Penny Arcade Rape Controversy

The joke wasn't about rape. It was about World of Warcraft.

Totally on Penny Arcade's side here, and I don't read their comic or go to their conventions.

Whether or not the reference to rape was the actual punchline is totally irrelevant to every single point that has ever been made as to why the comic was offensive. I don't know how else to put it.

I swear I hadn't even given much attention to the rape mention until someone pointed it out to me lol. I guess I'm on the Internet for far too long.

How did this generate controversy... far worse things have been said/done on the internet.

this is pretty old and also very ridiculous. this really wasn't one of their worst comics, to be honest... not the funniest either, though it's pretty solid. EVERY MORNING WE ARE ROUSED BY SAVAGE BLOWS.
 
The problem is people trying to claim ownership of a word/idea and then taking offense when someone else uses that word/uses that word in a way they don't like. Like how it's okay for people of an ethnicity to say the slur for that group but it's wrong for everyone else. Also, people taking some imaginary moral high ground. "I represent the victims of rape, I'm fighting for the side of good you smut peddler!" Or, "It's satire, if you are offended you're a sissy!"

At the end of the day, I take more offense with the anti-rape side's actions. These people just lurk the internet looking for something to crusade about so they can win these imaginary battles and feel good about themselves while getting publicity for their stupid blogs.

I also am frightened by the boldness of your assertion that the "anti-rape side" (that is the most ill-conceived title ever by the way, given its implications of the other side of the argument) are just people "lurking the internet" or whatever. Penny Arcade is a fucking webcomic about video games.
 
The fuck is this shit? Worse stuff gets said in the PO chat and this forum. I'm not seeing the issue. I think the only reason there was any controversy was because the Penny Arcade guys were kind of dicks in responding to the criticism.
