Max of 8 should be enough, most hidden power types can be found that low. Then you can never go wrong with steps, as 128 is the only safe number. I prefer max frames of 3 'cause I'm lazy like that :3
Yep, though you might advance more frames with such a high step count, because you may already be on step 127/128, which means that 1280 steps would increase it by 55. I suggest finding a lower frame.
Okay, then it's Target frame - starting frame = advancements, meaning in this example 53-3=50

With enough patience. The PID for the egg is not determined until you collect it, unlike 4th gen. And there's a ton of NPCs on the route all advancing the PID RNG.
And C-Gear isn't so bad. All of my stuff is done through C-Gear abuse.
When the new RNG Reporter comes out, you'll be able to RNG capture/breed anything with non-C-Gear but Entralink mons.
If you can do these this weekend, that would be awesome.
