Media Minecraft Discussion Thread

Thats a concern I had aswell, the original design was about 1.7x bigger than this one. But if I cant fit it in the end, I guess I will have to go underground. And also thats another reason I would love some help with the redstone

I was thinking about making a nether rail back on the old server. The problem is that there's no way to prevent pigmen spawning on the tracks.

Only way I found was to place glass blocks just above the rail, which due to a glitch don't seem to suffocate you when you go through them. Relying on a glitch isn't a great idea though.

although it'd definitely be a pain in the ass to do, you could feasibly prevent them spawning by using upper-half slabs (i.e., slabs that occupy the upper half of a block), which should prevent mobs from spawning on them, seeing as they are transparent blocks.
You cannot, however, place rails on them, so if mobs are capable of spawning directly on rails, this only slightly mitigates the issue by reducing the number of blocks they are capable of actually spawning on the rail line.
Something like this is what i was thinking.

If you want to prevent pigmen from spawning on tracks, all you need to do is place upside down slabs above the track. This leaves a 1.5ish block clearance in which pigmen can't spawn and you can still ride through safely without taking suffocation damage. The walkway can be right next to it too and pigmen wont be able to get onto the tracks because of the slab.

Also, the Oho portal now opens up in Shii's basement. What do we do to fix this? One "solution" could be to ask Shii to block off the room and then make it accessible directly from the surface.

The upper half-block thing could work.
To be honest distances in the nether are usually small enough to walk. LSB was only a few minutes walk from OPLV on the old server, for example.

Getting nether portals to come out in the right places is a real pain; I connected up different corners of OPLV to five different portals back in the final days of the old server, with a central hub of EmeralHammer's Nether Nightclub. It was glorious and sadly no longer exists; even though I have the map saved the nether is all messed up in it.

Connecting up different settlements is easier, as you don't have to worry so much about accidentally connecting to a different portal. If a portal has come out in the real world somewhere you didn't want it to, just destroy the gate in the real world, make a new one somewhere close by but more tolerable (remember that the y axis doesn't matter; the old portal could be at bedrock and the new one at the sky limit and they'll still connect up with the same nether portal), and then activate it. This new one, if close enough to the old one, will simply connect to the already existing portal in the nether, rather than making a new one.

Wow.... Just. Wow.

Anyways, guys, I'm building a bomb shelter in Newer Haven. So far it has a melon farm, a supply clost, my little base of operations, a water supply, and of course, an explosive storage unit! What else should i add to my cozy little abode?

A can opener.

Be a shame to get in your bomb shelter after a nuclear Smogpocalypse and have no way to open your food.

Isn't that why we have axes? Though hopefully not wooden ones, still don't even get how wood axes cut anything for that matter...

here's something ive been messing around with
i'm not sure who made it but its p. cool

BOW & ARROW AIMING RECTICLE

i fuck up a lot with it sometimes
but i may be too retarded to use it haha
just posting in case anyone else would like to give it a shot
This thing is great, I was using it, and its really accurate.

1 thing I will suggest though, is that you move the pumpkin blur crosshair to the left a tiny bit. This is because when you shoot with the bow, the arrow comes out of the bow, at a tiny bit right of the normal crosshair.

i.e. When you shoot at something, the arrow comes out of the bow at the right of the 'plus' reticle (the default one)

Therefore to counter this, you can move the crosshair of the pumpkinblur.png to the left a bit. I know its not 90 degrees to the left, but it is somewhat to the left. You could probably test it via, going into creative, getting a bow, and shooting straight down at full power (at the ground). The first thing you will notice is that it doesnt land at the crosshair, so you could tweak your pumpkin blur one to suit it

Other than that, its perfect!

"near spawn"

good one

but yeah I'd like to know too!

A good idea, albeit somewhat unnecessary. I only made that portal to see the remains of the oho nether shelter house and repair it somewhat. It was never meant to be permanent. As I remember, that portal is now deactivated, allowing the original portal to serve as the main one. Maybe I was wrong?

Either way, I was planning on deactivating it.

Yeah I went ahead and deactivated it to check if the usual portal would work if your portal was gone, and it did so I left it like that. Sorry for not asking for your permission; I meant to ask you but just didn't see you online.

The "nearest" jungle is I think the one where RotatingAtom is building his underground cave temple surprise thing. You can get there fairly easily via the nether, just go straight on the path to Newer Haven / Pale Pass and turn right at the big jungle tree.

Sy123, I never did take the time to thank you for posting the MagicLauncher link. It has been very helpful to me, thank you.

So I have had the game for two months and have managed to get the hang of it quite a while ago. At the moment, I am still learning about different sorts of wirings and architectual decisions, but if anyone ever needs any help in constructing something, feel free to let me know and I would be happy to help.

Quick question: When constructing a mob spawner (or, in my case, a slime spawner), about how far away from it should every area be lit up to prevent other aggressive mobs from spawning/interfering with the productivity of my project?

What's the tool you use to create such a map?

It looks really interesting, it shows a LOT of stuff that I didn't even know existed.

Is it possible to have such a map of the Nether as well? That would be cool.

It doesn't work with the Nether because it has a bedrock ceiling.

In other news, I have initiated Hardcore Island >:O

Basically, you drop onto the island from a nether portal in the sky, and then you are free to do whatever on the island until you die, at which point you may never return! You can leave before you die if you want to do something off the island, but when you can't take anything with you and may not bring anything back upon your return! I'll put up a social thread for keeping track of residents.

The idea is awesome, food seems to be the hardest thing to obtain so far.

Also, Boro, possible loophole. A person may TP off the island while starving and come back later with full hunger bars.
