Sticky Orange Islands SQSA Thread

The most efficient way would be the following one:

1) Start with Bulbasaur.
2) Use the blackout variation of the Ditto Glitch in Viridian Forest to get a Level 1 Pokémon of the Medium-Slow experience group, then do one battle with it. This way you can get a Level 100 Pokémon to roll past everything.
3) Get to Pewter City, and use the Brock Skip Glitch to walk through walls and arrive to Celadon City. Make sure you don't get out of bounds in the process. Once you get to Celadon, get into any building.
4) Get a drink and skip the guards.
5) Go to Cerulean City and get an Abra. (Alternatively, you can use the Brock Skip Glitch, get an Abra, return to Pewter City, and do the glitch again to go to Celadon)
6) Use the Ditto Glitch to remove the Snorlax south of Lavender Town (that's what the Abra's for).

With this, you have a significant portion of the game unlocked, with no badges at all.

By this point you can safely get the Super Rod, fish the Poliwhirl and trade it for a Jynx.
Isn't the abra in Celadon (with the game corner), not Cerulean?

Feel like if you're going ot break out the bigger glitches its like...surely there's a combination of them that just gets you a jynx without having to get a super rod in the first place

Maybe, but there seems to be no other access to Jynx that is quicker.

It has an index of 72, and the only trainer in which you can Ditto Glitch for Jynx is in Cinnabar Island. Also, by the time you can encounter Ditto, you're already next to Fuchsia.

Jynx has a relatively high index number of 72, so trainer escaping directly into an encounter with it doesn't seem that easy from a fresh save file, poliwag is not much better at 71, and poliwhirl is all the way at 110. Neither Jynx nor anything in the poliwag line are possible to get from the old man glitch or by doing a similar thing with the safari zone and route 20. You'd probably need to break the game wide open with item underflow, and by that point it's easier to just warp to where the rod is.

Thank you! Though that’s a tad too complex for me and I’m already in Cerulean with Charmeleon anyway lol. I’ll just try the PokéDoll one and see how I go!!

Revelation:
Out of curiosity, do you have Blue/Yellow/another Red version and capable of trading between versions? If so, I'd say if you want to start out with a Jynx just play the other games to the point you can get one and trade it over. Only thing to keep in mind is that the lowest level you can get the Jynx at is Level 23 (or 15 if you catch a Level 15 Poliwhirl from Route 22 in Yellow) so you'd need the Cascade Badge but from there you should be good to use it.

Or if you know how you can just hack a Jynx.

I don’t! Would’ve been ideal otherwise though!

This article says that you can get a Ducklett in Nacrene City by telling a certain person that you chose Oshawott, but Bulbapedia and Serebii both agree that you can't find a Ducklett in Nacrene City. So which article is right?

that's not what it says

article said:
As a Ducklett, it will rely heavily on Mystic Water for damage output. One can be obtained from Nacrene City for saying you picked Oshawott (even if you didn't) before Surf.

article is referring to Mystic Water, which is in fact obtainable in Nacrene City (that's also why this isn't under the availability section but in additional comments)

could be worded better I suppose

So this dude uploaded a baller compilation of remixed tracks. Cool and all but I wanna know...

1. Did OP make them?

2. Are they available individually? Mainly looking for uploads of the Dialga's Fight to the Finish remix at 32:04 and the Zinnia's theme remix at 52:56

Experimenting with google translate and clickon various links this seems to be the official channel for the doujin circle (NGC Records) and this seemed to compile three of their albums which are linked at the bottom of the descriptoin: https://ngcrecords.booth.pm/

The description outlines which songs are from which album by the little SA (Star Assault), BB (Brave Bird), or PG (Photon Geyser)

according to bulbapedia and serebii, if you beat youngster joey, he will hand you a hp up ''every rematch''. however, i can confirm i've fought him four to five times (he had a raticate in the l20s the last time i fought him) and yet he didn't give me a hp up. is this item only unlocked on even higher level rematches or is it just some thing that happens randomly? alternatively, is this only exclusive to gold and silver (i'm playing crystal) for some reason and those sites just didn't know or mention that?

i also learned that you can, contrary to popular belief, call for a rematch yourself in crystal - albeit it is very time and likely character dependent. in youngster joey's case, i called him during the daytime on monday (a video by crystal on youtube showed me the way) and he basically told me he's ready for a rematch. however, when i rematched him the first two times - including once using this method - his rattata was indistinguishable from the very first time i fought him, still being at level four.

only on my third rematch with youngster joey (this time he called) did his rattata finally level up to l15. no hp up, but at least his rattata grew. on his fifth, he got raticate.

i'm interested in learning and seeing if others have done any research on this or are willing to help me do so. it would be great to find out what triggers npcs like joey coughing up useful items and what exactly (if anything) triggers rematches at increased levels.

edit: mods, i apologize for posting this thread in the wrong section. i'd highly appreciate if you could move it somewhere appropriate.

Okay so this has been on my mind for a bit, but does anyone have the slightest clue as to what the requirements are for certain Vs. Seeker Trainers in DPP to level up to 55+? I've rematched every single Trainer that can level-up their Pokemon in the game at every conceivable point until now, and aside from battling them a certain number of times, I know there are story requirements for Trainers to level up to a certain range, which are:

18-early 20's: As soon as you get the Vs. Seeker
High 20's-low-30's: After beating Fantina (DP)/Wake (Platinum)
High 30's-Low 40's: After Mt. Coronet (defeating Team Galactic and catching Dialga/Palkia/Giratina)
50-55: Post-game (Defeat the E4 and Cynthia once)
56-60+: ???

The last requirement is what I'm trying to figure out: the Trainers above Level 56 and into the 60's who have teams at those levels for their final rematches. I've defeated the Elite Four five times so far in Diamond in particular, did both of Buck's and Marley's little quest, and did everything in the Battle Zone, and visited the Pal Park. but those Trainers still haven't leveled up their team when I attempt to Vs. Seeker them. I really have no idea what I have to do aside from maybe beating the Elite Four even more times.

If it's not just beating the VS Seeker trainers a certain number of times, It might actually be beating the E4 more times and I say this because there is one thing tied to beating them multiple times and that's Barry. In DP beating the e4 twenty (20!) times will raise his post-game battles levels by 10; in Platinum he goes up by 10 each when you beat the e4 10 and 20 times

The final round of VS teams might be tied to Barry as well

Rematch team improvements are dependent on reaching certain plot flags and fighting the previous rematch team (if any). This wiki link from the pokecrystal disassembly talks about the system a bit, and we can also see how it works for ourselves with the disassembly.

For example, let's look at Joey's rematches in Route30.asm.
Code:
.Rematch:
    scall .RematchStd
    winlosstext YoungsterJoey1BeatenText, 0
    readmem wJoeyFightCount
    ifequal 4, .Fight4
    ifequal 3, .Fight3
    ifequal 2, .Fight2
    ifequal 1, .Fight1
    ifequal 0, .LoadFight0
.Fight4:
    checkevent EVENT_BEAT_ELITE_FOUR
    iftrue .LoadFight4
.Fight3:
    checkevent EVENT_CLEARED_RADIO_TOWER
    iftrue .LoadFight3
.Fight2:
    checkflag ENGINE_FLYPOINT_OLIVINE
    iftrue .LoadFight2
.Fight1:
    checkflag ENGINE_FLYPOINT_GOLDENROD
    iftrue .LoadFight1

So to get his first rematch team, you have to have reached Goldenrod. For the second rematch, you have to have reached Olivine and beaten his first rematch team, and so on.

Later on in the same file is the HP Up code, under "LoadFight4".
Code:
.LoadFight4:
    loadtrainer YOUNGSTER, JOEY5
    startbattle
    reloadmapafterbattle
    clearflag ENGINE_JOEY_READY_FOR_REMATCH
    checkevent EVENT_JOEY_HP_UP
    iftrue .GiveHPUp
    checkevent EVENT_GOT_HP_UP_FROM_JOEY
    iftrue .done
    scall .RematchGift
    verbosegiveitem HP_UP
    iffalse .PackFull
    setevent EVENT_GOT_HP_UP_FROM_JOEY
    sjump .NumberAccepted

Based on this, I assume that Youngster Joey will only give you an HP Up on the final rematch team.

Seriously, shoutouts to the disassembly and its documentation. Before viewing this thread I had no idea how this worked, and now I do after checking it out.

finally someone responded! thank you for that alone (to say nothing of this useful data).

the thing is, though, i was able to spark youngster joey's first rematch before ever setting foot in azalea - to say nothing of goldenrod. i do think knowing that the fourth rematch can yield a hp up is really cool, though i'm bummed you can't get it earlier when you need money more.

Did you mean first rematch or rematch team? What I meant is that rematch teams don't actually upgrade until you've fulfilled the requirements, so you end up just fighting the regular party, which sounds like what happened in your post with the level 4 Rattata.

i actually got the l15 team on my third rematch (as also stated in the op), and this was still before hitting goldenrod.

I've seen Pokemon/Items differ while they move around the screen after shooting there clouds, rarer Pokemon/items seem to be in small faster portals. I just wanted to know if anyone could confirm this mostly because I've Been confused with finding Togepi, most sources I've checked have said they've found them in blue levels but I haven't yet and I think it's mostly due to Pokemon rarity but i'm not sure, I wanted to know if my thinking process was correct to prove that I can find togepi in Blue levels

According to this video and Bulbapedia the size doesn't seem to matter.

In Colosseum and/or XD is it possible to get the TMs rewarded for winning in the various arenas/Mt. Battle multiple times?
I’m afraid not :( Technically yes, but it would involve resetting the game fresh every time you get the TM you need after trading it to your gameboy. If you do decide to farm like this, it’s certainly advisable to just trade a strong team back and forwards between your gameboy and Orre game too to speed up the process. Or I suppose since it’s a GameCube game you could just swap out the memory card!
