(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Kinda weirded out that older games didn't really bother to translate >Fufufufu or Mumumu to be properly laughs in Eng
it's weirder for Kate and Liza in RSE, where they DID translate one laugh correctly, but forgot the other

Like, these are supposed to be the same line too

Wait, those are Japanese terms that were meant to be translated? I always thought they were terms the translators came up with out of nowhere.

"Fufufufu" does sort of bring to mind a chuckling noise, although the image I get is of an old man with a bushy beard rather than a teenager.

When it comes to laughter how often they get translated kind of varies (something like one piece I think keeps them all because everyone has a ridiculous Signature Laugh (TM), i think if you have voice acting you'll probably see it "translated"), but yes fufufu & its ilk are (japanese) laughter onomatopoeia. Though I thought it was meant to be a more nasally laugh? Or something like that

I always took it as an aristocratic forced laugh, they're mockingly laughing at you in a way which seems like laughter but it's obviously them forcing a "chuckling" sound.

It would have been so simple to just use "hehehe" and "hahaha", but well...

For curiosity's sake, the Spanish version does translate both laughs. "Je, je, je" for Tate, and "Ji, ji, ji" for Liza.

That's usually for ohoho. the classic ojousama, exaggerated to various extremes.

Looking around for common consensues, this one seems abotu right
"Fufufu" is actually a pretty common laugh onomatopoeia in Japanese. It's supposed to be read as anything from a chuckle (heh heh heh), a nasal, humming laugh (hm hm hm), to even a girlish giggle, depending on context.

i was thinking of the humming variety but seems like the "chuckle/giggle" (heheh/hehehe) might be more common, judging by how often i see that type.

I decided Yung Dramps DrPumpkinz and Lemingue deserved a proper demonstration of what I meant by better idle animations, or more accurately, animations where Pokémons seem to be at least aware they're in a battle and are in a proper stance.

Instead of say, having a mon like Mega Scizor, and others as seen here:
https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/scizor/
https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/samurott/
https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/delphox/
https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/starmie/

I'd rather have mons that have alert stances like these:
https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/monferno/
https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/garchomp/
https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/gallade/
https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/greninja/

All of these from the same batch of XY-onwards models and from the same game even.

And comparing them to the spinoffs/Orre games would be downright cruel, like Mightyena and Nidoking can attest to.

https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/nidoking/

https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/mightyena/ - Actually passable, but not comparable to the PBR/Orre one.
https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/manectric/

Nidoking, Mightyena, and Manectric don't look that different between the old and new models, and I'm not really really sure what the fuck you want from Starmie.

You've... never played Stadium, have you?

Edit:

Bruh...

Like... There's really no point talking about it if you can't even notice how the two are nothing alike.

It's more different than the other two, but they're still similar. New model is a bit more relaxed, but they're both still doing that sort of "come at me bro" air hug movement with their arms. I certainly wouldn't hold one as clearly or significantly inferior to the other.

The back spinning is cool I guess but the dancing is just weird. Definitely prefer the new model.
Probably a bit of nostalgia, but the new model is basically doing the same "dance" as the Stadium model, just with much more subdued movements and without the spinning back.

Starmie is, nominally, a starfish, but its generally inorganic look, bizarrely high base speed, and implications that it was originally from space are much better communicated by its energetic actions (and attack animations) from the Stadium games. That said, I don't know what its Gen 6+ attack animations are.

I dunno, I think the freaky pokemon having subdued animations kind of adds to its uncanniness.

I really hate the forced level grinding at the endgame in the Sinnoh games.

Like, I get it, it’s the final bosses, it’s supposed to be difficult. But it’s just not fun grinding 10 or so levels to have a slight chance at beating them. And yes, I know difficulty is subjective.

It’s a shame too because Platinum is otherwise a mostly fantastic game. It’s consistently difficult throughout without being too over the top (Fantina notwithstanding). However, one of the worst things a game can do is become a brick wall at the very end: it sours my opinion on the rest of the experience. I hate when HGSS does this and I hate when Platinum does this.

It’s to the point where a friend and I have put out Platinum playthroughs on hold because of how obnoxious the endgame is. Thank goodness they eased up on this from BW1 onward.

Competitive Players Shut The Hell Up About Legendaries "Ruining the Metagame" Challenge.

Pokemon is not literally unplayable just because Landorus exists. Or even Xerneas, as absurd as that thing is going to be with Geomancy + Dynamax.
Maybe VGC is a different story, but anyone who complains that singles is unplayable because of Landorus is not a competitive player.
