DSi. What do you think?

I, like others, am not going to get a DSi anytime soon. The lack of a GBA port is what kills the DSi for me, considering that there are still tons of high quality GBA games that I have not played. Drill Dozer, Final Fantasy ports, Castlevania games, etc.

Ironically, the one good news I see out of this is that it might make the DS lite's price to drop. My own DS lite is literally cracked open so I'll be waiting.

They wasted money on this crap thing. Region lock is the worst of them all in my opinion since most of my games are from USA, and i live in the Netherlands (Europe). Also, no GBA slot means no PalPark pokemanz which is kinda sucky. I just got a new DS lite and i'll stick with that. And damn low battery, this thing is really wasted money...

Would it be possible to sell old GBA games on the store, or would they take up to much space to be offered on the DSi store? I mean, the DSi only has 256 MB IIRC.

At this point in time, I do not believe anyone could give you an answer. We will just have to sit and wait...

Now let's all sit back and wait for the DSi Pokemon game to bring in another flood of new users.

On a different note, I'm undecided for the DSi. I'm going to wait until the DSi has some good games in its library.

Nintendo would never release a DSi-exclusive Pokemon game. Nintendo makes money by selling games, not systems, and releasing a game that is exclusive to the DSi ensures that it will sell only to a very limited audience. They might sell a Pokemon app for DSi owners, but they'd never release a standalone DPP sequel.

I don't really care for GBA or piracy issues. But the region lock completely ruins it for me. Definitely not getting.

I don't like waiting 6 months for a game I want to come out just because Australia sucks. I import pretty much all my games.

Whoops. Thought for some reason this was going to be nintendo's next portable console with its own games. My bad.

Region lock is not on DS game carts, only on the online store. You can't buy Japanese apps from the online store on a North American DSi; the North American DSi will only connect you to the North American app store. However, a North American DSi will still play Japanese DS cards, so you'll still be able to play Jump Ultimate Stars and Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan.

You might want to know that most of the time, Australia gets the same version of the game that the USA does, just at a later date. The only real region differences in the western world are "Europe" and "non-European countries." There are some games like Pokemon where different European countries will get different versions in different languages, but by and large things simply come in two different formats, one for Europe and another one for the rest of the western world.

The fact that this might drop the DS lite price a lot is making me rethink getting one. I like my DS and the $180 price tag is pretty steep. $70 cheaper than a Wii?? Anyways, there's not too much to write home about on this at this point. Maybe they'll surprise us. I'm guessing not though. It's Nintendo after all.

Also, I love your Avatar Kikuichimonji!

I doubt it, it seems like Nintendo's trying to phase out GBA games just like the Micro couldn't play GBC games, etc.

Of all the hardware revisions Nintendo's done this one has both the most amount of new features and the most useless ones - the DS is too big to be a good portable music player and 3MP is by today's standards pretty bad. Plus an even lower battery life? No thanks.

Looks like I was mistaken. There will be DSi-only carts where the game will only work on DSi. There will also be DSi-enhanced carts which will play on DS but will have additional features on DSi.

Basically, DSi is to DS Lite and DS as Game Boy Color was to Game Boy Pocket and Game Boy.

From looking at it so far, I'm considering getting it since my DS is starting to give out a bit (battery's dying and I don't think the touch screen's working properly anymore), my phone doesn't get Internet, and I've still got my GBA and SP to play GBA games, but I still don't know. I'll have to wait and see. Maybe for Christmas.

I might get this in 2010 for yugioh world championship 2010, because it will probably have downloadable content. I hope the next pokemon game has downloadable event pokemon.

This is just dumb. This is a fucking video game system, and they took away one of its key video game playing components (GBA slot) to make room for a gimmick camera. The damn system's most popular game series, Pokemon D/P/P, has many features that require a GBA cartridge to be plugged in. Good job Nintendo.

I remember when Nintendo took out the headphone jack from the GBA SP. They have some dumb-ass designers, I swear to god.

The main reason I'm not getting a DSi is because there aren't any games on it I'd want to play. Like at least when the DS was first released, there was Super Mario 64 DS (which I enjoyed because I never had an N64) and promise of a 3D Metroid on the way. From what I've seen, there isn't anything worthwhile for DSi at launch, so if I got it...what would I use it for?

Now if/when they release a new Pokemon game, or another Mario, or Zelda, or Metroid game (when they find a new studio), I'd go ahead and buy it. My DS lite can take care of my homebrew needs while they figure out how to hack the DSi.

People need to get over the whole GBA-less thing lol

Honestly, something makes me thing half of you barely used the GBA slot at all anyway. You don't have to throw away your old DS or trade it in, you realize? You can still use your GBA if you so wish. If you are so pressed on transferring pokes from RSEFRLG to DPP then just use your older DS model, or hey!

Don't get a DSi! Simple, right? I can't wait until people begin complaining about DSi only games.

Yeah Wishy, fuck legitimate complaints!! Clearly we are all merely whiny brats who cannot appreciate the good gifts granted to us by the world! The DS Lite is a system that should not exist - when you reduce usability and (which the GBA slot being taken away and the lower battery life very much do), then you have to be providing something incredible to make up for this degeneration. A truly shitty camera does not make up for this, and then DSi exclusive games are another negative.

It has a camera, an internet connection, and is slightly bigger, and can't play GBA games...

No. The bad points don't make up for the good. If I have a Wi-Fi access point there is ALWAYS a computer around and you can't argue it's easier to use your DSi to go on the internet rather than go on the computer :O

As for the camera, just get a phone or PSP. Or a CAMERA :P

No GBA slot is the main killer for me,I don't care if you can use DSi points to get them, they won't have everything.

Low battery life also if quite a large hurter, I was already not too pleased with the DS's battery life compared to my GBA but the changes were more than good enough. But it isn't worth it.

The wider screen probably isn't too noticable.
