A random one, it can't copy Illusion so if you saw your opponent had a Zoroark you might know whether they led with it or not.

Not quite, since I believe Trace will always target the non-Zoroark Pokemon. I suppose it will tell you that one of the Pokemon is guaranteed not to be Zoroark, but it doesn't rule out the other one.

Any good counters to Rotom-Metagross/Garchomp and Thunderus-Garchomp? Those two really seem to be quite threatening this year, and I don't run either so I figure I should have some sort of counter.

Metagross @ Occa Berry Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Protect
- Bullet Punch
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
This is my metagross, It needs rock slide to beat Zapdos. What would be the best move to replace with Rock slide if my team member is Rotom-W.

I know the format for VGC's is swiss - but is there a limit of how many people can participate? The last couple of VGC's there has always been a limit of how many people they can accomodate. And since the competitions are being held in the morning, does this mean I need to worry about going super super early or is there no point if there is no limit? Thanks.

512, i prefer to get there around 6:30 but last year it didn't fill up.

Edit:

1024 for seniors, 512 for juniors/seniors

I think you mean 1024 for Masters. We will all be in Masters I believe. Not sure if others from TKO are going but mostly they'd be seniors. Don't think we have juniors for the video game, we do for the card game. We arrived early for the Atlanta VGC's last year but it did not fill up then either. Thank you, appreciate it!

There are still juniors for the VGC, and TKO?

And
Masters 1024 Spots/ Dallas masters filled up last year
Seniors 512 Spots/ Dallas seniors iirc had around 400 people, didn't fill up
Juniors 512 Spots/ Dallas Juniors idk

I'm getting mixed up now too. I posted in the Athens, GA VGC thread to say that I am attending in the Masters ranking with other members of Pokemon Team KO, and then I posted a link to the groups blog. We probably will have around a dozen or so Masters participating - including myself (masters, not seniors - that's where I got mixed up in my prevous post). I don't think we have any Junior aged participants from our group - which I abbreveate to TKO. Hope that clears things up. Getting up early won't be a problem for me but I know other people in the group will be harder to get moving.

Replace EQ. It lacks of real power most of the time, though the synergy with Rotom-W is kind of neat. Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash are both great moves, Meteor Mash because otherwise Latios will mess with both your guys hard, and Bullet Punch because (I assume your) Metagross and Rotom-W to be somewhat slow. On another note, Zapdos isn't all that afraid of Rock Slide, even that then Hydro Pump a Tailwind variant could probably survive.

Can anyone outline the pros and cons of Dragonite and Garchomp, and in which situations and partners they work well? I can't decide.

Also, just re-asking my old question since no one answered: Any good counters to Rotom-Metagross/Garchomp/Mamoswine and Thunderus-Garchomp/Mamoswine? Those two really seem to be quite threatening this year, and I don't run either so I figure I should have some sort of counter.

Use them on a battle simulator like Pokemon Online or on random Double Battles on WiFi. And if you know what Pokemon you need to beat, you really should be able to figure out what would be effective based on their types and our analyses. exactly how common is gyarados? after reading some RMT threads i've noticed some people are taking precautions against it/are being recommended counters for it, but i have yet to see anyone use one on PO or hear of anyone using one in the VGC so far.

the last time i saw gyara in VGC was my first year of competitive and i killed it pretty quickly.

is it worth it to worry about it?

Gyrados is very popular with the Japanese. Doesn't seem to be as popular in the west, but regionals are a toss-up.

Worlds should have an LCQ again yes.

OK :(
Thanks I guess....
(I just saw other questions like that before, so I assumed.)

Gyrados isn't too common, but can really hurt to lack a counter for. Zapdoes gets him nice and good, but aside from that Gyrados can be hard to OHKO or even 2HKO after its Intimidate takes effect. Gyra's coverage is a little lacking, but has access to support moves like Taunt and Thunder Wave. A really creative person could even use a Special one, they have Thunderbolt and the other elementals.... then Bounce.

umm... Special Gyarados?

hmmm, thanks guys.

probably gonna do some damage calcs to see if i can at least 2HKO with what i have or at least cripple it. i don't really think i can sub in zapdos for anything i have right now and i'd rather not, but we'll see.

When you use a multi-target move like Earthquake and only one of the opposing targets is affected by the attack or uses Protect, does the move have 75% or full power? (e.g. You use Earthquake while the opponent has Zapdos and Metagross, or an opposing Tyranitar uses Protect while you Earthquake the Tyranitar and an Excadrill.)

As long as there are more than two pokemon on the field as a whole, (i.e. more than just your one and your opponent's one) spread moves will hit for 75%.
