Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

On a related note, how do you tell if a NPC is in a fixed movement pattern? Does that mean they are moving continuously or should I just check by checking the frame?

Just stand next to the NPC. If they repeat the same movement in order and time, they are fixed. You can take the egg area as an example. All of them have random movements except the one moves back and forth. NPCs that normally battle just turn randomly.

Yeah I'm talking about the non-trainer NPC at the top of 202... He doesn't look like he's in a fixed pattern but I'll have to check later. Otherwise I'd just use the VS Seeker, right?

Like Vaporeon said, yes you can. Just make sure you open up the menu fast enough after catching the pokemon so the NPC doesn't affect you. If you see the NPC, you can guess how many it advanced.

To find out how many journal flips you need to do after sweet scenting once, do this math:

Target Frame - Actual Frame (of caught pokemon) - 7 on grass and caves, 8 in water (5 for battle, 1 for monster frame, 1 for Sweet scent)

If that number is odd, you can close the menu, turn, and open the menu again, or you can try and use the NPC to your advantage. If the number is even, divide by 2, do the journal flips, and then sweet scent. Try not to have a runner while doing this, because I am not sure if advances 1 after the battle to find its new location or not.

Okay.. so I hit my delay, caught the pokemon, it's on frame 26 (I guess the dude already moved. DX)
So 1226 - 26 = 1200, -7 = 1193, -1 for the turn I just did = 1192. So now it's 596 journal flips. Here I go. XD

Edit:

Fail. Ended up at 1125. I knew I counted wrong, but that far off is just pathetic. XD
I'll try again some other time.

Is there another way to confirm what delay I alnded on, other than the coinflips? I found a guy the turns around on the route I'm trying to catch my pokemon. He moves much too often to get 10 coinflips in. Would swet scenting a pokemon to catch it and find the initial seed work? Or would it mess up the frame?

Thanks, Vaporeon. I think I'll wait for a second opinion.

Hello again. The guy moving around should not affect the initial seed, so your 10 coin flips should always match. However, once you start advancing the RNG you'll find the guy moving around will mess everything up. If you're extremely patient you can catch a pokemon after you've gone through the process, and see how many frames ahead it is, and subtract that from your target frame. This method will take luck and skill

Yeah I'm not too good with luck. :P
The guy is generally moving before I even get all the coin flips off.
I'm talking about the guy to the right now, he's hiding behind a bush and pivots all over the place. XD
So he already messes up the frame.

Are you saying I do the coin flips, then catch a pokemon and check the frame, and adjust the flips accordingly?

I was wondering. When I save next to the old guy in the bike, my initial frame is usually 6 (with journal).
When I save without a bike, it's usually 5. Does it make any difference, or I'm just lucky/unlucky? xD

Excellent, landed my 3rd pokémon with RNG!
Azurills were in the garden and I found a good shiny adamant ability 1 spread :D

I can't wait until the kinks are worked out of the PokéRadar process.

Also, question.
If you Vs. Seeker and save, will they stay in 'not moving' mode when you start back up?
I'd test it myself, but I'm away from my DSi until tomorrow.

EDIT: Nvm, decided to wake back up to use it again. But unfortunately I don't think they stay :(

They do stay "not moving", otherwise there would be no point in fighting them all. You have to save and reset to hit your delay and target time anyway..

The neutral (Docile, Hardy, Bashful, Quirky, Serious), Lax and Gentle natures are in gray because they aren't considered to be of any use in competitive battling.

Few changes were made to my guide for reaching higher delays as I now recommend using wichu's PokeRNG program to find desired seeds...

Trick to avoiding future dates in order to reach higher delays

Prerequisites:
- Synchronizer with desired nature when necessary
- a Pokemon with sweet scent
- pedometer & coin toss poketches
- ability to check IVs (preferably with an AR)

1. First find the seed of your desired pokemon, preferably using Wichu's PokeRNG program as further details on how it works and where to download can be found here.

2. Make note of desired seed, then from the RNG Reporter click "Seed To Time", enter your seed, year = 2009, then click generate, and it should list all the dates, time & delay that your seed is available. What I normally do is choose a date where there's the most frequency. For example, seed 390F02B8 occurs 50 times on 8/1/2009 between 15:00:49 and 15:49:00 and has a 59 second gap in between in order to retry hitting that delay of 687 over and over again.

3. To hit the delay of say 687, then it be wise to beforehand synchronize your DS clock with at least the minutes and digital seconds from your clock or watch, then go to a patchy grass area and capture any pokemon and use any method possible to accurately obtain its IVs. I use an AR for IV checking so it's much quicker for me that way. To get an idea of what delay you are hitting, click DPPt Seed Finder on the RNG Reporter, enter the DS year, month, date, hour, minute from the time you pressed "continue" when you started the game to go capture, along with your captured pokemon's nature and IVs, then press find. Look for the line where type = "Initial", then note that Seconds is when you "actually" pressed the continue button, and the delay is how long it actually took for you to press start until you pressed continue. If your delay is an even number and your target delay was odd, then insert any GBA cart. Same applies if your target delay is even and you're hitting an odd delay.

4. Ok, now you should be able to start determining how to hit your delay. Normally if you keep pressing A from start to continue constantly you should hit a delay in the low 600's, but to extend it, do the exact same thing but in platinum when you hear giratina roar, or in diamond and pearl after the 2nd chime, pause for up to a second or 2, and then press the "continue" button. This obviously takes some practicing to do and the better you get at it you can reach those hard to reach delay.

For the record, all my recent RNG catches had dates from 5/6/2009 through 8/30/2009 and delays ranging from 622 through 1800 in 2009.

I'm having trouble with rng abuse for wild pokemon. My target frame is 145, I have 4 roamers, and I'm sweet scenting where there is one trainer but he doesn't move. I calculated my advances to be: 145-4-2= 139

I hit my seed, walked 128 steps with 5 pokemon in my party. Then, I opened my journal and flipped between two "caught pokemon" pages 67 times. Then, I sweet scented the grass. The frame I hit was 416 though.....I don't know how I am that far off. Any ideas what I did wrong?

When in grass, every step advances the RNG and every turn. Also, if you walked 128 steps out of grass and walked in, that advances the RNG also. Try just standing in the grass and turning once, then do the journal flips.

I'm looking at method J. Do moving trainers only affect you if they are onscreen? cause there is one trainer but he doesn't move. Maybe there is one further away that I can't see or something.

Oh, if one of the caught pages says "caught a pokemon using a sweet aroma" along with the regular caught phrase, does that affect anything?

Off screen NPCs do affect you.

I've never seen the sweet aroma part to be honest, but I would assume it is the usual two. If you try again and go the same amount over, just do less flips.

OMFG!!!!!!!!!! W000000000T.

Sorry but I'm just so happy, I finally got a shiny hatched egg ^_^, It was a starmie but meh, I'm really happy now. It was my second attempt with RNG.

My next goal? - Learn to catch flawless Iv'd pokemon. =/.

You can't get frame 12 in this situation. It is suggested that you re-save and hope you land on an odd frame. If you don't feel like re-saving, you can attempt to take the egg a little later so an NPC moves, but that isn't suggested since to many can move.

Ok I'm losing my mind now >:o

Of course it's no fault of those here but I can't grasp this at all.

Wichu suggested to me getting a seed with a seconds time timed from setting the time on the DS clock and then switching off - back on and into the game. I timed it and got 28 seconds which musn't work and I DON'T KNOW! :(

So I need it step by step (normal way). This is what I have so far:
- Get the time
- Take your seconds time off (in my case 15)
- Set your DS clock to a minute before this time
- Reset at the time
- Mash A to get to the continue screen at the target time
- Do journal flips (if applicable)
- Quickly collect the egg
- Do coin flips to check you've hit the right delay/catch a pokemon and use the initial seed finder
- If not, repeat
- If yes, done

^Is that right? Where am I going wrong? agh :(

I know I must be a pain to you guys... sorry
