Media Minecraft Discussion Thread

Blaze Rods are used to make brewing stands, and come from Blazes, spawners of which are found in Nether Forts, which are only generated when structures are on. But yeah I see no reason you'd want to turn them off??

On the subject of rails, I think it would be great if they were built on colored wool (and hence color coded) since it would really make their use much easier. You could take the red line to town X or the blue line to town Y, with plenty of stops along the way. Major stops would offer inter-line connectivity, which would make it much less resource intensive than the "web" rail system where every town is connected to every other town using separate railways.

The spawner looks really awesome Swagger. Guessing the rails will take you to different areas; was wondering if you guys have sorted out all your ideas yet. If there is anything I can do to help I would love to get involved! :)

Fire.

The best place to come to see what's up is #smogcraft on SynIRC, but yeah just sign up on the whitelist and get all excited about the new server!!!!!!!

I like the idea of coloured wool for train lines; it would be a good project to gather all the dyes and get a sheep farm going, I don't think it would take too long if there were a few people working on it.

Utilt: Ok let's not use anything that burns, despite fire being nerfed by like 80% and LogBlock!

i'm against this on principle because i want to avoid the x y z line system we had on smogcraft 1.0

i'm an advocate of a circuit, inner+outer circle system that would allow us more organisation and to and from lines which will save us a lot of hassle

a ton of lines we had before were superfluous, and the system (on principle! i'm not slamming the people behind the idea, just the idea itself) was inherently messy

I'm not sure how "fire" is a legitimate argument against anything. Better not build anything out of wood, it might burn. Also cut down all those trees. We wouldn't want a fire hazard present.

So the rails would basically run around the perimeter of the server? I kinda like the idea of that. It would be pretty easy to make additions to account for expansion as well.

not the perimeter, just as a circuit that connected major settlements

honestly we got so trigger happy with rails last time that we developed a railway way before we needed one and this is about the last thing we should worry about now

i especially don't want to encourage launching the server and having people run off as far as they can get for the hell of it just because we can build rails. this caused us plenty of problems last time

Look at it from this perspective.

If someone burns down a house out of spite, logblock can just revert that chunk back a bit or that contained area of the house. I'm not even sure it would be possible to stretch that far.

So bukkit, our server software has released a test build. The full release might be this weekend and depending on how our plugins work we MIGHT have smogcraft ready for all very soon. Fingers crossed.

bordergaurd will prevent this. iirc we were going to set it at 1000blocks radius wich is big enough for exploring but not having 10min cart rides

that's kind of my point

i know that we are already limiting the border and i like that idea, but that's the kind of thinking that will encourage people to run to the borders and make settlements

not necessarily, i'd just like to encourage people to work on/with spawn for the time being and get that under their belts before we expand, and when we do expand, to think of the future then also!!

that said, i think the plan was in fact to increase the borders over time? or was this only when we were gonna do like 1.8/1.9 and then expand on release? ideka

I don't actually know. Alot of ideas have been tossed about and i am not sure if Xaq Forks and Layell discussed it...

I don't like joining discussion, i'm just the tech guy :D

Expansion of border should be expected but probably only if we really run out of space or if new buildings/areas pop up we would also expand a bit. Or if we somehow mine every resource in the map, which is really hard to do. I found diamonds in lsb near the end of its lifespan and we all know how that place was mined to hell.

Also one very important thing: We have had some people decide to troll our whitelist submission link with really annoying stuff. Considering I plan to be checking that on a regular basis to add people who want to play it isn't appreciated. To the person who most recently used it inappropriately (and for now shall remain anonymous), don't expect to be able to join our server once it launches. If you would like to come forward to us or just me/another op to explain and perhaps redeem yourself. Everyone else consider this a warning to not follow this pattern of behaviour.

haven't been playing minecraft much because the servers down but ive gotten back into it now =) i've been playing skyrim a lot recently and that helped spark ideas for minecraft again. i decided to build my own Jorrvaskr , the companions home. check it out and tell me what you guys think!
