Data Ask a Simple Question, Get a Simple Answer (ASB Version)

Actually, I think it was recently ruled that mons that aren't sent out do still get counters (except for if you send in 3 mons for a 1v1 or 2v2).

1) What moves can I teach my pokemon with my MC? I know that starting up you choose level-up moves, egg moves and BW TM moves, but can I teach different moves later on? e.g. Gen 4 TM moves and tutor moves?
2) When teaching level-up moves to my pokemon, do I have to teach the lower-levelled moves first? I assume so, but I haven't seen it explicitly stated anywhere.
3) Can you link me to the thread / post where you got this information? I haven't been able to find it anywhere and it would be nice to have a place to refer to.

Thanks!

At Professor Science

You recieve MC through battles, naturally. These MC can be spent on any move that the Pokemon could learn, in any generation. Level-up moves cost 1 MC, and can be bought in any order. Egg moves from any generation cost 3 MC. Tutor moves from the 5th Generation cost 2 MC, and any other Tutor moves cost 3 MC. B/W TMs/HMs cost 2 MC, and other TMs/HMs cost 3 MC. A good database for Pokemon moves would be Veekun.org

(Also, quite a bit of game data can be found here; it should have most of the stuff you need.)

Move Counter (MC):
Each time a Pokemon enters battle, their Move Counter goes up by two. Move Counters are used to add new moves to your Pokemon. Here are the costs associated with Move Counters:

1 MC: Level-Up Moves from any Pokemon at or below the current Evolution stage, Pledge Moves.
2 MC: BW TMs, BW Tutors.
3 MC: Egg Moves, Event Moves, Past Gen TMs, Past Gen Tutors
That, & it is also common knowledge.

Thanks! You're Welcome!

EDIT: Ninja'd... :/

Okay, I have a question about Switch = OK battles. Trainer's A Pokemon was knocked out and he sends in a new Pokemon. Afterwards, Trainer B then initiates switch phase, and then Trainer A counter switches for a new Pokemon and gives out orders. Does both of Trainer A's Pokemon take damage from entry hazards, or only the second one? Thanks. =3

There are Spikes on the field.

-Trainer A sends out Sceptile!
-Trainer B initiates switch phase and sends out Blaziken!
-Trainer A counter switches, brings in Swampert, and sets commands.

So in this example, does both Sceptile and Swampert take Spike damage?

To clarify, any Pokemon that switches in for any reason will take hazard damage if they are vulnerable to the hazard and the hazard is on their side of the field.

So as of the last couple hours, IRC requires you to register your nick. I did it, but now it tells me that typon77 is already registered when I try to log in. How do I enter my password?

EDIT: Actually I'm not even sure if I registered right? Help???

Ok, I am going to eventually register myself here. Before I do that, however, I am trying to get some issues settled.

1). Would I be better off starting with one poke (let's say Snivy in this case) and save my points to unlock Contrary sooner? Or should I get two pokes and have better endurence in battles?

2). Is there a database of possible combination attacks (like that MegaBolt move)?

3). The same as question 2, but concerning arenas.

1. TC are now known as CC.

2. Absolutely wrong. Move combinations are possible at the discretion of the referee, and the Combination Type is there to help determine the type of the combo. See the combinations post in the DAT for more info.

3. Wrong again; somewhere in the data threads on this site exists an arena compendium of well over 100 arenas. I'll link it shortly.

That is not how CT works. CT determines which move's type the combo will be. Combos just have to make sense, and you can ask the ref first to make sure a combo would be accepted. As far as arenas go, you can make your arena anything you want, but here is the arena compendium if you want some inspiration.

EDIT: ninja'd :(

In a herpaderp moment when I deleted the post with 2/3 wrong answers, I forgot that answer to #1 was right, just with the wrong term >.>

The 6 CC you begin with can only be used to buy items and Pokemon. DC (Dream Counters) come from battles, or converting UC (which you gain from reffing battles) to DC, so saving them up to unlock Snivy's Contrary isn't a good move.

Well KS, pretty much what everyone else said but for number 1:

First you will need to choose your starting Pokemon. You have 6 trainer counters to start off with. Each Pokémon has their own stats and rarity value, found here, that you can use trainer counters to buy; rarity listings can be found further down this post as well. All other information can be found in this thread. You do not have to use all of your 6 initial trainer counters, but you must select at least two (2) starting Pokemon. Remaining rarity points can be put in your Trainer Counter stock.

That is straight from the Registration Tower. Unless something has changed, I think you need to pick at least two.

Question of my own now:

If a mon is signed up for an RP like Battle Hall but the challenge has not started, is the mon still considered idle?

Ok, as I said, I am trying to get every detail set in my mind. I am not hopping in this until I have a better understanding.

It is to be expected of someone who has never done this before to be slightly confused.

Thanks for your help. Looks like I need to spend another week reevaluating my plans and relearning what little I know.......*sigh*. This is going to be a long week.

Once again: thanks for correcting me. I shall continue my research.

The mon is still considered idle, but it really isn't worth doing anything with; when the other thing begins, the mon will become un-idle, and you won't be able to start your Hall challenge. TL;DR not wise.

Also, King Serperior, feel free to come on to our IRC channel, #capasb; I guarantee that you'll learn about the game at the speed of light ^_^

Question of my own now:

If a mon is signed up for an RP like Battle Hall but the challenge has not started, is the mon still considered idle?
Yes, until the hall challenge starts. If it partakes in a battle, then the hall challenge is taken after a battle involving the Pokemon in question starts, you are still okay, because...
Battle Tower OP said:
A Trainer may use any Pokemon on their team that is not currently engaged in role-playing. If a Pokemon role-plays after a match has begun, no penalty will be suffered.
