Good TV Shows Thread

dm i kinda agree with you on the walking dead. the first season (especially the pilot) was really good, but season 2 is really stagnating at the farm. i have hopes for it though, and i'm gonna keep watching.

eagerly awaiting the next seasons of game of thrones and breaking bad.

and i can't really post in a tv shows thread without mentioning twin peaks.

Big Bang Theory is terrible. It's a hyperbole of a hyperbole of "nerd-dom". Everything is so retarded. I'm a p. nerdy guy and I would even be embarrassed if one of my friends said a single line like Sheldon ever said. It's a smart show for dumb people, in other words.

Reading though this thread, I couldn't see anyone recommending House M.D.

If so, shame on you all.

Seconded. All the way.

Doctor Who
I can agree with this, although it should be noted that the 'modern' series are already up in 6 seasons, so there's a lot to plow through.

Arrested Development is coming back for a 4th season, so watching the first three will be a good idea. It's one of the best shows ever.
I should get on this boat. Everyone who've seen it praise it.

Does it count if you watch it on your computer?

Parks and Recreation. Amy Poehler is fucking hilarious. I'd fuck her like her like Id fuck Jan Hooks. Aubrey Plaza can get it too. Rashida Nichols, not so much. I dont like chicks with thin hair ~_~

30 Rock is also one of my favorites. Alec Baldwin is a g.

Game of Thrones DUH!

How I Met Your Mother because Im a helpless romantic like Ted and Jason Segel is a beefcake ~_~

~_~

Well if we are mentioning old shows, then the Sopranos is probably the best thing ever created by anyone. There is just no way I can convey how hilarious it is.

Also you may have seen this before, but seasons 2-9ish of the simpsons are pretty good.

My favorite TV show is One Tree Hill. Can't get enough of that Sophia Bush. I was also a big Lost fan when it was on.

Besides that, I usually watch a lot of old shows like Cheers, Bob Newhart, All In The Family, Dick Van Dyke, Married With Children, ect.

I'm going to get back into 30Rock, because that show was hilarious. I guess I should be watching It's Always Sunny, since everyone seems to love it. I hear Dexter is good, might get into that. I tried to watch what's it called, the one with Malcom in the Middle's Dad... The dude who makes meth for his family or something... Wait, Breaking Bad! I tried watching that but it was toooooo gruesome

Agreed. Besides the fact that the show tries to elicit "laughs" from absurd conversations meant to go over the audience's head, (If it doesn't, the "humor" is in trouble) I hate that every joke is either
a) Character's are arguing about something trivial or how another isn't as smart as them.
b) Character does/says something "nerdy" that elicits awkward silence/staring
c) Sheldon is an OCD-driven asshole.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one that hates The Big Bang Theory. Show is just not good, I don't understand why it wins stuff...

Might as well bandwagon The Big Bang Theory. If you have decent background in nerd/geek culture it's excellent, an there are enough jokes through the situations that it doesn't exclude the other crowd.

i'm sorry, but this is not true. the show frequently makes geek references but then immediately explains them to the the audience (ostensibly, usually to penny), all while abusing the fuck out of a laugh track. the show is good at making ordinary people feel like they're being clever by getting all these references. if you're actually a geeky person, the big bang theory is nonstop cringing.

futurama is slightly guilty of doing the same thing, but it manages to be funny (and importantly, does so without the used of canned ya-yas).

i also really liked buffy the vampire slayer and breaking bad, both of which have been extensively mentioned in this thread. there seems to be one show not getting nearly enough love:

I'm not much of a TV watcher anymore, what with Youtube, Blip, and a few people from That Guy with the Glasses. But here's what I DO watch on TV (that still runs new episodes) and enjoy:
Adventure Time
Futurama
The Daily Show
The Colbert Report
The Office (US version) (I'm actually only on Season 4 right now, but it's been funny.)
South Park
Robot Chicken
Whatever might catch my interest on the Funimation Channel

I've heard good things about The Walking Dead, but I haven't watched a full episode yet.

King of the Hill was... okay. It can be pretty funny at times, but it does irk me that 99% of the time, Hank is the one who is right, and everybody else is portrayed as insane. Then again, I'm not a Texan.

And probably the most controversial opinion I can honestly type: I think American Dad is a more consistently funny show than Family Guy. (Flame Shield Equipped) When American Dad makes a joke, it happens, and the show continues. When Family Guy makes a joke, they often dwell on it for about a minute, killing the joke.

Surface is good. It's about like, some weird marine iguana things that come up from the deep ocean but the government tries to cover them up. Pretty interesting. No episodes being shown anymore so you'd need to either buy it or find somewhere to stream it/download it.

One of my favorite shows currently Is AMC's the Walking dead. I am a huge zombie fan and enjoy the series very much. Very excited for it to resume next month.

One of my favorite animated shows is King of the Hill.

The Walking Dead
Law and Order: SVU(I thought season 13 would suck without Christopher Meloni and B. D. Wong, but it's still strong and has already been renewed for a 14th season.)
Bones
Glee
House
(I know the op said no reality shows, but I think these are some of the good ones)
Ghost Hunters(Though it's sort meh now.)
Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files
World's Dumbest...
WipeOut

And than a lot of anime.

CRIMINAL MINDS AND CSI: NY

really though, I love those two shows. I used to really like CSI, and I still do but with Langston gone it doesn't have the same touch it used to have. Those episodes with Jekyll were incredible, like the episodes with the Boston Reaper in Criminal Minds.

That reminds me, I've been recently watching Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction and it pretty much instantly became a favorite. Are we talking about the same show or is it just a coincidence that they're so similar?

I remember the first season of Heros being good, though after that.......

I also like The Office, House, and the thread favorites Adventure Time and Regular Show (I like Regular Show more though!). I also like to watch stuff like 1000 Ways to Die on History (is it on History? ergh) because they have good stuff my whole family can watch. TV Land has some great old shows like M*A*S*H*, but I don't watch them too often because I usually get kicked off the TV by my grandpa so he can watch The Wheel of Fortune. Oh yeah, and why the fuck aren't people talking about Avatar? (The Last Airbender, not space Pocahontas) Especially with the Legend of Korra coming this summer...!

EDIT: Oh yes, I also watch Digimon Xros Wars (subbed) every now and then. It's kinda eh.
