Role Playing Approval Center (Update 5-12-13)

Just posting to say that I approve of Zarator's proposal. With a role playing experience based mostly on PvP, it makes sense that PvE would pop up. One thing I'm curious about, would each dungeon run constantly/simultaneously? Or would only one run at a time, then another one once the first is over, etc.

They would run simultaneously. Much like in common MMORPG, each group enters a separated instance of the raid. So, if group 1 and group 2 both signed up for Sky Pillar and they get my approval, each one will enter their specific version of the Sky Pillar, each one with a Rayquaza to defeat etc.

Hell yes Zarator. This is similar to an idea I had way back but its much more fleshed out.
"They will be allowed to heal their Pokémon between fights." Is this automatic or do they have to use items of some sort? What I think might be able to work is when you go into the raid, you get a certain number of points (differing depending on difficulty and the length of the raid) to spend on items to use in that raid only. Items like Potions, Full Heals and Revives are not currently in ASB battles (understandably) but I think these kinds of items would be useful for this kind of RP.
So basically, at the start of the raid, you stock up on your potions and stuff, then in between battles you can opt to use some of them to heal up your battle weary Pokemon, or not; but if you don't your Pokemon will still have the same health, energy(?) and any permanent statuses they had after the last battle.
Am I making sense? I often worry about the clarity of what I'm saying...

Also, are you open to other people reffing and perhaps creating their own raids? I for one have an idea I've been tinkering with for ages (before ASB started here actually... it was for something else but its easily adaptable.) There could probably be a staff system, with you on top naturally.

On an unrelated matter, now that some RPs are actually starting to open, I think it might be a good idea to put links to all currently active RPs somewhere, perhaps in the first post of this thread. There are a lot of threads in this forum and there's always a danger of things being lost amongst the sheer volume of it all. It also, of course, makes it easier to find particular RPs quickly rather than searching through pages of CAP ASB trying to find it.

Why not make a new subcategory for this sort of thing? That way, the Role Playing wouldn't clog up the Battle Forum.
...
I like the idea of raids. Text-based raiding systems DO work; Kingdom of Loathing seems to have a pretty successful one. I can't wait to see a Cerulean Cave raid! :D

One suggestion: the difficulty of bosses should be scaled to suit the number of people in the raiding party. This way, you can't swarm a boss to make it ridiculously easy, but you don't need a massive team to take it on. The problem then becomes how to offset the advantage of the raiding party in terms of numbers of attacks per turn. Maybe scale HP and Energy?

@Lord Jesseus: About potions and such, I don't know honestly. At the moment they're not even accessible, so I can't really ask for them. But it could be an idea for the future (although probably they would not be for in-battle use).

And about having assistants for the project, I'd say no for now. Only once the project gets approved and the entire thing starts I will consider taking an assistant or two, in case there are too many people in queue for raids.

EDIT: @Mewtwo: My initial idea was to have each raid assigned a certain number of people. For example, a raid list could look like this:

Viridian Forest (2 people)
Seafoam Islands (2 people)
Stark Mountain (3 people)

However, I'm also considering making several versions of the same raid (like a 2 people and a 3 people version of Viridian Forest), which is probably what will work best. For now, I'd probably only allow 2 or 3-men parties, but I could consider larger ones in the future. Obviously that's a long term thing, which is why I'm not thinking too much about it now. And yeah, probably the stat to vary depending on the size of the party will be HP (Energy will be infinite for bosses, so don't dream of stalling them out^^). And well, about the number of attacks parties can muster, that's the reason why bosses will have massive HP (especially ones with glaring weaknesses). After all, in the most difficult raids, people will be expected to prepare for it (in the Rayquaza example of before, I'll expect every Pokémon to pack an Ice, Dragon or Rock move, for example).

And one last thing. Actual raids will not be based on existing Pokémon places, but rather on fantasy based ones (if I manage to do so, I could even somehow make them based upon Alch's storyline). So expect much more threatening zones than Viridian Forest or Cerulean Cave!

nooo, people keep taking my ideas T.T

I love this idea, though there was pretty much no response when I asked about it on IRC; I'll be happy to participate and help if you need help.

Double Posting to make a suggestion of my own :D

The Battle Castle (format stolen from R_D)

The Battle Castle is a challenge you can accept in CAP ASB that combines role-playing and battling while honing your short-term and long-term planning skills! The Battle Castle will be a player vs. computer challenge for now, until everything is fleshed out. The Battle Castle uses a unique currency, Castle Points (abbreviated CP), which can be used to help you throughout your conquest of the castle as well as influencing your prize at the end!

Player Details:

  1. Up to three players may challenge the Battle Castle at any time. This number is subject to change based on my other obligations.
  2. Once you lose the challenge, you may not request to have yourself added onto the queue for a week. People who have challenged the Battle Castle less times than others will be given higher priority. These two rules will ensure that many different people will be given the opportunity to challenge the Castle. The queue will be updated regularly in the OP.
  3. Your campaign of the Castle cannot be terminated upon request. The campaign will continue until you finish the round, whether by defeating the Castle Valet or losing. Your streak will be kept as a record if you stop after one round and go battle; this way, you will be able to continue your campaign should you come back to the Castle.
  4. A campaign against the Battle Castle will take up one of your three battle slots in your profile. You may not use any of your Pokemon that are currently engaged in a battle to challenge the Castle, and you may not challenge the Castle with any other Pokemon currently RP'ing. To rephrase this rule, any Pokemon that is challenging the Battle Castle cannot participate in any other activity.
Battle Details:

  1. You must use the same team for the entire challenge. If you decide to switch teams, you will have to start over from Rank 1. Any version of your team that uses the same Pokemon or evolved versions of the Pokemon are allowed, however. This means that unlocking moves and abilities as well as evolutions will not affect your Rank.
  2. In order to clear the Challenge and advance one Rank, you must defeat three opponents and beat the Castle Valet. Failure to do so will results in being dropped back down to Rank 1. Your opponent will be chosen based on your Rank and progress. For example, your Rank 1 Match 3 battle will be more difficult than your Rank 1 Match 1 battle but easier than your Rank 2 Match 1 battle.
  3. Each of your opponents will be played by me. Each round in every match will also be played by me. In the event that I hire workers in the Battle Castle, each "me" in this rule can be replaced with "any of my workers". I sincerely hope that I can be trusted to not be biased.
  4. The Pokemon of the opponent will be randomly chosen based on your current Rank. The Pokemon of the Castle Valet at the end of each Rank will also randomized, though the pools will be quite different.
  5. Each Rank will be significantly harder than the previous one. The rewards should also be significantly greater.
Challenge Details:

  1. The Battle Castle is a unique Frontier, stressing planning and management. In the ASB rendition of the Battle Castle, you will also experience this. After each of your standard matches, you will be given a chance to heal your Pokemon and restore their Energy. However, doing so will cost CP (Castle Points), which is earned by winning battles. If you lose a Challenge, all CP gained in the match you lost in will be forfeited. All CP gained in previous Challenges and previous matches will be kept. Losing on purpose is not advisable; remember that CP gained is heavily influenced by your Rank!
  2. The CP that you gain will be determined by a formula that will not be revealed. Just know that it is based on the energy and HP that you have left after defeating your opponent.
Role-Playing Flow:

  1. A player will post in the thread, asking to participate in the Battle Castle Challenge. I will then place you on the queue, based on the number of times you have challenged the Castle in the past.
  2. Once it becomes your turn, a thread will go up for your challenge.
  3. Your battle will begin just like any other battle.
  4. Once the battle ends, your total CP will be determined, and you will be given a chance to shop for various things, such as healing your Pokemon or restoring energy. This will be covered in this post.
  5. After you have completed your shopping, your next match will begin.
  6. Repeat Steps 4-6 until you finish your third match of the Challenge; if at any point you lose, your challenge will end.
  7. Once you complete three matches in the Challenge, you will face the Castle Valet, whose Pokemon are significantly better than your previous opponents'. Again, your battle will begin and end just like any other.
  8. Once that battle ends, your total CP will be determined, and you will be given a chance to shop for various items. These items include bulk berries, type-boosting items, and more. The only time you may spend CP on prizes is after you win or lose against the Castle Valet.
  9. Your challenge will end.

Arena: Castle Hall
A long, majestic hall located in the center of the Battle Castle, the Castle Hall is the most popular battling destination in the Battle Castle. The hall itself is about ten feet wide and fifty feet long. A red carpet runs down the center of the Hall. On the sides of the hall, there are large sculptures every ten feet that a small Pokemon can hide behind. There are also three tall chandeliers in the Castle Hall that Pokemon can drop and climb on. The walls of the hall are made of adobe, but don't let that fool you; the Castle has been standing for well over two centuries now, proving that it's durable enough to withstand most attacks. Due to the nature of the arena, no weather can be summoned. Though discouraged by Lady Caitlin, seismic activity is still allowed.
~~~
The Mid-Battle and Post-Battle Shops are under construction right now. I will also need some help creating sets (similar to what RD did) when I get back if this gets approved (in about three weeks). Comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
It probably shouldn't be just you who runs the entire thing, you'll be swamped. i recommend that you hire other players to battle most of the battles (you can be the castle valet) in your place. but you could probably ref the battles.
Concept: Arcanite’s Contest Hall
Category: Contest Hall
Bio: A Place where contestants can show off their dazzling moves, and wow spectators!
Description:
In the Anime, Dawn and May both called themselves Pokémon co-ordinators. ASBers will have the chance to follow their path and become top Co-ordinators!
Once a month, I will hold a contest. There will be a week long signups phase.
Then, an appeals round will happen, like in the anime. One (or more, depending on the contest) Pokémon will perform a short routine (5 moves?), Stringing them together in unique ways to appeal to the judges.
A number of participants will advance to the next round. The number of participants advancing to the next round varies. If there are more participants, more people will advance to the knockout rounds. If there are X participants, The number of Participants in the knockout rounds will be 2^(Round down(log2(X/4))). This means that the number of players is quartered, and then lowered to the next power of 2. This makes sure that a perfect number of participants are entered in the knockout phase.
The Knockout phase will be conducted like a normal knockout tournament, with the participants battling like usual. However there will be an appeal gauge. The Appeal Gauge will be increased if your moves make a particularly appealing combo, or if you block damage from your opponent (not with protect etc.). After 5 Rounds, the co-ordinator with the most HP + Appeal Gauge wins. The Appeal Gauge is out of 50, and can increase and decrease as the ref sees fit.
I will start a contest each month, and after 10 contests have occurred, the winners from each contest will be invited to participate in the yearly grand festival. I will invite other successful co-ordinators (multiple high finishes, etc) to make a total of 16 competitors. 8 competitors will make it past the appeals round. The grand festival finals will be full battles (rather than 1vs1 or 2Vs2 for doubles contests), with teams of 3 or 4 taking part. The Grand festival will otherwise run like other contests.
Prizes:
For advancing to the Knockout rounds of a contest, each participant gains a trainer token, and the participating Pokémon gains one Move Counter, Evolution counter, and one Dream Counter.
In the Knockout rounds, your Pokémon do not earn counters after each battle, but do earn KO counters if they are successful in KOing an opponent’s Pokémon.
For advancing to the final, this is raised to two trainer counters, and if you win, you gain 3 trainer counters, and a second Move Counter, Evolution counter, and Dream Counter (as well as the invite to the grand festival).
In the Grand festival, you earn double the trainer counters.
Suggestions are welcome!
Arcanite, I really like your idea! I would personally like to see the usage of various decorations on your 'mons so that they "look" nice for contests. Perhaps some of our awesome Spriters would be willing to draw up some sprite decorations so that you could use them in your "Contest Hall"? I know there are many a spriter who would be willing to do so, you'd just need to dig them up and give 'em a call so that they could help out.
I'm so into Arcanite's idea, it's something about the anime i've allways envy, it's awesome, but i want to ask Why every month?, i know it might be king of hard but it would be awesome to have two per month (that way you have a year contest with 24 persons (then 16 pass to the next round, then 8 and so on...)
PS: as a prize of the Grand festival it would be cool to gain an object to change your spirit a little bit (like putting a scarf or a bow), i know there are awesome spiriters so it wouldn't be so hard
I'm all in favour of dressing up! I want my Lucario (Currently Riolu) to look like Sir Auron from FFX!
IF you consider how long a normal battle takes, I think 1 month is reasonable. If contests take a lot less time than expected though, I could start a new contest early.
Arcanite, perhaps if you have a fairly large staff, more contests would be possible?
Charmander, I support your idea, but what would a harder path be like?
@son of shadoo
A harder path would just have harder Pokemon like this:
Charmander, i thought legends were unallowed in ASB, yet you have Tornadus (i think) listed?
Oh, disclaimer, I'm not putting up an idea just yet.
@lady salamence
I haven't seen anything saying they're unallowed. If you can find something, I'll remove it, there is just no way to get them with TC. They're in Zarator's raid thing as well, and the tournament prize is probably going to be a shiny Suicune/Raikou/Entei. They're not really disallowed, it's just like in the regular games that you have to get them a special way. No one is going to get the Pokemon they battle anyway.
There's nothing wrong with fighting legendaries. You fight legendaries in Dusk's Subway once you get a high enough streak; the same goes for the Castle, should that be approved. Zarator's raid idea also had a legendary as the "raid boss". I also don't think that Charmander said anything about obtaining the Pokemon you beat... or did I miss something again?
I've changed so many thing that I decided to just delete the old post and put up this one.
I'm in this with iiMKUltra.
The Battle Hall
(format stolen from Engineer who stole it from Zarator who stole it from Dusk)
The Battle Hall is a role playing challenge that uses both battling skills and decision making to make a fun, mischievous challenge for the battler. It is very versatile as the challenger can either take the safe, low rewarding route or the high risk, high return approach to complete it. It also provides rewards for the Pokemon entered in the form of 1 MC, 1 TC, and 1 DC.
Player Details:
  1. Five People can enter the Battle Hall at a time.
  2. The entry fee to enter the Battle Hall is 1 TC. This is not supposed to be a loss for the trainer, but is required so he/she does not pull out for any reason without consequence. After the challenge, this TC will always be returned in the form of a BT to the trainer along with their rewards.
Battle Details:
  1. You must battle all 17 Pokemon to win. Rewards will have check points (EX: beat 0-1 Pokemon, 0 BT. 3-5, 2 BT, etc.)
  2. Weather, including Gravity and Trick Room, is subject to change in all arenas. Sand Stream, Drizzle, Drought, and Snow Warning will all function normally.
Challenge Details:
  1. Each challenge will start with a table showing possible opponents pre-picked in each arena. It will be a table with Pokemon types showing each trainer's single Pokemon resembling the opponents, and the challenger will start anywhere they want. Upon victory, the challenger will have the choice to move anywhere on the table and start a new battle. If the challenger loses, their challenge will end.
  2. A trainer who enters will enter one (or two in doubles) of their Pokemon. This Pokemon can not be substituted out, and a trainer may not enter this challenge at more than one time. The challenge will take up one of the slots of the three consecutive battle limit. This means a trainer can not enter if they are already in three battles.
  3. At the end of the challenge, the entered Pokemon will be rewarded with 1 EC (if applicable), 1 MC, and 1 DC (if applicable). The trainer will also be awarded with a certain amount of BTs; the amount of battles they win will determine this.
  4. There is no waiting list. This is because of player activity; when one spot is open, anyone can join regardless of who has been here before.
  5. Inactivity for 3 days will result in a DQ. The 1 TC entry price will not be refunded if you are DQd, and you will automatically be withdrawn from the challenge. Pokemon will not be rewarded if their trainers are DQd.
Role-Playing Flow:
  1. A player will post in the thread asking to participate in the Battle Hall challenge and chose an arena. I will add them to the queue under the arena they pick and add their record.
  2. Your challenge will be added if procedures are followed correctly
  3. Between battles, your Pokemon will be fully healed; updates to moves, counter, and evolution stage will take place.
  4. You will pick the next spot on the table that you wish to challenge
Battle Format:
  • Pokemon: 1v1 or 2v2
  • DQ: 3 days
  • Abilities: All
  • Items: None
  • 2 Recovers / 5 Chills
Arena: Stadium Arena
The Stadium Arena is similar to the Tournament Arena, with all weather and seismic activity permitted. There is a lake in the middle so water moves are allowable. It is a circle of hard packed earth around 40 feet in diameter in a stadium remarkably similar to Wembley, so digging is permitted. The crowd can become involved in the battle at the referee’s discretion.
Here is the table along with some random restrictions:
Ghost: Nohface, Shuppet, Yamask, Duskull, Frillish
Dark: Poochyena, Purrloin, Zorua, Vullaby, Sandile
Steel: Nohface, Klink, Beldum, Ferroseed, Shieldon
And the data for all those which we won't do until this is approved because it will take some time
Rank 1 will have shit in it such as Magikarp and Feebas. Rank two will have better stuff. You get the picture.
Also, if this gets approved, I think 1 challenge => 5 BT for me and iiMKUltra each is a fair ratio because there are five battles.
The Battle Board
The Battle Board (format stolen from possibly everyone)
The Battle Board is an idea I came up with a while ago. After a certain mount of members join, I set up a “chess board,” if you will. It will include landscape. The rules are special, however. Which I shall explain further on.
Player Details: Each user may bring one (1) Pokemon to the Arena with them. Every “round,” each user is permitted to move 1 box, I all directions. If it ends up that two (2) users land on the same box, a battle shall start!
Battle Details: So, a battle started, did it? Well then, let’s begin! First, we’d need a ref. Once I get a ref out of my list of available refs, we can begin the battle with these rules.
· Pokemon: 1v1
· DQ: 2 days
· Switch: Impossible
· Abilities: All
· Items: None
· 2 Recovers / No Chills
Challenge Details:
The arena will be chosen depending on the box that was fought on, with different boosting and harming capabilities.
Referees:
Wait, so how do you referees come in? Here’s how. If there are 4 players, we’d need 2 referees, for obvious reasons; 8 players, 4 referees. Note: This does court to your reffing limit.
This part is what I really don’t know how to explain but is mandatory reading
If no users sign up for a week, we’ll go with whatever number there currently is.
Type A: 4 fighters, 2 referees
Type B: 6 fighters, 3 referees
Type C: 8 fighters, 4 referees
Type D: 10 fighters, 5 referees
Type E: 12 fighters, 6 referees
Type not if I can stop it: 14- Let’s not go that far, ok?
Prizes:
What you guys all read this for. The prizes.
Fighter prizes:
Type A:
Beat 0 users: 1 TC
Beat 1 users: 1 TC, KO Counter
Beat 2 users: 2 TC, 2 KO Counter
Beat 3 users: 3 TC, 3 KO Counters 1 MC, DC, EC
Type B:
Beat 0 users: 1 TC
Beat 1 users: 1 TC, KO Counters
Beat 2 users: 2 TC, KO Counters
Beat 3 users: 3 TC, KO Counters
Beat 4 users: 4 TC, KO Counters
Beat 5 users: 5 TC, KO Counters 1 DC, MC, EC
Must I go on with the prizes? I think you get it now.
I’ll be setting up the boards and stuff, don’t worry.
C&C, please!
About the prizes for the Raid Zone, I came up with a system which should work as an incentive to raiding while not proving to be unbalanced.
Everytime players bring down a boss they never brought down before, they get 2 TC.
Moreover, each boss will award a number of Valor Counters (VC) depending on how hard the boss is. The counters will be used for several raid oriented items (most likely they won't be available at first, but they will surely be in the future). Among these, some possible ideas are:
- Raid-only items which restore HP and/or energy
- Move tutors which teach unique raid-oriented moves which you cannot use outside raids (don't expect ultra-powerful attacks, most often they will be otherwise unaccessible secondary effects)
- Raid-oriented held items which you cannot use outside raids (again, same warning I made about moves applies here too)
If you have other suggestions, I would be happy to hear them. I will edit the OP accordingly anyway.
