I would assume so, as substitute does not block move's effects from occurring on the user, for example flame charge on a substitute will boost the user's speed. If it breaks the substitute, it will most likely have a chance to cause sleep, and if it does not then it will never cause sleep. I should believe that it will always make it transform, however.

To my knowledge, only Protect/Detect, Ghost-type Pokémon, or Relic Song missing (due to evasion boosts/accuracy drops) block Relic Song's transformation properties, as the attack has to successfully execute.

Substitutes do block the transformation on PS though - I have no idea whether that is intended behaviour but you could probably get a pretty good idea cross-referencing veekun and bulbapedia or w/e.

How come on PO, I created a team, went on the server, battled, and I was using all wrong Pokemon like Roselia, Growlithe, etc. I was playing OU.

you might not have switched the format to OU (the default format on PO is randbats), or you might not have selected your OU team and accidentally been sitting on another one

edit: wait PO facepalm >_> okay i got nothing, i haven't used PO in like 6 months

You may have been put to Challenge Cup by default. Make sure when you log on to PO that you load your team before you start laddering.

Another problem could be that you didn't click Force Same Tier.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but what is the better variation of Volcarona in today's OU Metagame? The bulky Bold variant or the more offensive Modest type?
I'm about to RNG for it in Relic Castle so I want to be careful with my choice.
Thanks!

Timid Volcarona with Hidden Power Ground and a Lum Berry is probably the most destructive set Volcarona can run. With the ubiquity of Heatran, you need some sort of Hidden Power alongside your STABs or you'll be walled hard.

Whatever happened to people making warstories? Seems like it's been months since I've seen one get posted, although I do only check infrequently. Have people just stopped posting them, is there a separate forum for them I seem to be missing, or what?

The best ones were archived and the subforum for them was closed. They just aren't as popular as they used to be, sadly. Anyone is welcome to post one with proper formatting but it just doesn't happen as often any more since there was simply a decline in interest and thus a closing of the section

Ginganinja just posted a rather good Warstory a few days ago.

Also, since the move to PS, it's harder to make one without autosaving logs or the auto-formatting warstory maker.

White symphoni posted here that he has seen offensive versions of Jellicent with Recover, and specs variant. I am curious to know how these offensive versions work, and on wich teams they would work, because as far as I know the only offensive variant of Jellicent that exists is Specs, and as far as I know this variant is only used on rain teams.

I remember an RMT with a Trick Room Water Gem Jellicent

What is the general rule of thumb (if there is one) when it comes to building Offensive/HO teams?
For example there is an article in The Smog that gives you a brief outline of what the tried and true core of a defensive team should be - one specially defensive steel/one physically defensive steel; address the fighting weakness; have a bulky water. Of course these can loosely change but the idea is that there is a general concept that goes around building a defensive core.

SO my question is, is there one for offensive cores or teams in general?

For HO teams, a general skeleton could be: 1-2 pokes that will support the team, and 4-5 sweepers to destroy the opposition. The following moves are very valuable on your supports: Stealth Rock (which is the only mandatory move), Spikes, Dual Screens, fast Taunt to prevent opposition set-up, Tailwind, moves that can harm opposing switch-ins or Spinners (HP Fire / Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Explosion, Memento, etc) Deoxys-D, Mew, Azelf, Aerodactyl are examples of good "supporting" pokes. For the sweepers, it's a good idea (but not mandatory) to stack physical or special sweepers, maybe with one exception, to make dedicated walls crumble easier. Physical tend to work better in my experience: that Skarmory can't absorb your attacks forever, while Blissey and Chansey tend to do so much better. Also, make sure that you aren't single handedly stopped by some wall, or swept by something else. Having checks for the main threats in the meta, even shaky ones, is a great idea. I love running Scarf Latios in such teams, that's just an example, but it checks many annoying things that could otherwise be dangerous. Also, priority is a huge help (I always run two or more in HO teams), thus pokes like Breloom, Scizor, Lucario and Mamoswine are great candidates.

Weather HO teams or just offensive ones are harder to define and to give a template that works while building them. You should be flexible and try a couple of options yourself to get an idea of what works / what doesn't in the team you're trying to build.

In what order do the various damage modifiers (STAB, super effective or not very effective hits, crits, abilities like Huge Power, etc.) get calculated?

Abilities (Huge Power, Flare Boost, Defeatist, etc.) and stat boosts affect stats directly. They themselves are not part of the damage calculation.

Pretty much everything else is a multiplier; therefore, the order doesn't matter.

(Someone feel free to prove me wrong...)

Full details are here. It only really matters if you're writing a precise damage calculator though (because of rounding), for estimation purposes you can apply them in any order and you'll get essentially the same result.

I have a question on tutoring that i cant find the answer for.

Alright I'm trying to figure out how to get a tutor, but I need help figuring out the dates and or when the possibility to get a tutor is available.
