It is. For regionals, it's just 4v4 one match. You bring 6 pokemon, but you can only pick 4 to use.

Once you get into the later rounds of nationals and worlds though, it turns into best of 3.

So for regionals since its 4 v 4 do you get to look at your opponents team beforehand and does it have to be preset in a regular order?

At the moment, we don't know whether or not you will be able to see your opponent's team because Black/White is a little bit different. We're leaning towards being able to see it though. And you can change your 4 in any way you like in between the battle so long as you use the same 6 you registered with.

I have a noob question about the way the vgcs work. I've heard of qualifiers and lcqs, when and where are those? Thanks.

Assuming you're in the US: Qualifiers are for x # of weeks throughout the summer - there's been 6 the past two years, starting in May; I believe European qualifiers are similar to the US. At Nats/Worlds, there's also an LCQ for people who didn't get in/couldn't get in at Regionals/Nats. If you qualify at either of those, you have a spot.

Can you not get a spot otherwise, or is it just harder? And are the qualifiers the same spot as the actual tornement? One last question (or set of questions actually): when are the regionals? I heard nationals were July 8-11, I guess regionals are before that? And are regionals the same place as nationals? Thanks.

Regional locations have not been released yet and definitely won't be released until Black and White come out in the US. The Qualifiers/Regionals are in different major cities throughout the United States and will be held consecutive weekends in May and June. Nationals are in Indianapolis on July 8-10. If you want to play in Nationals, you need to place high enough at a regional tournament (last year you needed to be top 16) or place high enough at the Last Chance Qualifier (essentially a regional at/before Nationals- you needed to get top 16 here, too).

As for whether regionals or the LCQs are harder, hard to say. Both depend on who didn't qualify, and how much $ they're willing to spend.

Thanks for all these answers, I really appreciate them. I have one more (hopefully): by money you mean hotels and travel not entry right?I heard there was no entry fee, but I have to ask because my parents are concerned with money. Thanks.

Edit already thought of another -.-": for regionals, do you have to be there for a week, day, the whole thing, ect?

Seeing how you mentioned parents, I think that qualifies me to answer. The only money you will spend is on travel/hotel. Unless TPCi changes, there's no entry fee. Never has been one. For regionals, I'll just give you my experience. I went to the Dallas qualifier this year. I live ~8hrs from Dallas. I left the day before the regional (Friday). Got there, stayed the night. (We didn't have to pay for hotels because we have family in Dallas) The next day, we got up and went to the event. For seniors it was over around 6ish. (PM) Personally I left at around 5, because we were eating with family, and I had been eliminated. (I got Top 16) We stayed the next day and hung out (with family), but we could've left the next day. Sorry for the paragraph, but hopefully this helps.

Yes it helped a lot, thanks! Sub in Newark NJ for Dallas, and that's pretty much what I'll do (fingers crossed to qualifiy as well!).

Hey, where can one learn how to play VGC and then (actually) play it? Because I've been on smogon since July and I barely see any discussion about it.

A lot of Smogon's VGC discussion is done on IRC- you can try the channels #smogonwifi and #vgc for starters. =)

There will be a lot more discussion as it gets closer to the time for the events. The metagame will change a lot between now and tournament time.

So I got a question about items. Sixonesix said in one of the comments of the analyses that Items cannot be transferred from Gen 4 to Gen 5. I suspect TPCi will take care of that with the rule "Only Items to be found in Isshu are eligible for tournament play" but anyway, do we have a list of some sort which Items exist in the game without any external help? I mean, it'd be broken if the anti-berries are banned while they allow the jewels lol

You can get the type-resist berries through the Dream World. I'm sure you can get a few off someone here.

I know that raising your attack makes you hurt yourself more in confusion, but does raising your defense make you hurt yourself less?

I wish to create a team for this tournament after years of doing simulators. What are the IV requirements to make even a chance to get far, or even win this, or other big metagame matches?

Ideally - 31's in HP, both defenses, and attacks you will be using.
But, of course, there are sacrifices often have to be made. IV's 25+ in the above stats are still good.

EV's do more for stats than IV's so proper EV usage is key.

As for "Getting far" - Having sub-par pokemon with a good strategy and good prediction will do better than "Prefect" stats.

This thread is proof. This user got top 8 in dallas with a Solrock/Hippodon team: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2703388

Though, I see that it's much like our Uber metagame, is that correct? I don't even have did double battles before. Someone maybe have a guide of VGC, like a "this are the rules and the playstyle of the VGC, VGC for dummies"?

2011 and 2009 didn't use ubers, but 2010 did, so it really just depends on the rules for the year. As for VGC guides, you can find them on other sites (that I can't mention.) Something like this may help a bit though.

If I have Zuruzukin out on the field with the ability Shed Skin (so 1/3 of healing status) and is partnered with Mamanbou who carries the ability Healing Heart (1/3 chance of healing your partner's status condition)... what are the chances of Zuruzukin's status being healed on any given turn?
