Probably going to Northeastern University next year in Boston, MA.
Does anyone in the work force have any comments about the school's reputation and its co-op (internship) program? Just wondering if people have good or bad things to say about the school in general or if it's a generally unknown.
EDIT: I plan to be a mechanical engineer.
No one?
Also, I don't know anyone who does extracurriculars just to do extracurriculars. I'm 3rd in my class of 800+, I do well in track, and am a member of a few clubs that I go to when I have time for (JLU, which is "Just Like Us" for helping special ed. kids, Philosophy Club, and Strategic Games Club) I also volunteer at my church, though I would not necessarily call myself overly-religious, and work at a Rec program.
I've never done any of that "for college" and no one that I work with does it "for college". I didn't apply to an Ivy, I didn't want to. I didn't do all those things to increase my chances for getting into an Ivy. All of you are seriously over-exaggerating how many kids only join clubs to scribble the club on an application.
You're also missing the point of clubs and extracurriculars to college admissions.
It's not to weed out the intraverts. In fact, many of the kids who ARE involved in clubs are intraverts. It's to find kids who are involved in constructive, social, community settings. Constructive being the key word. Constructive, or beneficial, or accepted as worthwhile to the general community.
At least by their terms. I'm not here to say their terms are correct, just saying that they have a set standard they want to find and club involvement tends to be conducive to meeting that standard, which is not necessarily a social person.
