I want to build my first team and I am not sure of how to go about it. I was thinking a electric team but then i saw how little multi type and earthquake would destroy it probably.

My real question how should i go about creating a new team. What ways should I base my team around a Pokemon type and weather effecting. What are ways to start and think about a team. What should I take into account when building a team.

I am sorry if i misspelled any words or worded it Strangely. Feel free to tell me something that i did wrong or ask a question about my question.

Building a team doesn't take very long, but you will end up testing out the team over 1000 battles on shoddy and change up movesets, evs, and pokemon.

Try starting with a few standards like lead aerodactyl, some walls, and checks to the major threats in the game, and a sweeper or two, and just paly test, play test, play test.

Very few teams have themes, but what they do is work well with one another by counterparting each other. You might have heard of something called Skarmbliss or Blisskarm. It is when both Skarmory and Blissey are used on a team, both together can wall attacks very well (Skarmory for Physical attacks and Blissey for Special attacks). So make sure all your Pokemon can protect the others from weaknesses they might have. And a mono-Electric team is probably the worst mono-type team ever because of the lack of multi-typed Pokemon and the weakness to Ground.

if you want a mono type team Ive found poison to be one of the best. because of the various multi-typed Pokemon they have and the various types of Pokemon (walls/sweepers).

but you could however just use 6 Pokemon from all the types.

edit; whats working better in today's metagame bold or calm zapdos?

To those that have actually used it:

how well does the Bulky Arcanine set work in OU? just curious, its not a bad moveset. Also does it actually stand a chance against Gyarados?

If it has thunder fang, it doesn't get STAB, but it's worth a shot, since Aracnine can probably outspeed Gyrados.

your best bet is to WOW on the switch to gara and then switch to a counter. other then that no chance against it.

should i send over my regis and other good ived pokemon to plat. and use the plat. tutors instead of the emerald ones?

There's several tutors that aren't available in Platinum, be sure to see if there's any 'must haves' or not-so-common moves you want. Here's the tutor list for Registeel, Regice, and Regirock, dunno what other pokemon you have but just plug their name into the URL to get their list.

Or you can clone them using the Emerald Cloning Glitch, sending one set to Platinum and keeping the other set in Emerald in case you need them/want Emerald tutors.

Can you synch Cresselia when RNGing?

I think you can but seeing as it's an unusual encounter, you might not be able to. I'm not screwing up if I manage to hit the seed, though. And hitting the seed is so hard.

Edit: the only worthwhile 3rd gen move tutor for regis is seismic toss for Regice, which is what I did with my shiny one. Body slam too... but it's not that good.

Here's a strange one.

Let's say I have one of my opponents team members asleep already, and none of my Pokemon are asleep. They use Spore on me, but I use Magic Coat and reflect it back. Will they go to sleep, or will the move fail?

Most likely the wrong section, but an answer would still be appreciated.

Has #stark and, for that matter, #smogon become servers avaiolable only if you register? I am greeted with a message that says only registered nicknames are allowed whenever I attemp to log in.

EDIT: Assuming you're in the games (as Doubles isn't available on Shoddy), the move will work, as there is no sleep clause in the actual Pokemon games.

This can be done in singles:

Breloom chooses Spore and Kecleon chooses Magic Coat.

Kecleon uses Magic Coat to try to make Breloom asleep. Does it fail because of Sleep Clause or not?

thanks guys! ill just send them over then because there are better options for regiice.

another question. im getting a zapdos in my FR what nature is working better now? bold or calm?

Depends if you want physically, or specially defensive Dos.
