Noble Items

I don't think that would matter much in practice (It does let Talonflame Swords Dance past a slow Prankster's Taunt [Sableye] if it does work that way, I'll admit), but I honestly have no clue. It's not possible in normal play to create that situation, so it would take some pretty heavy hacking to test it on a cart too.

Glare, like most Status moves, ignores type-based immunities. Thunder Wave is the proper thing to test, and regardless that doesn't actually answer whether Gale Wings would then interpret an altered move's typing as being a valid move to +1 the priority of.

For reference though, Normalized Thunder Wave works on Ground types and fails against Ghosts.

to be honest i your iron plate to be just bit over powered-
I mean we have the fire plate that gives a 50 percent chance to burn and that can't stack more than once. I don't mind the concept, but the 100 percent chance to boost defense is insane it could be 50 percent to line up with your flame plate. that is just my opinion we could take care of it when we get to balancing but it just seems really abuseabel as is.

To keep this thread active in this phase, here are some questions
  • Are there any items you want to see in the next slate? (Types only, after Dark type that was suggested)
  • Which entries for this week do you agree/disagree with? [Remember: Be to the point and decisive, no hate]
  • Are there any new possible strategies/sets that can be made with the last week's items?
  • What Pokemon take advantage from those items?
=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=
Iron Plate:
Flavor: Block, The Item. Build a huge wall with one metal brick, although Flying types can fly over it. (Also based on Bastiodon, it being able to learn the move, and it's iron fortress head thingy)
Competitive: One-use Shadow Tag that can trap Ghosts. Endless possibilities, but only works one time and leaves the user item-less.

Metal Coat:
Flavor: "It is a special metallic film". So Pokemon wearing it become Steel type like Ghoul King's Reaper Cloth.
Competitive: Steel is a great defensive typing. Defensive pokemon with meh typings can use this item not only to become bulkier, but also to get Toxic immunity.

Iron Ball:
Flavor: The user gains the effects similar to that of Gravity, and has it's speed reduced like always. It's Japanese name is Black Iron Ball, and Dark type resists Dark and Ghost, while Steel lost those resistances.
Competitive: Zap Cannon, Inferno and Analytic could be used efficiently, while also giving the user more resistances. Ghost and Psychic types with Hypnosis could also doubly benefit from this item.

Metal Powder:
Flavor: Counterpart to Silver Powder (I know it's originally a counterpart to Quick Powder, buuut...)
Competitive: Safe switch-in plus double Intimidate. For all kinds of predictions.

Are there any new possible strategies/sets that can be made with the last week's items?
The Sky Plate is of course Arceus' gift to the myriad (Physical) Flying types that aren't birds and thus have few/no Flying moves. Beyond that it means literally any Physically attacker and a lot of Special attackers gain access to Flying coverage, albeit at the cost of their item slot and it becoming the terrible Normal type if they lose the item, but regardless this is significant because most Flying moves (Other than Aerial Ace) are learned by Flying types and that's about it. (You get the occasional "Brave Bird on Blaziken" type of thing, but the point is Flying coverage is rare)

Sharp Beak is (almost) a straight upgrade (Usually) to a Band for Talonflame, since critical hits are a 50% boost to damage just like the Band. It could also be neat on Paraflinchhax Togekiss, for making its Air Slash punch right through Special Defensive boosts. There's almost certainly other uses for it, those are just are the obvious ones.

The Pretty Wing is honestly probably going to replace Leftovers on everything that runs Roost -and I don't just mean Flying types. Also it helps Swanna be relevant, though honestly Swanna's problems are so diverse and deep I don't see this bringing it into relevancy.

The Air Balloon is of course a boon to everything that ever ran it, but is especially improved for Heatran and Magnezone, since it's not unusual for an attacker that wants to pick on their Ground weakness to only have ineffective attacks otherwise. (Note that Air Balloon Magnezone now laughs at most Excadrill, for instance, since it resists Iron Head and Rock Slide/Stone Edge) In general Steel types are the biggest beneficiaries, including that this might help the likes of Probopass. Maybe. Even for silly stuff like pure Electric types it has the advantage of allowing them to come in on Earthquake and on Steel, Flying, or Electric moves and keep the Balloon. So that's cool.

We have 3 ties in this week's slate (one of them is a triple tie). A fourth person has to vote!
((I'll edit this post once the problem is solved.))

Really?
So we managed to all tie on one? damn
(time to go create a fake account, not really that would be a dick move)

You should just make a new post so we can get a notification

Someone did win one for now, but if I posted it, it'd influence the fourth person's votes. And ok, I'll make another post when I end the voting phase.

Dread Plate: The holder's damaging Normal type moves become Dark type and Taunt the foe.
Flavor: What outrageous behavior!
Competitive: Widespread Taunt access! Kinda!

Black Glasses: The holder's damaging Dark type moves lower the target's Attack and Special Attack by one stage each on a successful hit. Does not trigger multiple times for multi-hit moves.
Flavor: Intimidation tactics via cool glasses.
Competitive: Adds an extra, protective effect to Sucker Punch, for one. In general makes Dark moves put a lot more pressure on the enemy, but has the trade-off that it only benefits Dark moves. (Which arguably isn't much of a trade-off) Incidentally negates Justified's boost -but watch out for Defiant and Competitive!

Razor Claw: If the holder goes before the target, their attack is a critical hit. The holder cannot use Status moves.
Flavor: Take the Razor Claw's existing effect, and make it stronger, and particularly suited to Weavile.
Competitive: A boost equivalent to a Band or Specs, usually, only it also punches through defensive boosting. Usually stronger than the Dragon Fang, only it doesn't work against Shell Armor/Battle Armor and has an Assault Vest-type disadvantage, restricting its full strength. Also doubles as a crueler Trick-Vest off Klutz Pokemon, since something like Chansey doesn't get any benefit out of the Razor Claw.

Razor Fang: The holder's contact moves raise the holder's attack by one stage when successful.
Flavor: A fang that sharpens itself! (This is an actual thing that happens in nature, where an animal's fangs or claws are designed such that they essentially sharpen themselves in the process of cutting something)
Competitive: Provides a kind of boosting tool to Pokemon that lack such and can allow a rampaging Pokemon to become very scary very quickly -Gyarados might legitimately run this over Gyaradosite, since in conjunction with Moxie it could plausibly go for a Dragon Dance and then hit max Attack before it even completes its sweep. Nonetheless, inferior to a lot of immediate payoff items if you don't plan on sticking in or need the KO now, and only applies to contact moves anyway, restricting its power.

Bump. I didn't forget about this, but I'm not ending this phase because we have way too few submissions. If anyone is interested, please do submit something!

Dread Plate: The holder's damaging Normal type moves become Dark type and also hits the target before switching out. Its power becomes x1.3 when it hits the foe trying to switch out. If the foe switches, priority +7. Otherwise, priority +0.
Flavor: I'll pursue you until you're dead!
Competitive: Pursuit is kinda weak and has limited distribution. This makes more moves gain Pursuit effect.

Black Glasses: The holder's damaging Dark type moves Knock Offs the foe's item, with exceptions off all un-Knock Offable item. Base power x1.2 when it removes an item.
Flavor: You're a Men In Black that steals items and throw it away.
Competitive: All Dark moves gets a weaker Knock Off effect with this thing. Sucker Punch removing Band/Specs/Life Orb can be useful because you get less damage when you get hit.

Razor Claw: All of the holder's moves always result in critical hit, but lower Defense, Special Defense and Speed by one stage when it hits.
Flavor: You wear a claw that can cut through anything, but it is very heavy that makes you tired.
Competitive: A Band/Specs boost that can switch moves. Good for hit-and-run users.

Razor Fang: The holder's contact moves raise the holder's Attack and Speed by one stage when it KOs an opponent.
Flavor: Wearing this makes you becoming a psycho that likes beating things. The more you beat things, the more you become powerful.
Competitive: Kinda similar to Moxie, but with Speed Boost.

=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=
Dread Plate:
Flavor: Scary Face, the item.
Competitive: Great for some of the slower offensive Dark types, and for pesky support ones. Pangoro becomes a better support option by reducing Attack, Special Attack and Speed with Parting Shot. Sableye gets even more annoying with speed-reducing Taunt.

Black Glasses:
Flavor: Types and a move related to light, which Black Glasses protect you from.
Competitive: Like NeverMeltIce and Dragon Scale, this item can be used to make many things more bulky. No type has a weakness to both Fairy or Electric, so you're either going to use this on Mandibuzz, which has the two weaknesses, or you're (almost) going to get a resistance.

Razor Claw:
Flavor: Honing sharp claws so they get ultra-sharp.
Competitive: One turn "wasted" and you've got yourself an array of guaranteed critical hits. Stone Edge becomes insane, and so does Sniper Barbaracle (sacrifices Shell Smash's speed for lots of power).

Razor Fang:
Flavor: The fang helps the Pokemon to keep holding the opponent with it's teeth!
Competitive: Guarantees that the Pokemon stays in until the next turn, but you get locked into one move (or a few, but only Tyrantrum is going to use many biting moves) if you want to trap the opponent.

Are there any new possible strategies/sets that can be made with the last week's items?
The Iron Plate (Which really ought to say "Normal moves becomes Steel type") is of course a pretty generic boost to a lot of Pokemon, though Steelix and Aggron are some of the more notable examples, having Rock Head+Double Edge and now the ability to make it STAB and stronger. (For Aggron, Iron Plate Double Edge will actually hit harder than Head Smash, for instance) Another notable is Lucario, both because it has Extreme Speed (!) and because it lacks a Physical Steel STAB of any competence normally and this makes up for it. Empoleon is another... there's a decent list of Pokemon that appreciate it, without even looking at all the Pokemon that appreciate random Steel coverage.

The Metal Coat is Arcues' gift to setup sweepers (Toxic immunity), include Resttalk Suicune, and of course brings Hidden Type's Steel Dragonite here. (Only without Leftovers or any other item to make it truly abominable) Predictable weaknesses though.

The Iron Ball is obviously ideal for Trick Room sweepers -it can turn almost anything into a viable Trick Room choice, and throws in a bonus to Accuracy that makes inaccurate-but-powerful moves like Focus Blast reliable. It also has a secondary niche for already-slow Pokemon that would like more accurate moves. But mostly I see this as Trick Room Nidoking's thing, honestly.

Lastly, the Metal Powder is an excellent item for Blissey and indeed any wall that's mixed but overall worse at Defense.

Mind Plate: User's Psychic-type status moves get +1 priority.
Flavor: Mind is quicker than the body -- apologies to Tarontos for stealing the idea.
Competitive: Psychic is kind of a crap attacking type, so I didn't feel like an -ate plate would be all that desirable. This item could be useful for 'mons using any of Psychic's various status moves.

Twisted Spoon: User's Psychic-type attacks are super-effective against Steel-type Pokemon.
Flavor: It's bending a metal spoon with your brain.
Competitive: Psychic-types might use this so they don't have to use clunky coverage against Steel-types, possibly freeing up a moveslot. Jirachi could be a fun user.

Odd Incense: User becomes confused at the end of each turn if they weren't already. Doubles Spinda's in-game Attack and Special Attack.
Flavor: It's... odd? And so is Spinda.
Competitive: Trick it onto something, quick! Or use it on Tangled Feet Spinda for supreme hax hilarity.

Destiny Knot: The user's Destiny Bond lasts for two turns instead of one.
Flavor: [DESTINY INTENSIFIES]
Competitive: Destiny Bond users don't have to spam it and bait an attack any more -- they can instead alternate between Destiny Bond and some other move.

Mind Plate: The holder's damaging Psychic type moves doubles the power on resisted hits.
Flavor: You can do better things, as long as you put your mind in it.
Competitive: Psychic is a crap attacking type. By giving Tinted Lens effect, this will make it less crap. Dark types are still immune, so its not really overpowered or anything.

Twisted Spoon: If the holder is Psychic type, its Special Attack becomes x1.5, but decrease 12.5% of health if it uses a Special damaging move.
Flavor: You push yourself to the limit of your power, but you wore yourself quickly
Competitive: Basically a stronger Life Orb, but only for Psychic types.

Odd Incense: Extends the duration of Trick Room into 10 turns
Flavor: You twisted the dimensions into an odd one.
Competitive: Trick Room is merely a gimmick. This will make it less gimmicky at least.

Destiny Knot: Anyone who KOs the holder got Cursed.
Flavor: A poke will haunt you if you kill it
Competitive: This might force a switch on sweepers, especially the ones holding a Life Orb. Can be pretty useful when you think you got 6-0ed.

Edit: forgot to mention, but I prefer Ghoul King's Dread Plate because an unTauntable Taunt is interesting, I guess.

Increases the holder's Defense every time they are hit with an attack. (Does not trigger multiple times for multi-hit moves) (by Ghoul King)
That's a different entry for an earlier round. This was "the holder's contact moves raise the holder's Attack one stage when successful".

This strikes me as a really bad idea, since it takes away the thing that makes Destiny Bond merely obnoxious, rather than blatantly bull. That's sixteen turns in which a straight offense guy can't do anything to you while you setup or chip them down or whatever. That's nutty! (At least the only trapper that gets Destiny Bond is Mega Gengar, and it can't hold this)

I overall prefer my own Dread Plate, as lowering Speed is kind of interesting but other than the effect on Dark Arceus I suspect it wouldn't be run particularly. Un-Tauntable Taunt is something people will run, no question about it.

Mind Plate: The holder's Psychic type moves ignore increases in the enemy's Defense and Special Defense.
Flavor: What is armor to the power of the mind?
Competitive: Offensive Unaware for almost anything with a Psychic move/gives more of a niche to Psychic moves than just "is STAB".

Twisted Spoon: The holder's Kinesis move becomes an 80 BP Special Psychic move with +1 Priority.
Flavor: Kinesis is literally Kadabra/Alakazam bending a spoon with its mind, and this... somehow... lowers the target's Accuracy. Here it instead attacks the enemy! Somehow!
Competitive: One of Alakazam's main problems is that it completely lacks priority and thus has no answer to enemy priority. Nonetheless, simply turning Kinesis into a "regular" priority move (ie 40 BP) is far too little payoff for eating your item slot, so I went with making it into an unusually strong priority move. Note that this only affects Kadabra, Alazakam, and Smeargle, as no other Pokemon can get Kinesis.

Odd Incense: If held by Mr. Mime or Mime Jr, the holder's Defense and Special Defense increase by 50%.
Flavor: Mr. Mime uses incense to... make its imaginary psychic walls more real or something I dunno.
Competitive: MR. WALL.

Destiny Knot: If the holder is targeted with U-Turn, Volt Switch, or Parting Shot, the move fails and the opposing Pokemon loses 1/16th of its HP.
Flavor: I CANNOT LEAVE MY LOVE! (Or whoever this stranger is)
Competitive: Tired of U-Turn spam keeping the enemy one step ahead of you and chipping you incessantly? No more!

OK s i have had time to think about i prefer Ghoulkings dread plate submission becuase Arceus needs Stab priority taunt Speed. Inshort i like the type change
Edit: what do you guys think of a rock slate next?

the someone's reasoning for this weeks slate
Mind Plate: The holder is immune against Status or Ability-induced Confusion, Embargo, Encore, Heal Block, Infatuation, Disable, Taunt and Torment.
Flavor: God's mental rock gives the holder an unwavering mind.
Competitive Flavor: Anything that could use Mental Herb can now abuse this item, like Reuniclus or Ninjask.
Twisted Spoon: If the holder is Psychic, it's offensive moves are calculated with the highest offensive stat and the opponent's defense for that move. (example for clarification: Gallade's Draining Kiss is calculated with it's attack and the target's Sp Def)
Flavor: Sometimes you use your mind, sometimes you use your spoon, but why not use your mind on your spoon to catapult strong physical attacks?
Competitive Flavor: Pretty much doubles any Psychic type's useful movepool. Something like Alakazam doesn't get walled by Blissey if it has Drain or Focus Punch. Most Psychic legendaries, which are mixed attackers (or have the stats of one, like Jirachi), can focus on one stat and deal even more damage.
Odd Incense: If the holder is Psychic type, it's Psychic moves are super effective against Dark, Psychic and Steel types, but it takes super-effective damage from Fighting and Psychic attacks.
Flavor: ...Odd. (What can I say?)
Competitive Flavor: Psychic type becomes even more hyper offensive. Nothing switches in safely. Great for speedy Psychic types.
Destiny Knot: When the holder switches out, stat boosts are transferred to the Pokemon switching in.
Flavor: Stat boosts are related to stats, like IVs, which the Destiny Knot passes down.
Competitive Flavor: Baton Pass: the item.

my opinions on items and stuff
The razor claw was made for weavile and can give some neat options to other speedy pokemon, most relivent is the lack of a stat drop if you hit with a crit s noivern and latios can now hit very hard with draco meteor, as for breaking ubers look out for deoxys with extreem speed and psyco boost. I could see overheat on blaziken and Infernape, leaf storm on sceptile, over all it is primarily an anti defensive set up tool(I could see Salamence using it as well in conjunction with baton pass
razor fang
This item may be a little broken in conjunction with certain things but it might not be, i am not sure

Are there any new possible strategies/sets that can be made with the last week's items?
Assuming my entry won (There's no contrary opinions in-thread, so I'm reasonably confident on this) the Dread Plate now means that you have an un-Tauntable Taunt on literally any Pokemon that can use TMs. Huzzah! Also makes Knock Off super spammable, even more so than it already is.

I suspect the Black Glasses will be relatively niche, but if nothing else Pokemon lacking Knock Off might run it just to make up for their innate lack. It's particularly notable to those Dark types that lean Special, though, since it means they get the utility of Knock Off without having to run mixed, even aside from those lacking Knock Off.

The Razor Claw is of course amazing on any fast Pokemon, but also priority abusers (Maybe Kecleon will run it, being Protean Fake Out/Shadow Sneak/Sucker Punch?), and as pointed out by Tarontos makes faster Draco Meteor nukes much more spammable, as well as other moves of that sort, including a mini-niche of making Superpower slightly less terrible if you're fighting a Special attacker/very passive wall anyway. It might actually replace the Life Orb as the default "fast fragile attacker" item.

The Razor Fang is of course great on bulky attackers/Physical attackers lacking boosting, but here's food for thought: it makes Fake Out a free +1 if the enemy stays in and takes it!
