I found a battle between Shoe and OmegaDonut. Great battle too. Just search for double cup videos- MattJ has a ton up as well.

Ok, well, for those of you who are lazy(like me, though this kind of contradicts itself), I went and wrote down a bunch of battle codes from Worlds that I instantly recognized as being from San Diego. Here they are:

52-66456-36417
56-38280-33611
50-16768-78928
98-68466-69859
92-08553-76814
91-83735-88131
36-03894-05640
78-50402-55971
69-36127-38910
66-52221-00776
98-68466-69939
13-19664-87094

The first two are mine against mysteryman and mattj I think(I got haxed pretty bad >_>, but still won IIRC), and the rest are either Japanese or smogon battlers.

Hey guys! 13th place wohoo! I'm happy considering it was my first time participating. I had a lot of fun and it was great meeting some of you.

I'll add to what everyone else was saying about the matches that day. Mine were full of haxes too, for my opponent and myself, haha. I had more rock slide flinches that day than all my other matches combined, ever. And I faced two hail teams and I had at least one pokemon freeze each match, what a head-banger. I also faced a pretty standard rain team and a team very much resembling Molf's Lvl 50 Smeargle/Mismagus team. He spammed swagger every match, ugh!

But my best match that day was my 5th match against Marcel. Every match came down to the last move and I barely scraped by a win 2-1. I wish I saved the last match, in which he had tricked choice scarf onto Dusknoir, and then later in the match I ran out of rock slides against Zapdos's pressure, and dusknoir spent the last 3 turns of the match struggling :). The one I ended up saving I had to because it was absolutely hilarious. the battle video is 43-13911-14289. His Latios tricks Chilan berry from my Togekiss, and later in the match my Metagross is burned the turn it explodes, so Latios actually survives the explosion taking only about 35-40% damage :P. We also had about half a dozen flinches and paralyzes that match, as well as Infernape being frozen the same turn it uses Flare Blitz. We were laughing our asses off the whole match.

For anyone that says that we didn't stand a chance against the Japanese:

They're not "out of our league" or anything like that. OmegaDonut, IPL, sixonesix and I were getting haxed to no end all day. If anyone can think of a way to defend against crits, freezes, and fully paralyzes, then by all means please let us know. It would be greatly appreciated.

Battle Armor, Magic Guard, Safeguard and Lucky Chant.

I am the father of Josh Ferris, placed 12th at the just completed Worlds.

I would like to thank all you guys in the senior division, for taking the time to talk, battle and give pointers with juniors this season.

Josh had a great time, you guys do not realize what a great example to the juniors you are.

Keep it up.

And I agree with batpig, 10 critical hits in a best 2 out of three? (happend to Josh)

Well, Relicanth gets Safeguard!

Real quick. Just got back. Tons of videos (though PBB pointed out most) tons of pics and details. Will post warstory....yeah later :p

Tons of fun! KYAAAAAAAAA! XD

Just so you know how the whole tournament went...

Turn 5: Crit hit on Grace
Turn 6: Crit hit on Grace, Grace Freezes his Toxicroak
Turn 7: Toxicroak defrosts on 1st turn and lands a 3rd Crit hit in a row.

What the Heck?

It just kept happening.

[edit]
not that that's any excuse for not winning. I firmly believe that hax goes both ways. Sometimes it helps you. Sometimes it hurts you. Oh well. It does make for an exciting show though in my opinion! XD

Thomas, those comments about Steven and Grace are out of line. I think they both played very well!

If there was one difference I noticed between the Japanese and American players, it was that the Japanese never trashed other players, gaijin or not. Over dinner and during practice battles, they had nothing but good things to say about Steven and Grace.

@halordain = Then you need to explain to me why you had to go sit in the back of the room while Grace played; if you want to do it via PM that's fine. I heard that from quite a few people, alakapimp was one of them IIRC, that that is what happened. Now, ultimately I didn't physically see this, so if you want to you can call me out on now having 'proof' and the only thing I respond to that is touche, but I trust the people that have told me these things and I really have no reason to doubt them unless you can provide something that solidly proves otherwise. Also, please use my internet name when referencing me on the internet. ;/

and cybertron, that's not really bashing, I just told it like I saw/heard it.

It was fairly obvious hal, you can try to defend your actions, but when you are talking about it and then waving your hands around like a maniac you can't claim it didn't happen

well since I've gone ahead and posted i might as well say a few other things

I played in the card game last chance qualifier on thursday and went 3-5 (i was 3-3 and if i had won my last two i would have been in worlds a second time :P) I had to forfeit one of my matches to go register for vgc which was quite annoying but had to be done, when I registered marriland checked my game to prevent another 511 meta incident and I talked to Mike so dispel a few rumors here are the facts

1. That is exactly what the board is, the list of pokes the Japenese are allowing in next year

2. Mike has stated that he doesn't want it to turn to kyogre spam and would like all tournaments played under his domain to be this years rules or close to

3. He said that in the card game the Japenese play differently but are forced to play with US rules when they come here

so yeah thats all we know so far, but hopefully we won't be seeing any kyogres next year

Now as for my matches, my first was against the worlds runner up with yanmega which I lost not really due to any bad luck but just my inability to kill rhyperior. My second was against a german who made some ballsy predictions that I thought about but just decided were too ballsy but they worked out for him and he won. My third was against Drug_Duck, that match was horrible, game one he double flinches me with rockslide to win. Game two I had low health infernape against full health garchomp and needed a crit to win, and got that crit. Game three was absolutely full of hax but I managed to come out ahead. My next game was against fly aero kid, who was still running a team that with superhax still couldn't kill one of sixonesix's pokemon so I won it easily, but that actually dropped my placing from 17 to 18. My last was against another Japenese guy at 2-2. Game one he brought rain and managed to outlast my zapdos with snorlax. Game two he shifted his team around with subs to turn it into TR but because of his lack of a follow me'er I was able to taunt and win the game from there. Game three he brought rain again and I thrashed him not even taking damage until I had killed both his leads and put his snorlax at 50%. The next turn he fire punches my gengar to break the sash he thinks it has while dragon pulsing my garchomp with lo kingdra for the presumed 0hko, only problem was I moved the sash to garchomp and eq'd to kill kingdra and then killled snorlax before talking anymore damage, 4-0 final battle ftw.

The 3-2 record that I shared with 6th-16th place, in system that needs to be revamped, brought me to 12th place in the world, wouldn't be dissapointed if it weren't for the specific people above me and the fact that I know I can beat them.

The next day I played in the league play with ipl all day picking up some crazy prizes which I then turned around and sold with some of the stuff from my competitor bag for $250+. That night we played some melee and brawl during which I even won a game by kirby stalling and then going 3 lives to 1 against vash and getting lucky and him walking off the map so that I won. And that brings me to today sitting in my hotel room typing this so yeah the end of the longest non op post ive ever made, so to anyone still reading this,WTF.

OMG smogon gossip!!!! Wow now i really wish i went to worlds!!! Oh and i cant wait to see that battle where shedinja got a critical hit and won the game!!! I just have to see that!
@ PBB, did you record the match where everyone got nuts over?

Just posted a Facebook album of my photos.

I don't know how, but I forgot to save the video of my match with Takahiro Akai, the Japanese national champion. But here's the log:

I sent out Infernape and Metagross!
Akai sent out Ludicolo and Jolteon!
Infernape used Fake Out!
Ludicolo used Fake Out!
Jolteon flinched!
Metagross flinched!
----
Ludicolo used Protect!
Infernape used Feint! Ludicolo fell for the feint!
Metagross used Explosion! (Thanks, whoever suggested Jolly to outspeed Jolteon!)
Jolteon fainted!
Ludicolo fainted!
Metagross fainted!
Infernape hung on using its Focus Sash!
----
Akai sent out Kingdra and Metagross!
I sent out Togekiss!
I withdrew Infernape and sent out Cresselia!
Metagross used Protect!
Kingdra used Surf! (And took 10% Life Orb damage.)
Togekiss used Encore! Kingdra got an Encore!
----
Kingdra used Surf! (And took 10% Life Orb damage.)
Togekiss used Encore! Metagross got an Encore!
Cresselia used Calm Mind!

Aaaaaand it all went downhill for him from there.

@viperGTS = unfortunately, no, but I know several other people were recording it. You and I should do some youtube searching to find it, it was truly epic.

@omegadonut = lol yeah, I was watching the battle from his side. When you used Encore on Metagross' Protect, he just looked at me with that look of "oh shit" and we both laughed because he knew he would probably lose. Good times.

On a side note, here's the picture of the smogoners present. I'll name the people off and if you don't want your screen name attached to a face, just let me know and I'll edit you out.

Zog you are completely spot on with such like Serebii. He didn't even put it on news upon several requests from members via email and hence a missed opportunity of interest from probably one of the biggest active Pokémon Communities on the planet.

I didn't like the european championships thing which I thought about back in april because it simply would be too much work for them. All the different languages which note we're not even at worlds for yet. I can see the idea as your grabbing more players in a way through that but here is something, what would they be playing for?. No offence but the World Championships means to grab all kinds of nationalities, not make it a inter-continental showdown (man I made that sound awesome :P) for America vs Europe vs Asia vs Oceania.

In my opinion I hope they make for 2010 a nationals for Australia, Spain, Italy and Canada. They need it.

I would want regionals for the UK, but a part of me thinks they won't because then they'd have to deem the same for germany and france and I am not sure if they would to be frank. They could get away with doing like Cardiff, Edinburgh, Dublin and Birmingham so like the Welsh, Scottish, Northern Irish and English Tournaments if you get me and then play at London for the British National Championships.

It's all so complicated, I just wish they'd give us more events on it as like TCG gets and also make it more aware in the UK as some communities holders just cannot be asked to tell trainers who would give a damn about it; about it.

Ha! I was way up the street eating pizza at the time! XD

I just wanted to post a thank you to all who competed for a great tournament. I’m Glenn Arnold (aka old guy). I’ve been lurking here for a while, so it was nice to match some names to faces. During this process I had a chance to compete against slimceagirl, imperfectluck, PremiumVerumFatum and batpig. Those matches were all excellent and I enjoyed meeting each of you. I have to admit that the reputation of smogon players (elitist) had kept me away from posting, but after meeting some of you, I plan on staying active on smogon. The strategy discussions here were very helpful in team building and I hope I can add to the conversation in the future.
