League of Legends: Let's Talk About uhhh??

mobility's really useful for terroring people late-game though

"oh are you running from this engage

CAN'T RUN FROM ME

50000 MOVEMENT SPEED BITCH"

i find Mobility is useful even in lane. Sion's cryptic gaze has a rather low range, and during the pre teamfight skirmish i find the movspeed extremely useful for catching people out of position. I can't hate on sorc or ESPECIALLY merc treads though (but i do find mpen fairly easy to itemize).

Unless you're talking about 1v1's in which case why the fuck is somebody trying to 1v1 Sion, sion is already kinda focused in teamfights due ot the nature of his shield, so I haven't really found great use in the boots for chasing down people during or just after a fight

it's more the initiation of the fight, and later on chasing down stragglers

mobility boots on AP sion has been standard in EU for MONTHS though. i think it only recently became very popular in the US

I see it built a lot even on NA streams, but I think I might just not know how to take advantage of them properly, as I find Sorc Shoes' power boost to be preferable.

When Xerath was coming out, I knew nothing about LoL. When Graves was released, I worried that he'd be too strong. When news of Shyvana reached my ears, I thought we'd get an interesting champion. But none of them have piqued my interest as much as Fizz.

Jebus told me earlier in this thread to not buy new champs right away, but holy hell, I may have to disobey that. I love harassment in LoL, and when a champ gets released with a passive that ignores unit collision, as well as reducing dmg from basic attacks, well, I am amazed. With such a (imo) cool passive, as well as an ability that gives your attacks a DoT effect as a passive, I can see him becoming a giant pain in the ass for his opponents. I am excited.

ya...try not buying this guy day 1

So I used to play DotA a few years ago and I'm kinda interested in playing a MOBA game again but don't want to spend any money at all.

How does LoL compare to DotA, are most of the skills with heroes and general play transferable? Is it alright to play without buying any micro transactions? How's the community?

yeah I haven't been as exciting for a new champ as I am for fizz in a while.

I never played DotA, but as for your other questions it is totally possible to play without buying any microtransactions. Every week they have a different group of free to play champs, and you'll gain points to be able to buy your own champs eventually just by playing them. The community is basically insufferable but so is every online gaming community so idk ?_? relatively speaking, its not that bad imo

Conserving mana is less of a thing, no denying, no mana burn, stealth can't be itemized, our version of the Blink Dagger is one of the most unbalanced things ever (after the upcoming nerf I'm not sure which way it's unbalanced), so is stealth for that matter, that's all I can think of.

Patch preview and season 2 mastery changes(!) are out, definitely look into them on leagueoflegends.com

Mastery changes are pretty game changing and I am unbelievably frustrated about Riot inexplicably not making a calculator tool with this to theory a little easier on but it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. The one mastery concept that really seems to have gotten destroyed is the 9/0/21 AP carry thing (even though most of the stuff that build takes now is still there), since now there's actually a reasonable opportunity cost in deep offense than AP carries probably won't be able to give up.

Jungle mastery choices are interesting to me though I overreacted to it a bit in the original edit of this post. The current 1/13/16-type builds get to keep most of their utility in something like 0/21/9 since Swiftness moved down to tier 2, the buff mastery seems to be one rank now(can't tell since it's scrolled off the side of the page...), and the Smite mastery moved to defense, which is a big help to the tankier jungler that are sort of running the competitive scene right now like Udyr, Trundle, and the recent Rammus resurgence. While most people build them tankier in the jungle anyway I'm curious what people will end up running on Gangplank, Nocturne, and especially Lee Sin since they don't fit in that archetype as well, though they could all survive running 0 defense (I think that the difference between a tank that's actually deep in defense vs. these guys just added atmogs midgame might start to be more meaningful, though). All the junglers are likely to lose the experience talent from support which messes with a bunch of routes, but I imagine Lee Sin at least will continue to mostly run 21/0/9 and ends up with slight damage buffs. Wonder if the new mastery set-up won't actually open the door for some new junglers since Butcher and Tough Skin are both tier 1... 19/2/9 might be fun for the Lee Sin types because of it, Executioner seems awfully gimmicky by comparison.

Some random interesting talents I'll enjoy seeing the effects of like the starting gold bonus in support, the tower siege related talents in offense and defense, the bonus gold on kill/assist talents in defense but not the hilarious xp one in support(wtf...), and that thornmail light for minions talent in defense (which is sort of a joke but it really will cut a couple seconds off Wraiths and Wolves for a lot of Junglers during the first clear or two). Most builds losing the experience talent (now points 13-16 in Support) interesting. Wishing Support could get away with 0/21/9 to break up monotony but imagining it won't happen because of Greed being a 3 pointer now if nothing else... maybe 0/19/11 for Mercenary + Greed?

Lot of ambiguous nerfs/buffs in the patch preview to keep us on our toes but the most interesting one is Caitlyn, Graves, and Kog'Maw getting ambiguous nerfs and Tristana, Corki, and MF getting ambiguous buffs to try to bring all the AD carries in line. I'm not really sure I agree with Riots perception here if I interpret that to mean they kind of have the AD carries tiered OP: Graves Kog'Maw Caitlyn Balanced: Ashe Vayne UP: Tristana Corki MF Burn in Hell: Twitch... I'm glad to see MF and kind of Corki getting some love but I thought Tristana was fine to begin with (though changing her abilities to actually scale off AD and nerfing her steroid a bit would modernize her nicely if that's more what they do) and Corki was at least close to being a competitively viable pick so I wonder if the two of them won't end up being the next FOTM. I think Caitlyn is a little overrated in that she's probably the worst AD in the game after 20 minutes if her lane opponent doesn't give her anything easy and manages to stay in her ballpark farming and given that Ashe basically fell off the planet after Dreamhack I'm a little surprised she went without a mention. Assuming the changes are relatively small in all directions it should make the AD field dramatically more balanced though, looking forward to it and will probably finally buy MF with that triple pack(even though I own Kat and will never play Xin...) because of it. She's the coolest AD anyway I have a nonironic gay video game crush on Graves but she can totally be my #2 if they nerf Kog substantially.

Concerns about the execution aside you have to give Riot credit for their hit list this patch: rebalancing ADs, AP Sion, Sona, hitting FOTM pretty well there. Outside of their weird hatred of nerfing AP assassins they got everyone I expected them to... except Xerath. Boggle...

You have your buffs and nerfs mixed up. Cait and co. are getting nerfed and Trist and co. are getting buffed.

The summoner spell/mastery change is slated for this patch? I was expecting those to come out as part of season 2 with the jungle remake.

Am I the only one who sees Indomitable (Reduce incoming damage by 1/2) and thinks it's far and away the strongest mastery perk now? I guess I don't know how that effect is calculated but if you are literally halving the damage you receive, that seems a little insane to me... Maybe the buffed offensive masteries will make up for it but I feel like that mastery alone will encourage players to play more bulky builds/champions in season 2.

hahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahah

So let me get this straight... I either don't change my Singed masteries at all and get 5% bonus speed, or I switch to 9/21/0 and retain the Ghost bonus while gaining 10% magic pen?

Ha ha ha ha ha

HA HA HA HA HA

HA HA HA HA HA

But seriously I love these changes because for once players are gonna have to make hard choices with masteries.

I'm curious to see what they do in the jungle... if it goes relatively unchanged then we are going to see more champs capable of a full jungle clear as well as faster over all jungle times. (referencing to the masteries)

I'm glad that they're nerfing the uber-range duo. Ever since Cait's release riot has said that since she has not steroid and therefore does not scale amazingly into late game that she was not op, but the clear fact is that the bot lane metagame was defined by Caitlin being ridiculously stupid to play against if you range was not also Earth or your name was not Urgot. I'm looking forward to seeing other ADs see play, as the steady stream of Cait is annoying me.

But wtf they nerfed AP Sion...this is retarded. Sion is not good late game, straight up, if the other team has collectively at least one brain. Why can't they just let him be good in early- and mid-game? HE IS A MELEE AP, how can you possibly think that he is OP. At least with an early game badass like Cait, she can at least just do really good damage to the enemy team from a crazy range. Sion, on the other hand, has no gap closer, and will literally lose HALF his damage if the team has any fucking clue how to focus fire. GAAAAAAH Riot stop nerfing the FotMs and fucking balance your game properly.
Aaaaaaaand they removed Nimbleness...
Can someone enlighten me of a replacement so that Jax will still be worth playing?

On a positive note, I like that you now have a mastery that starts you with 515 gold, which is awesome, because it means that you now have the option of going for a Doran's Blade and a health pot if you want a early lane advantage against an opponent who you don't think will be harassing you constantly. It makes doran's items at elast somewhat more viable in solo lane, and it allows you yo go Cloth+6 pots or Boots+4 pots for an advantage over your opponent as well

Yeah so Jax is officially done. I can't see anyone playing him until his supposed rework is done. As of right now, Jax is the new mordekaiser
