Ask a simple question, get a simple answer - mark 24 (READ THE OP)

Does editing a Pokemon's IVs through PokeSav, an R4, or Action Replay affect the Pokemon in any negative ways? I heard something about a "Personality Value" being altered, but I have no idea. Any help?

Adding on to the above: there are hack checks at these, and if the Pokemon are not possible or well done, they will show up. However, if they are done well, they can slip under the radar and still be used. It basically depends on how you do them and how good you are at it.

Hello,

Here you got a few questions :

- If I use an action replay in order to create items (held items or TMs), is that legit for tournaments, etc. ?
It depends. Nintendo Tournaments don't allow it, but legal hacks aare generally allowed on wifi tournaments. Ask the director.
- Do Exp.Share and/or Lucky Eggs have any impact on leveling if held by a pokemon left at the pension ?
They only have an impact if they are in your party at the time. To clarify, only the exp. share works in your party. Lucky Egg works for pokemon that have fought in the battle only.
- How does the game measure the time for berry growing ? I have noticed that changing the time of the DS doesn't seem to have any impact on the berries.
I'm fairly sure that it is DS time, although you'd have to look that up. - What's the fastest leveling spot for Pokemon SS ? And for Platine ?
SS: Probably the Elite Four
Platinum: Probably the Elite Four again, or maybe up around Stark Mountain.

Thank you :)

Quick question about the mechanics behind White Herb. Curious about If the stat needs to get into negative and if it actives when baton passed.

Scenario 1: Scizor with White Herb used swords dance, opponent switched into Gyarados with intimidate. This would leave my Scizor on +1 or does the White herb activate in order to keep the +2?

Scenario 2 Garados Switches into Scizor and Intimidates it down to -1. Scizor Used baton pass to Smergle with White Herb. Does White herb active to restore status up to normal?

Scenario 3 Scizor Without White Herb used swords dance, opponent switches into Gyarados with intimidate. Scizor uses baton pass to Smergle with White Herb. Does Smergle now realise that its stats have been lowered once and active Its White Herb to get to the +2 or stay on Its passed +1?

Looking at this, in Scenarios One and Two, the drop will be negated, but in Three it will not. It cancels any drop, which explains One, and if tricked onto something, it restores a previous drop, which explains Two. For Three, the drop is not recorded, and is recorded only as +1, so White Herb will not activate.

If you have an EV distribution that is not divisible by 10 (60, 70, 80, etc.) and you use a stat reducing berry, does it lower your EVs to the divisible number, or just exactly by -10

for example: if you have 64 EVs and use a berry, does it lower it to 60 or 54?

Yea, it seems to still be down, is there another server or something, or is my computer just messing up?

I don't think your computer is messing up, because it won't connect for me either. =(

Any further info on how long it's expected to be down for would be totally rad, if possible?

54, unless you are on 110+, in which case it goes straight to 100.

When counting frame advancement, do NPCs that change the direction they are facing without taking a step count? Bebe, for example?

My friends and I have been unable to access it due to an error that says "connection refused". I read somewhere on this site that the mentioned error means the server is down; just wait a bit longer.

On the subject of sb2 what happened to the thread on smogon? Also sorry for being impatient but when will cre rankings be visible?

Quick noob Q about breeding..
If I breed my male pokemon with a ditto is it still possible to get egg moves available to the pokemon??
Example: I want agility for my empoleon
I'm noob to this stuff

No.

You must have the female Pokemon you want to breed the move onto (in this case, Empoleon) and a male Pokemon with that move in the same egg group (Water 1 or Ground). Common Pokemon that can learn Agility and breed with Empoleon include Pikachu, Ponyta, Aipom, Girafarig and Sneasel. Hope this helps!

May be a stupid question but,

I was reading the damage calculation formula on smogon found at http://www.smogon.com/dp/articles/damage_formula#mod1 and on it with some various other facts states that the SpAtk/Atk used to calculate damage is itself calculated by : Stat(Atk/Spatk) x Item modifier x ability modifier x statups.

That itself I'm fine with.

What I dont understand is where the EV modified stats come into play to determine damage. i.e. the numbers that when looking at the DPP strategy pokedex are in the table with headers (-min, min, max. max+). Not the numbers in the bars.

Is the stat I'm talking about in fact the stat used to calculate SpAtk/Atk and not the numbers in the bars I mistook them for, or are they the numbers in the bars with the EV modified attack and Spatk stats used elsewhere that I over read?

Thanks in advance

Apparently, the server became overloaded, and so parts were taken down. They will be visible when the developers get around to it, and currently there is no timetable.

Each Pokemon has a base stat for each stat, such as a Caterpie, which has base 20 attack or something. This is used to calculate the actual stat it has at a given level, with given EVs/IVs/Nature. The overall stat, which is displayed in-game and has no obvious resemblance to the base stat, is used to calculate damage and such. The columns in the analyses show what various stats can be for a Pokemon, given a positive nature, neutral nature and 252 EVs, neutral nature and 0 EVs, and negative nature with 0 EVs. For a more comprehensive explaination, I'd look here

Is a pokemon with 375/250/250 hp/def/spdef 'bulkier (i.e. generally can take more hits) than the same typing but with 280/360/360?

(Basically, If I could choose between 100hp points or 100def+spd points for a pokemon with already generally good def stats (for UU) which would be better?)

No. Generally, 'bulkiness' can be approximated by Def*Hp, so the second option is better for both defences. In general, try to make the stats equal in order to maximise bulkiness for a given number of EVs.

So if I use a ditto to breed what gender will the offspring be?

Would this be a good alternative for D.D Dragonite?

Dragonite
Leftovers/Lum Berry
252 Speed, 252 Attack, 4 defense
-Dragon Dance
-Outrage/Dragon Claw
-Fire Punch
-Roost/Earthquake
