for faster mons, specially psychic; strong stabs in power whip, poison jab; and even leach life to heal eventually.
Eh i wouldnt say its very viable. Its not bad by any means and you could probably fit one on your team but its middling speed tier and bad bulk make it kinda eh, when there are better pokemon you could use. Its not that victreebel itself is a bad pokemon, its just that when you use one, youre missing out on using something better in its place.
That being said, it SD set will definitely be its best yes.

Hey Guys, i am a newbie at competitive Pokemon and enjoying the possibilties to get them easier in the new Game :) i Love dragonite. I saw he is ranked pretty low sadly, but i was wondering If in can still build a good Team around him :)
Dragonite's nice for a Roost + Dragon Tail phazer sort of set. Offensively it isn't very potent in this meta sadly.

I am really enjoying this metagame. It is casual, yet interesting and I love seeing the original 151 (and MM...). Here is my best team thus far if anyone is interested. Feel free to use and critique, or make suggestions. I'd love to talk through it. It stacks up really well to common threats and has the firepower to dish out substantial damage to this particularly bulky meta.

I'm really liking how this team looks. I was looking for one that runs Mew/Melmetal/Eevee S and my favorite poke, Gyarados. Can you briefly run through the game plan of this team? its potential strengths and weaknesses?

I wanna run Adamant Snorlax, timid Mega Zam, jolly Aero, Naughty Cloyster, Adamant Charizard and Calm Venosaur. Not using alo muk or any legendary (Not fun imo).

Do you guys think this team can work in competitive ?

I'm not super fond of Zard in general, but I likely wouldn't run adamant if I could help it. Other than that, it's not too bad looking. AeroZam is a pretty sweet combo, Cloyster can be spooky, and Snorlax is still a fat bear who can at least do some damage.

With that said, you would have trouble with opposing Mega Zams. But, that's just playing Let's Go OU. . .

Double post for another announcement! We now have November usage stats! These stats go from November 21st - November 30th, and eliminate the start of the ladder when all the megas were legal.

Side notes:
- Mega's aren't separated out like in USM OU stats. The script being used only counts what item the Pokemon is holding, not whether or not it Mega Evolved. Since multiple Pokemon commonly hold Mega Stones on a team, this means either the count would be fairly inflated or we'd end up with what we have, at the cost of not being able to properly separate some non-Mega Pokemon from their Mega.
- The Moveset file is too big to have in a post, so I'm only attaching the file. Everything else I will attach + leave in the post.
- In the Metagame list, "weatherless" teams are not at 100% even though there is no weather because the way that the stats program counts teams, just having Mega Charizard Y makes the team a "sun team".

hey sup. I play this tier in the free time I allow myself. it's the only smogon format I actually enjoy. I've chatted around in various mediums about it, but since I signed up for the tour, I figured I'd say something about it here. Here's my current peak on ladder btw:
QgpU14e.png

I think this tier is actually very well balanced. The simplicity of it allows for a lot less matchup bullshit and keeps games to a max of maybe 30-40 turns. The main threats of M-Zam, Mew, Melmetal, and then the secondary offensive threats make team building restricted, but in a strangely balanced way where a lot of them just check one another. It's genuinely reminiscent of rby/gsc in that there are very few viable mons that you can pick from most of the time, but updated with better features like team preview, megas, and natures with no weird stats. Also playing around stealth rocks, such as when to set them up and then incorporating chip into the decision making process of whether or not you can switch in or out, presents an enjoyable challenge in-game, especially with the exclusion of recovery items like lefties and berries.

I also think there's a lot to say about the mons.

I know a lot of people think this thing controls the metagame, and while I don't think it's bad, I don't think it's top 4. Aside from its access to Sparkly Swirl, it doesn't have a lot of defensive utility. In this metagame where you have a lot you need to prepare for on a team, I frequently struggle to find the use for a mon that has no useful resistances, relatively low speed, and lackluster bulk. Maybe people impulse add this to teams when they have mons that have Rest, but I think it's usually just better to not run Rest on things. If it means having to run a mon with no good switch ins to keep the moveslot, I would rather just manage the amount of chip on my mon as best as I can.

This guy, however, is super good. Super bulky, great resistances, and arguably better as a seeder because it can circumvent Leech Seed checks with Sleep. Even without clicking Mega you're a great mon. You solo the two most common resistances to it, Alolan Muk and Melmetal, as long as you can hit two Sleep Powders. I run Timid so you can absorb the Sappy Seed from Eevee and be able to immediately pressure the opp. It does the same stupid Leech Seed spam stuff that Eevee does, but with a more powerful team presence. I use this, but I'm sure you could find room for tect if you cared too much about it.

I use this most commonly, but I've used Body Slam, Earthquake (for mega gengar), Self-Destruct, and Toxic too and all work really well. Its primary objective is as a good secondary Zam check, but you obviously check a ton of stuff like Mew, Zapdos, and Cloyster. Don't even run rest on it. Running Rest is just a way of saying "my mon is dead, so let's try and keep it alive so it can give my opponent free turns."

I'm getting bored of typing so I guess that's it lol.

Completely agree on both of these, especially Venusaur being underrated. I’ve been playing with running Sub/LS/EQ/Mega Drain to help it check A-Muk and MGengar since I haven’t found much use for Sludge Bomb and I prefer the consistency of Sub over the risk/reward of Sleep Powder.

Another Question, what do you guys think is the Releasedate for LGPE in the smogon Dex? I am not able to build my own Teams except the ones presented here, since i have no knowledge at all :D :/ Are there some Sites where i can Look these things Up so i dont have to annoy you all, who mostly already have the needed knowledge? :D :/

For the smogon dex, chaos said “soon,” lol. In terms of sites, pokemon showdown should have everything you need. If not, come down to the discord if you have any questions.

Is there any hard counter to Lax?

That was really insightful. What other pokes do you run with those two?
Snorlax doesn't OHKO Mega Zam with anything, so you really want another check. Melmetal should be on every team anyways, so Snorlax + Melmetal is pretty common on a lot of the teams where I run him. In terms of other mons I like to run with Venu, Zapdos and Starmie are pretty common partners I suppose. Zapdos frequently gets to bring in Venu on Ground-types switching in, Starmie can checks Mew, and both check Melmetal to some extent.

EQ sounds cool for Mega Gengar, but you pretty comfortably beat Alolan Muk with Sleep Powder, even if you miss the first time. I think sacrificing Sleep is giving up on the main reason Venusaur is so threatening. I also pretty strongly dislike Substitute in this format on most mons because you already lose health so quickly in this tier. It means you're not keeping the Sub up for long on stuff and you're ditching your health by clicking Sub over and over.

Is there any hard counter to Lax?
For what it's worth, I don't like viewing mons in this tier as having hard counters or not. Everything can lose to pretty much everything else as long as they take the right amount of chip from switching in on attacks, status, and/or stealth rocks. It's part of the reason why lax is so good because what he doesn't 2HKO are usually mons you want to put a lot of pressure on regardless. Like, Melmetal doesn't get 2 hit by Fire Blast, but it takes about 40-50% and can't OHKO despite being faster. That will frequently lead the way for a Mega Zam sweep late game.

I guess in terms of mons that don't get immediately 2 hit and put pressure on Lax, I would say Mew, Zapdos, Melmetal and Nidoqueen are the most relevant I can think of. Nidoqueen gets 3 hit by Surf, but it can Super Fang and Earthquake you down to an HP range where you're easy to pick off. Mew can't Wisp you because it'll activate Facade, but as long as it doesn't get crit or defense dropped by crunch it can chip you down with Psychic. Zapdos has to play games with EQ and I already talked about Melmetal. More often than not, though, I find lax is just a good early to mid game presence that ends up succumbing to chip just like an Alolan Muk, Melmetal, Nidoqueen, or just about any other mon in this tier would. It needs to switch in more frequently than most other mons and relies a lot on being at higher amounts of HP to be as effective as possible.

Need some help building a competitive team. Really new to Pokemon in general; help a newbie out. Currently want to center my team around Mega-Alakazam and Gengar. I also have a Mew and my Partner-Eevee on my team. Mew doing Mew things and Eevee acting as my status remover. Not sure what to add for my last two spots nor am I sure if I should switch Eevee for another Pokemon or not. Can anyone help?

A couple of things I've been using:

Spr_1y_062.png

Poliwrath
Level: 50
Impish Nature
- Superpower
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Hypnosis

I really like HypnoWrath. It catches its switchins off guard (assuming you hit ._.) and gives you free turns to either switch out to an appropriate check/counter or finish something off if it's weakened enough. Poliwrath in general has proven to be a pretty good check to Mega Gyarados and Melmetal as well, which is why I've been using an Impish nature, although I might try a Jolly nature to creep neutral Eevee-Starter.

Spr_1y_125.png

Electabuzz
Level: 50
Hasty Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Low Kick
- Ice Punch / Psychic
- Taunt / Ice Punch / Psychic

Now, this is a mon that I don't think is good enough to be ranked on the VRs, but it's a fun little meme mon that I believe is a lot better than most of the other unranked mons. Its main niche, imo, is its access to Low Kick which allows it to 2HKO Snorlax after Stealth Rock, 2HKO Chansey, and 3HKO Rhydon. Psychic lets it hit Gengar, Venomoth, (Mega) Venusaur and the Nidos for super effective damage, while Ice Punch still hits Venu and the Nidos for SE damage (but nowhere near as much as Psychic) and has a little over 50% chance to 2HKO Zapdos after Stealth Rock while 2HKOing Alolan Exeggutor. In the last slot, Taunt is cool for shutting down fat mons like Mew, Chansey, etc to prevent them from recovering.

The big issues with this mon are that it's extremely frail on the physical side, even if Naive was used instead. Many non-STAB EQs OHKO. It's also not that strong offensively compared to most other OU mons and requires a ton of support from its teammates to enable it to clean up later in the match. As an Electric-type, Zapdos outclasses it by a wide margin with better stats, reliable recovery, and U-turn, but at least Electabuzz here can actually do something to Rhydon on the switch or on a predicted Stealth Rock, and it's at least not weak to Rocks, but even then, Pikachu-Starter has access to Splishy Splash for Rhydon, but by using that, you can't use Eevee-Starter.

I've been having a lot of fun playing LGOU (and more importantly talking about it with trash) lately so I thought I'd share the team I've been using and some general thoughts about the meta. I was able to go 40-3 with this team including a starting 37-1.

3fc0ce68751de1416c7655a82b94b6db.png

This is team I made basically revolving around uturning with zapdos into mgyara and just nuke shit. Initially I thought using a team that doesn't revolve around evolving either zam or aero would be tough to make work just bc of how important that speed tier is, but gyara is so bulky and strong it really does make up for it. I think aero is easily the most viable non-evolved mega, its speed tier is still insanely good and the utility of a lead that can, in a lot of scenarios, guarantee you rocks while also preventing your opponents rock is unbelievable. Drill peck zapdos fits nicely on this team to lure/reliable beat venu, a mon that can be probelmatic. The ability to chip/beat a-duggy in pinch is really nice as well. I really like this muk set as giga drain lets you lure rhydon and check cloyster, while toxic puts mew on a timer. I think a-duggy is probably the best and most versatile ground. At times I feel like doubling up on SR would be nice but probably greedy. Melmetal is broken so why not use it. Twave is nice to hit mew and starmie, which allows gyara to sub up on them. The main issues I think you run into with this team is dealing with an opposing lead melmetal and also rest melmetal + eevee (if that combo is played well I imagine most teams would struggle though).

I feel like most games get determined by early game momentum, getting up hazards first, winning the zapdos u-turn/tbolt guessing game, etc. Simple early game hax can seem insurmountable at times due to how momentum can snowball, which has been the only frustrating part of LGOU. There's still a lot of mons that I'm looking forward to experimenting with such as zard, bro, gengar, kang, starmie and cloyster. A lot of these megas seem like they have really nice roles in the meta but I'm not sure if they'd be able to offset the opportunity cost of not using zam/aero/gyara.

I've been having a lot of fun playing LGOU (and more importantly talking about it with trash) lately so I thought I'd share the team I've been using and some general thoughts about the meta. I was able to go 40-3 with this team including a starting 37-1.

Would you mind pokepasting your team? Thanks for the insight man!

Hey guys,

I'm completely new to the whole Pokémon franchise, just got my hands on LGP. After completing the game I'm looking for some competitive battling, that's how I landed here.

So far I understood that the most common way to battle is Pokémon Showdown!. Do you guys also play the original game on the Switch?

If so I consider Eevee (starter) unbalanced as there is no way to optain it for LGP owners and Pikachu being a lot worse (according to your ratings).

My last question: If a team features a mega version of a mon, does that mean you got the base version of the mon in your team and just evolve it in battle asap?

Thanks in advance! I dig the work you put in the whole thing.

Welcome!

While most of us play on Showdown, to find the people discussing the games and such, you are better of going to Orange Islands subforum.

From my experience playing online on the Switch, it doesn't really matter so much since a lot of people use less 'standard' stuff, but I think it is something to consider if you want to organise a tournament or something.

For the mega question: It depends on if you have multiple possible mega's in a team or not. If you have 1 there is almost no downside to evolve as soon as it's on the field. (except when you try to predict something like an Earthquake with a charizard). If you have 2+ possible mega's, it's best to look at what mega evolution will put in the most work.
Simply said: always instant evolve unless you have 2+ megas

Hey guys not really talking about your format here but I wish to play online battles on thid game with standard rules and I shiny hunted for my shiny mewtwo with timid nature to use it on them. Problem is: I accidentally forget the move recover on him and now he cant learn it anymore. Is there any moveset for mega mewtwo Y without recover?
