Media Minecraft Discussion Thread

I am curious if anyone made those golems or are they natural.

The pale pass rail line is essentially complete, I have also made a rail line off of it that goes to an end portal. I'm hoping to make an official rail station in the near future and I hope we can find/make space for it.
 
As another note: All cats on public chests will be considered free sword practice.

EDIT: Putting half blocks over chests seems to stop this and let you use them, but still fair warning!

Also please refrain from taking things from players who may or may not have been banned, I have secured the most valuables in a bedrock vault and the rest are safe enough now that anyone would be very dumb to try and steal them. If said user stays banned we may consider giving these valuables out as gifts for service to the general server.
 
just as a note to all of you in oho oasis: theres a bit of a snafu with the new tree farm, namely i didnt leave enough space for things like a platform for jungle trees and space between types of trees so the leaves dont get intertwined. once thats fixed the tree farm will be open for business (and its a little less than double the size of spawn's and three times as large as the previous oho farm)
 
Thank you soo much for the rails layell, i am about 50% done, nearly all planks in just have to smooth stone and arch it. I want to add something. can we seriously fix spawn, we went from lsb to this and its really starting to irritate me, there isnt even room for a proper railway building
 
Please consider this guys, move spawn here have a fresh start and build a GOOD rails station ect, not a clusterfuck of pointless shit

Eh, I doubt spawn will be moved there. But I would like to say that a couple of the buildings do seem uneccessary for spawn. Maybe remove a couple of them and it would be not as cluttered, allowing some of the other buildings that are IMPORTANT to become bigger.

Just a suggestion to go with the before mentioned complaints about spawn.
 
sure, that doesn't sound like the worst idea

why don't we just have an aerial map of spawn posted here, buildings named/numbered etc and people can discuss why x or y building can go or be moved or merged and then we can see where that gets us?

really, the "organic" spawn thing didn't work at all, but that doesn't mean it is completely a lost cause, and this way we can improve things whilst preserving materials and not stepping on any toes
 
Am I the only one who thinks spawn is fine as is? You've got all the functional stuff you could ever want from a spawn, Most of the buildings look decent and the ones that don't just need a facelift. I don't think there's any need to just go and move spawn. Besides a lot of work has been put into some of the buildings at spawn eg Rawbi's sheep farm. It would be a pain to have to take all that down then rebuild it somewhere else.

I'm up for renovating current spawn a bit, but I think moving the whole thing is a bit excessive.

Also, is the server down for anyone else as well? I was playing and it crashed at around 1 PM GMT and when I checked back an hour later it was still down.

EDIT: @az I should have been more specific I meant to say that moving the whole spawn to the new are asdfy has found. I think moving small buildings within spawn is fine, but moving larger stuff like the sheep farm or wheat farm would be a massive hassle. But things like moving the potion room and furnace room should be fine
 
just for clarification, when i mentioned moving buildings i meant within the current spawn

relocating the whole thing doesn't seem too appealing to me, although it would getall that horrible pixel art in the sky out of my way!! (seriously it was annoying enough the first few times, stop building more)
 
I think what spawn needs are paths to the major buildings, not necessarily a complete redesign. The rail station is w/e, there is definitely space to move it closeby but that's going to take a ton of work (and definitely someone who knows redstone so we can have different lines like smogcraft 1.0).
 
in order to path out to major buildings, i think you'll find we'd need a redesign anyway because of how scrambled and messy the whole thing is

freeform in itself isn't bad, but spawn also isn't terribly open -- you can't see where what you might want to get to is from any given position thanks to weird elevations etc

planning a neat clean spawn did us a ton of favours last time, we really should have just preserved that design
 
the reason i campaigned against that spawn design last time was because it was too repetitive and it basically locked us into that design. yes, a completely free spawn didn't work. however I dont think we should have like one central stone building and THIS IS SPAWN and there is no room for creativity. I like the idea of having the layout somewhat organic, but in reality what should have happened was what we did with oho: set up the important buildings first (or at least mark off the areas), then allow people to come in and build.
 
i don't see how it was too repetitive -- all the buildings had a unique style and there was no repetition aside from i guess the farms side by side...? we certainly weren't locked into anything and people freely customised on the design

people were supposed to be free to come in and build based on my spawn design for smogcraft 2.0 but it was taken out of my hands and butchered, so!!

still, it was no doubt our most successful spawn so far, and it was clean and open enough to pop by and get what you needed with ease
 
we were locked into a square frame and small lots for each of the buildings which wasn't ideal in my mind!

edit: and yeah if we could get a map so we can doodle on it and try to hash out a plan to move things around that would be gr8

edit2: i forgot that there were buildings around the large stone building I guess, I was only referring to the large stone castle structure as "spawn"
 
the lots were pretty large for communal buildings (smaller than they would have been in my design) and unlimited for free building

i can't think of a single building that exists in our current spawn aside from the wool farm (which obviously would have fitted outside spawn nicely, similar to the tree farms to the north of 2.0 spawn) that are bigger than any of the buildings we had within "city limits" last time, so that's not a valid criticism at all. even if you can demonstrate that there are bigger buildings, that just goes to show that we needed to start larger -- it isn't a critical flaw of having a cleanly and crisply set out spawn design

I have big plans for it, BUT: I don't want anyone to see it before I'm done.

That means: You can check out the above ground part (which you will, because that's where the Nether Portal leads), but DO NOT SWIM DOWN THE GOLDEN WELL. Thanks a lot!
 
this is the way i see it, but i could be a complete fucking moron:

we have too many people with too many different aesthetics and tastes
what we need is more cohesive ideas
oho and pale pass look nice because they both have specific styles to work within
there's a direction and a balance in them that doesn't exist with spawn

spawn is a big collection of whatever somebody thought was cool to build at the time
but that's what you get when you just let anybody create their own content
some people have a good eye, others have shit
and still people will argue over what is shit and what is good

what we're looking for is coherence
the half-block slab column-style spawn we had on the old server was good
it caused everything inside it to conform to a specific space constraint
in that sense, it made everything feel like it fit together

but there is a lot of debate about that design and the freedom to build, so we should explore other ideas
maybe we can connect the buildings that are important and divide the town into sections
or think about a structure that can unify all of the stuff we already have
in the end we might end up giving a lot of the buildings a facelift

but what we need is unity
