Nickname discussion

I just came up with a pair of awesome names for Plusle and Minun: Annie (or Andy) and Catherine.

If you're a chemistry buff, you'll get the reference.
Yes I get the references. Good names. I would choose Andy over Annie due to the fact one of them looks more male to me...

If David Bowie is a Mew, who would be Mewtwo?

Nicknames are my favorite part about Pokemon itself! It's when I get to make puns, while also giving my Pokemon a solid identity. Here are some of the nicknames I currently have for some of my Pokemon. As well as past nicknames.

Niagra/Lisa(female) or Iguazu(male) the Gyarados: Niagra and Iguazu are both real-life waterfalls, while Lisa is a reference to the band TLC with their hit song, "Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls" The waterfall motif references Gyarados's mythical origin as a carp who jumped up a waterfall through the Dragon's Gate and was transformed into a dragon.

Pyroclast the Slugma/Marcargo: This is a shortening of the term "pyroclastic flow", referring to the movement of lava, which works well for a Pokemon made mostly of lava.

Jackie the Blaziken: After the famous kung-fu expert, Jackie Chang.

For my Doubles OU team (read: a sample team I got from our forums), I named all of my Pokémon after Keyblades from the Kingdom Hearts series.
Oblivion probably fits Aegislash better aesthetically, but Oathkeeper goes with its nature as a Special Attacker and doesn't sound edgy.

I'm pretty terrible at nicknaming my Pokemon sometimes, but there are a few I'm a bit proud of.

Megas XLR - Golurk (after the titular robot of Megas XLR)
Marina - Bisharp (after the heroine of Mischief Makers)
Coldhead - Cryogonal (after an enemy in Megaman Battle Network 3)
Smogling - Weezing (after the main enemies of Chibi Robo: Park Patrol)
Disco Sue - Bouffalant (after Disco Stu of The Simpsons)
Arachwidow - Ariados (combination "Arachnid" and "Black Widow")
The Cat - Steelix (nice little pun on "Felix the Cat")
Shining - Starmie (not actually shiny, play on "Shining Star")

As well as some that I'm still working on that follow a theme. The theme is "Female wolf-like Pokemon, whose nicknames would be words beginning in Des". Manectric and Mightyena would have been part of this, had I not trained them before getting this idea. (For the curious, Manectric is named Mikazuchi, Japanese god of thunder, and Mightyena is Emily, named after a friend who loves Mightyena.)

Despair - Arcanine
Desire - Houndoom
Destiny - Luxray

Has anyone thought about Gregor (Samsa) the Kadabra? It's a reference to Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis, as well as Kadabra's FireRed dex entry. What if a depressing human suddenly woke up one morning to realize they were a Kadabra!? I would wonder if the individual would simply lose the will to live after a few months, or use their newly-found powers to their benefit. The person might have been simply cursed with awesome, but didn't know what to do with it.
I've been thinking about this, and I like it but would probably use it on a Scizor since it has a more humanoid appearance and is an insect. I love Kafka though, you inspired me to read The Trial again.

Anyway, named my newly-hatched shiny Stunky "Amelie." Being that this Stunky is female and magenta it needed a female name. Stunky also made me think of parfum, so it why not a french name? Now I have this bad ass sword dancing Stunktank.

Today, I reset my copy of X so I can start a Team Rocket Challenge (well, a modified version that is more accurate type-wise*).
After naming myself "Rocket Grunt" and having my new underlings call me "Boss", I decided to do a theme with my Pokémon:
After naming my Froakkie "Giovanni" after the Boss, I decided that all of my Pokémon will have Italian names (no offense to any Italians). So far, I have Lucia the Bunnelby Diggersby and Michelangela the Scatterbug Vivillon and Alessandro the Ivysaur. Plus the HM slave Giuseppina the Bibarel.
FOR THE GLORY OF TEAM ROCKET!!!!!!

*removed Ghost (never used by Team Rocket in RGBYGSCFRLGHGSS**) and added Psychic and Fighting (the Drowzee line and Machop line were very common amongst Grunts in RGBYGSCFRLGHGSS).
**Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, FireRed, LeafGreen, HeartGold, SoulSilver. And yes, I did actually check every single Grunt and Executive to make sure that the challenge was accurate.

EDIT: A side bit of irony, here. After all the work I did, I still produced a team that could fit in the standard rules as I will add Gengar and Houndoom, neither of which require the additional types to be used.

In my pokemon Pearl Nuzlocke (with a touch of cheating), I nicknamed my Buizel (now a Floatzel) Jet. My Monferno is named 'Blaze' and my Happiny is called 'Joy'. My Gyrados (formally called Fishee) was renamed 'Leviathan.' My Kadabra is called 'Zam!'

Well, I have my share of nicknaming things. Playing in English X helped me in making cool names I couldn't do in my Japanese AS.

First of all, though, it is my Triples team core I used in Battle House.
Heatnix
(Heat + Phoenix. I recall, also a Maverick boss in Rockman X6)
Navitzer
(Navy + Howitzer. I mean, cool panzer)
Kirito
(霧 Kiri, 'mist'. Not related to SAO's Kirito, I'd make him Physical if I do)
I also have a girl Nymphia named... Nina. Basic, but cute. I should get another one specialized for Trick Room, naming him Elpis or Elpizo of Rockman Zero 2.

I also did Psychic specialism. Esper type is cool.
Vixenia
(Sounds basic, but I like how it sounds)
Maleficia
(Looks maleficent enough)
ほしな (Hoshina. Partially keepsake name of a friend)

And haven't had it yet, but would want to have a male Nyaonix named Nix. Being dark blue colour helps.
And should have named a Metagross "Arms of War" in X. He's made for wars.
The others are not very creative though, like ルナたん (Cresselia) and ラティちゃん (Latias)

And then there are some cool names like Anticalibur, Blazerion, ジュピテル (Jupitel), Voltyr/らいと, and so on. Somehow I like making it sounding like they came from some RPG.

Anyways, seeing epic names makes my creativity flow somehow.

It's Megaqwer's Time!
As Fatso
As You cant see me(If you put a opaque mirror in front of sableye, it is almost invisible o3o)
As Shuriken (It's shape always reminded me of it)

Please note:Delete my post if anything said is bad/wrong.Thank you n_n

I feel like this is a reference to something, since I've heard that name before for a Slowpoke. What's it from?
Vader_the_White's correct, it was a Roots reference. Because I'm evil.

Although there is this popular gen1 Slowbro centering around the move Amnesia (since in Gen 1 it was a proto-Geomancy) called Tobybro, kind of like CroCune for Suicune.

For nicknames that aren't expressions of my dark sense of humor, I like to nickname flying types after famous airplanes (can you figure them all out?):

SR-71 the Yveltal
B-17 the Skarmory
Dreamliner the Latias (787)
Corsair the Pelipper
P-38 the Zapdos
A6M Zero the Yanmega
B-52 the Lugia... or the Crawdaunt.

SR-71 is the Blackbird if memory serves correct.
B-17 is a bomber known as the Flying Fortress (considering Skarmory's role, that's a pretty good one).
P-38 is the Lightning.
The Mitsubishi A6M Zero was a fast, yet frail fighter used by Japan in World War II.
B-52 is a really, really big bomber that has been in use by the USAF since the 1950's and still going strong.

I have no idea what the Dreamliner is and I would guess that a Corsair is a seaplane of some type.
*looks up*
Oh, the Dreamliner is a type of passenger jet which echoes the Latis' design. And you did say 787 and I missed it.
I was close on the Corsair as it was carrier based fighter used by the U.S. Navy in World War II.

If we ever get a lemur Pokemon, I'm going to name it either Zoboomafoo or Jovian (The lemur who played the live action segments.) from the old PBS Kids TV show.

Did I mentioned Little Mac the Breloom yet? I'll do it again anyway. Needed something that could paraylze and use False Swipe for catching Pokemon, and saw Breloom was exactly what I needed. I think because Breloom looks like a boxer to me, is small, AND green, Little Mac is a fitting name.

I've added a few Pokémon since. I've caught Sergio the Gengar and Salvatore the Houndoom plus I've replaced Lucia with Alonso the Meinfoo. I've also captured an HM Slave: Adriana the Hawlucha.

EDIT: I've started a new playthrough of X, so I thought I would share the nickname I like the best of my team:
Maddie the Meowth, after voice actress Maddie Blaustein, who voiced Meowth from the 32nd episode to the 145th episode of Advanced (i.e., the most iconic voice for Meowth to me and many others).

EDIT 2 (Will someone please come up with another nickname so I can stop editing this post to add to this topic?):
I am planning on doing a mono-mon run soon using a Magikarp that I will name Mr. Fish. Why? I saw this and it was magical:

I'm going to San Francisco in August to watch Worlds and compete in the side events, so I want to breed a bunch competitive Pokemon to use in battles. Which, of course, means that the most important aspect of a Pokemon is its nickname!

Staraptor: In honour of the recently named UK research vessel, I named this fearsome predator of the skies "Birdy McBirdface". Or I would have liked to, except that the character limit didn't allow it, so I had to settle for "Birdy McBird".

Luxray: A noble lion deserves a noble name: "Lux Aeterna".
