Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Boss man has broken into the top 30 average draft prices! They were like 110th before their average draft price went up 5.9k thanks to the last mock. Tea Guzzler's average went up by 2.6k. Other than that, there really weren't that many noteworthy changes considering this was an AFD edition of a mock draft.
But here's the top 10 average mock draft prices after the 16th (and hopefully final) mock draft. Be on the look out for more fun mock draft vs real draft comparisons after the draft happens tomorrow!
Last time I ranked these teams, it was on the strength of their managers, and their predicted draft outcomes, as well as the all-important factor of their team names and potential custom avatar. Since I've already done that, however, this time I'll have to consider more minor and pedestrian matters like player lineup to refrain from simply retreading old ground.
E: Updated Honey Linoones somewhat more positively and a few minor lu changes to reflect additional information given.
S Rank
Tyrantrums are the obvious winners of the draft, and their victory is assured. You might as well enter their win into the OM hall of fame rn to save yourself time later.
A Rank
Spinda Wheels. Going into the draft, their manager pair made them a leading contender to win, and those hopes have been borne out in a very solid draft. While not all of their slots are at the top of their pools, none of them give up free wins either, and when you have a foundation this solid, having that in the other slots will usually be enough. Their AAA slot has the potential to be the best in pool, and 2v2, AG, and whichever tier stresh ends up playing should be able to regularly rake in wins as well. A few of the metagames are short on support and mainers, but with In The Hills and stresh on the team the downsides of that are seriously ameliorated.
Wiggly Family. At this point, I feel almost like I should be making this an AAA pr, because the quality of the draft seems to track pretty closely with the potential in that tier. While the wigglies went a bit less in on big names than the spindas, between the managers and the players drafted they managed to fill every slot with a solid player and some support to help them along. Of particular note are the 2v2, AAA, and NFE slots which have the potential to do extremely well this tour, but even the weaker parts of the lineup are more untested than poor.
B Rank
Honey Linoones. The Honey Linoones is a draft that falls just short of A rank. STABmons and Godly Gift both look to be extremely dangerous against this team, and with the assistance of managers the AAA and MnM slots have the potential to do the same. PDT is an excellent AG player who could carry the slot with the right teams, so while there's some variance there it's an overall bright spot for the draft. The lineups for NFE, BH, and 2v2 aren't neccesarily bad, but in terms of starpower or building support they don't stand out either, which puts them a half step below the overall solidity of the higher ranked teams.
Hammered Hawluchas. The Hawluchas aren't quite as strong in their strengths as the Linoones, but their weaknesses are also less pressing. Where the Linoone BH slot is extremely sketchy, the Hawluchas have TTTech, and while his builds can be somewhat one dimensional, he has a proven record of performance. AG, GG, 2v2 and STABmons are all slots that look likely to end up going positive, giving the Hawluchas a solid framework to build on each week, and with support from Astralydia the MnM and AAA slots should be able to remain largely competitive with the pool. NFE is a bit of a wild card for me, as I'm not the most familiar with Mirbro's work, but I am assured they are capable of building for themselves and know how to play, so we'll see how that turns out.
C Rank
Larping Lopunnies. This team is the best in C tier, but falls a little short of matching the teams in B rank just above them. All of the players here have the potential to go positive, but making sure that happens in the right weeks to translate into wins is going to be tough, and while it's got solid breadth it's depth leaves much to be desired. Most metagames don't have too much in the way of support to solidify their performance, which the managers will have a hard time fixing, and that also extends to subs should they end up needing a replacement in a given week.
2v2: Mubs
AAA: The Number Man
AG: Lotiasite
BH: Cityscapes
GG: Lepton
MnM: Jordy (Derpyboi)
NFE: King Leo V (Lepton)
STAB: pannuracotta
Malding Mavericks. Aside from them deciding to recreate the fateful (and much lamented, especially by redflix) TectFlix MnM core, nothing about this draft is too bad. The problem is, there doesn't seem to be quite enough going for it. The 2v2 slot is very strong, with a strong player supported by 2 excellent managers, but the competition there will be stiff. Both BH and STAB can be expected to go positive, but they can't guarentee the win, and the reliance on beauts is a very unfortunate sign. Since they don't have another NFE player, Beauts can't fix the problems this lineup has with MnM reliably, and expecting starter level performance out of a player that wanted to support is a tough ask even for someone with their level of skill. AG, AAA, and GG won't go uncontested, but they're quite unlikely to be able to carry the lineup the way this team needs them to
Uh-Oh Kommo-Os. With the other C rank teams, it's hard to point to a single mistake in the draft as defining; there might be an obvious error or two, but nothing that would damn a team with an otherwise solid lineup. Not so for the Kommo-Os. For some reason, they decided they needed to have a team with 6 bh players, an astonishing number considering both managers can build the tier. Some, like Ballfire and the manager Sevag are capable of playing or supporting other tiers, but most are not, or have not done so in the past. Aside from BH, the AAA and 2v2 slots both look solid, but the latter is tough to have confidence in given that 2v2 is probably the toughest pool in the tour. If the BH overkill can guarentee a win each week, then a good performance from the rest of the team might be able to get this team somewhere, but the other BH cores aren't exactly weak and some of these slots look very sketchy as starters.
S Chris + Morgan + IBM + Crunchman (Mavericks) Chris Numbers is insane and with me we build the nuttiest stuff ever. 4 person super unit. Blanched + Stable (Wiggly Family) Blanched + Stable is one of the things I did not want happening this draft but it did, and not on my team :(.
A Papiloco + Potatochan (Tyrantrums) I am going to help Papiloco build. Potatochan is good. Adam (Linoones) Adam is cracked beyond belief, but no support for him is not really an L
B Vrji (Hawluchas) Vrji is a solidly consistent player and good builder, but lack of build assistance makes him only B tier. Zioziotrip (Lopunnies) Probably gets Stable teams Ngl Reece + Itchy (Kommo-os) Reece has good knowledge of the metagame and solid clicking ability. Itchy has all of my teams.
C London + Krytocon + BerryAlcremie (Spindas) While London is good at old gens, he is not proven/consistent in gen8 2v2. They will likely get swept up by the stronger builders on most teams. Krytocon hasn’t played in too long. Berry Alcremie will have to do some very heavy lifting.
