Official NBA 2010-11 Season Thread

Every time I watch the Heat it really looks like Cleveland from last year. They play isolation and pick and roll. That's it. It's a very flat offense. The only time they look exciting is in transition, but so does everyone else with talented teams. There will be a coaching change at some point, whether it's in the near future or after the season.

They were overrated the second LeBron said they'd win 8 straight titles
I no longer can take John Hollingers Power rankings seriously after week 1.... Heat #1, Rockets and some other incredibly bad team in the top 10... I couldnt help but lol at how dumb he looks right now

By the way, doesnt this sound a lot like Mike Browns philosophy? A pretty good defensive team that just doesnt have a real offense... Pat Riley will definitely try to take over this team half way through, I can see it now

One thing is for sure, the Heat will have the same fate as the Cavs if there is no change. It's incredible the disparity in ball move from their last two games. Utah and Boston moved the ball around so well and carved them up. If their defense isn't top notch, they will lose. Notice how they stood no chance in their last two games as soon as the score was run up over 100.

It really is like the Cavs... They can blow out bad teams by 20-30 due to their talent but when they play complete teams with a good PG or frontline they just go to work on the Heat... It just seems crazy that people actually had this team challenging the Bulls 72-10 record... Yet nobody even stops and looks at teams like the Hornets or Lakers that are yet to lose... Its sad what ESPN has become, they will continue to cover the Heat no matter how many times they lose

It values margin and strength of schedule. Heat had by far the strongest strength of schedule and a huge margin. It is not a human ranking system, he does not look stupid at all. Even if it is flawed, he can keep on trumping up that "Spurs won!" bit ad nauseum.

Then it is by far the two worst values and still makes him look rather, and to be blatant, dumb... Rockets were 1-5.. They couldve played the Heat Celtics and Lakers twice each and I still wouldnt take it seriously that they were in the top 10. Throw in that he had the Spurs outta the top 10 and had the Suns also in the top 10 and you are looking at a rather flawed system

And if you go by his system, the Suns have had "by far the hardest strength of schedule"...

There is such a small sample of games to pull those numbers from. As the season goes on, the list will slowly become more accurate. At least as accurate as it can be. The Heat were blowing teams out for consecutive games. It's no surprise they were #1.

Its rather unfair to compare the two... John Wall is a more capable player of achieving a triple double due to his size, and well he also does have the potential to be pretty good and possibly better than D rose in a few years... I noticed nobody mentioned SAT's taken by both players because im sure its 0 for both!

fwiw wall had a 3.5 at kentucky (emphasis on the fwiw part, seeing who the coach there is)

also lolbosh

The Heat are great at one thing; playing completely shitty basketball and still being in the game down the stretch somehow. I looked at the score down the stretch in the 4th quarter and it boggled my mind that they were still in it. Granted they lost, but when your starters are 0-10 from 3 and Ray Allen is 7-9 from 3...

Also lol at Dwayne Wade, 2-12 with 8 points (and six turnovers). Lebron was 1 assist from a second consecutive triple double. Anyone still think this is Dwade's team?

How 'bout them Bulls/Nuggets? Injury riddled teams going to town.

They actually didn't play all that bad. It was just LeBron, Haslem, and House.

They lost the same reason they lost the first game.

They won't beat the Boston Celtics with their current team. You can't really give excuses for this just yet. Even if they win the next match-up (which I expect), they are just jumpshooters and LeBron and Wade can't beat tough defenses together.

Wade and LeBron are terrible three point shooters. I am not sure why they ever thought Bosh+Wade+LeBron was going to work when they all need their points in nearly the same ways. The defense has been good, which is why they are in the games.

It's funny if you look at the box score comparing Ray Allen to LeBron James. They both had 35 points, but how efficiently they got them is another story.

FGM-A: 13-23 | 9-21
3PM-A: 7-9 | 0-5
FTM-A: 2-2 | 17-22

If you shoot 41 FTs as a team you will be in any game.

33% from 3 isn't "terrible". To add some context, Ray Allen shot 36% from 3 last year.
Ray Allen is like 40 years old.... And yes, Numbers can be deceiving... Neither are strong 3 point shooters no matter what they shot last year, and both of them will never kill a team from the outside that isnt their game

No they did play THAT BAD. This was a game where Miami needed to make a statement, especially after losing to Utah the way they did, that they were tough enough to compete in this league. They folded in the first half and the only reason they were even remotely close at the end of the game was because LeBron was getting to the line like the fist of the north star.

SPEAKING OF LEBRON, this guy had the audacity to say after the game 44 minutes of play time was "too much for him". WHAAAAAAAAAT!?
This is one of your main rivals coming to YOUR house. YOU'RE the ones with all the pressure and the most riding on this game and you can't take the team on your back let alone lead by example!? You're not 30, you're fucking 25 years old, how the fuck are you complaining about minutes!?

I thought that through all what happened this offseason, LeBron was going to change his ways, say F-U to all his doubters and become a leader. I guess he figured accountability wasn't apart of the equation.

And did anyone see DWade's face last night? It's like he's slowly realizing LeBron is actually a huge selfish (BAN ME PLEASE) and Bosh is bitch. We're all in the same boat Wade (although you were the one to pull the disappearing act last night).

This is a mediocre team. Fuck this team is worse than last year's Heat. What they lacked in talent, they made up in execution and heart. All he needed was some offensive help. Instead he got a headache trying to take over his team and a 6'10 Houdini.

Hero... This is just the immaturity of Lebron at its fullest...

I dont understand how you can form a team like this and already be looking for excuses as to why you lost... They have to realize that they are exactly like Notre Dame... EVERY team, no matter how bad is going to play you like its the NBA Finals (and I know im comparing two different sports but the point still is relevant).

Anyway I wouldnt say this team is mediocre yet, they can compete.. But its becoming more clear that they cannot run with any complete teams in the NBA for 48 minutes... They did stomp the Magic, but the Celtics have had their number both times so far. Along with that, Jim Rome put it best today:"This team is a worse version of the Cavaliers last year"... Besides a few spot up shooters this team has absolutely no bench and Mike Miller wont exactly rapidly improve that.

I just still find it crazy people really thought this team could win 70+ games this year... I really dont think its possible in this era since every team can compete even if it seems like they cant...

The only reason the Magic lost is because they didn't contain Miami's fast break opportunities in the 3rd quarter. Miami will kill you in the transition game, they were able to get to the basket at will and then when Orlando started clogging the lane they would just dish out to a wide open jump shooter. Other teams saw that and realized that the way to hamper Miami is to force them to play half court which is what Boston did for both games.

I think most people knew that before facing them anyway.

There's a difference between not doing it and not knowing.

Did they play "bad" relative to the team they were facing? Yes. Did they play better than their first match-up relatively speaking? Yes. Obviously. They scored more points. They just played worse defense.

Thus, the "they played bad but was still close!" is a terrible mentality to go by regardless of which team you think is better. They said that last time as well. As long as Boston goes by this strategy, they'll win big or small; and the playoffs don't care which.

44 minutes is too much for anyone. Even LeBron. Nobody is going to play that long on a day to day and not lose some efficiency on the floor (that would explain a lot of missed threes).

This is a mediocre team. Fuck this team is worse than last year's Heat.
I wouldn't go that far =p

Lebron only shoots 33% on threes but felt the need to attempt THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY SEVEN. Relax Phizzlax, the guy is a fucking egotistical moron like most NBA players. They all want to shoot threes in order to "be the man", regardless of whether they can do so well or not.

Wade was the one who terrible applied to much more, who has shot in his entire career:
30%, 29%, 18%, 27%, 29% (mostly small sample sizes, since he realized that heis terrible) 32% with 278 attempts (oops he caught the bug), 30% with 243 attempts (reaching Ben wallace levels here).

Ray Allen shot 36% last year and about 40% the two years before. Please do not use 1) a completely asinine comparison (36% is good, 33% is bad) 2) one that is completely wrong, Ray Allen is incomparably better at three point shooting than LeBron, and his threes fell last season because of things like injuries/luck, not being terrible at it.

I just still find it crazy people really thought this team could win 70+ games this year... I really dont think its possible in this era since every team can compete even if it seems like they cant...

I said all along that LeBron to the Bulls was by far the best scenario. Although who knows, this team could finally understand the need for someone to concede and do well. It just did not really make sense to make a team like this from the start though, you cannot spend all your money on three players.
