Ganondorf will be in (not confirmed yet, but we all know...), i think it will be one of these hidden characters you will see until the game is out, or one of the last updates.
I certainly hope there are more villains.

I think the mere fact that you're mentioning them as unfit for the game is overvalidating their existence in the first place. I mean, who the hell is Birdo or Kamek? And I didn't even know the piranha plant was called Petey until now.
Birdo, believe it or not, is a villain (for those that doesn't know it...), so that would make it slightly appealing for me, out of that i really don't want to see it playable, and i think it won't be anyway... as well as most of the list of that above poster, because these were made just to fill in space for Mario party, soccer, or whatever the fuck Mario games. They aren't iconic.
Actually, piranha plants are regular staples in the Mario series. Petey Piranha is a minor boss character based off of a pirahna plant.
Honestly... Lots of people can have different opinions on different characters but it doesn't end up meaning anything. If you want to say that you think a character will be in brawl, give reasons.... and if you don't think a certain guy will make it, give reasons as well. How obscure or well known a character is kind of debatable, but how important a character is to a series or the fanbase can be better defined.
I'll give my stance on Petey Piranha...
Petey Piranha is somewhat important to the Mario series. He doesn't exactly rank as high as Yoshi, but certainly higher than King Bob-omb. I think this is mainly because he is a much newer character. He has appeared in many games and has become pretty recognizable to the Nintendo fans, becoming one of the recurring characters in the Mario Sports games, usually being one of the last unlocked. He is a boss in many of the handheld games and of course in his first appearance, Super Mario Sunshine. He has not been very well developed and it is mostly a mystery as to what his motives are and what exactly he is. He can fly, create whirlwinds, shoot gunk, and spawn piranha plants in various ways.
I don't think many care if Petey makes it or not. However some Mario fans, usually older ones, dislike him and don't think he should or will be in brawl. Honestly though, Petey has plenty going for him: For one, he has appeared in a cutscene. That alone is more than most would-be discussion topics can say. He also can perform aerially (he flies), and is a villain. All of that combined and you have a character that seems pretty likely.
Still, in the cutscene he appears in, he seems much too large to be playable. Not to mention that Petey doesn't exactly have a big or even existent fanbase, at least not in America. For all I know he could be a very popular Mario character in Japan.
With all of this in mind, and the knowledge that Sakurai doesn't care how new a character is, is willing to adjust a character's size, can give a moveset to anything, and has even given Delfino Plaza as one of the levels, there isn't really a reason to say that Petey is unlikely.

Yay Diddy Kong! It looks like he'll be one of the faster characters, and Sakurai says his moves are awesome! I cant wait to try him out, I bet he'll be more fun then donkey Kong
Well said. I don't mind Petey at all, but if he is in fact a playable character it hurts to think that someone better could have made the roster.
I'm personally hoping for Mega Man X.
I like the idea of Petey being in the game simply because it makes the appearance of Bowser Jr. that much less likely.

Oh thats way too harsh, while I would rather not see them in Brawl, I think they are perfectly fine characters. The babies are only in Yoshi's Island
(where they play a big part of the game), Daisy was an old princess you had to rescue shes been around forever, Kamek is a bad ass character and played a decent role in Yoshi's Island, and hell Petey is derived from the old pirahna. They all played decent roles in their respective games and haven't really showed up outside of those games except to fill the roster in sports games. I really doubt any of these will be playable but they are perfectly fine characters.

Mmmmm, firebreathing winged super Yoshi. Pure awesome.
Awesome, a throwback to Super Mario World (my favorite game), Yoshi looks like he grabbed a multicolored shell which gives him the ability of all the Yoshi forms, Blue-Wings, Red-Fireballs, Yellow-Ground stomping, maybe we will get ground stomping in this FS. This is by far my favorite Final Smash, because of the throwback to SMW and because he looks really awesome. Dig the music, and looks like Sakurai is making up for yesterday.
Umm interesting, Yoshi's final smash seems like a combination of the red and blue yoshies from super Mario world (fly+ fire).
Animal crossing has it's own stage, song and icon, could there be a playable character of the franchise?.

Yay for Yoshi! Yoshi was my favorite character in SSBM, especially when vsing my 'not as skilled' friends. His final smash looks quite awesome, flying around and spitting out fireballs and all :D
But I wonder if he'll (it'll?) get the awesome Egg Roll like he did in SSBM, that was fun.
