Shiny HUNTING?

At around 40 or so, it seems to be advisable that you shouldn't risk breaking your chain (if you're looking for a Shiny). If you use the pokeradar while still in a chain, you reset the positions of the wild Pokemon. This can be exploited if you want to avoid the edges or don't like the placement of the grass patches that you got.

I caught two Shiny Ralts yesterday (first was a female, kept the chain going and found a male in about 10 minutes), so I'm inclined to say it raises your odds. Female was #42 and male was #45.

Good idea on GF's part, now shiny hunting is actually viable. I was never really a fan of it, but now with the fact that you can influence the nature with Synchronize, it gives you a chance at shinies that are actually USABLE.

Shinies have always been "USABLE"...I myself have a couple of shinies with good natures (Timid Charizard, Jolly Rayquaza, Careful Umbreon, Relaxed Porygon2, and a Mild Sceptile). Though they don't have the BEST IVs, they are pretty good (Porygon2 has flawless SAtk, and above 23 in HP, Def, and SDef, Umbreon has 30 SDef and around 25 HP and Def, the rest are just bordering average). You've always had the chance to get them that way. I actually see this as undermining the value of shinies. Since it's a much easier way to get one, everybody will be doing it. I'd much rather soft reset and egg hatch, but I guess that's just me.

Actually, it looks like performing this trick is a very difficult task to complete...>.> And you've been VERY lucky with your shinies lol.

it is still pretty difficult to get them with the annoying breaking of chains.... i just lost a 67 long chain of sneasles because of a fucking snover.....i killed that bastard.... flareblitz from a lvl 100 infernape...

If you get to 40, it seems to not be worth risking your chain to go to everything that shows up in the grass. Carefully walk around and use the pokeradar to reset the positions (and hopefully get a Shiny patch), rather then always go for the next Pokemon. It could still take a bit of time, but you should find a Shiny rather soon.

why is everyone going for shinx lol?

Because golden Shinx/Luxray look badass. That and they are pretty easy to find xP

This trick isn't really that difficult to complete, just extremely frustrating. I lost a 35 Shinx chain to a Ralts two days ago, and am still too frustrated to continue.

I've been trying to do this as a break from IV breeding, but it's pretty frustrating. Like when my chain of Chanseys is broken by a goddamn Bibarel. I hate those things so damn much.

So far twice I have encountered shiny bidoofs. Probably one of the worst shinies to see, let a lone twice for that matter. I remember the first time quite well, it happened something like this:

It was a beautiful day outside, yet there I was, stuck inside my house, trying to feed my blissey bidoof after bidoof so I could start wifi battling with it. FEED BLISSEY, FEED! And then, out of the midst of the slightly tall/short grass outcame a might roar! "

Oh no, it's bidoof!" said Max from pokemon.

After it came out, I noticed that it shined every single time it came out.

"Oh what a perfect gift I can give to those mighty sppf'ers for bold/relaxed cresselias!" I muttered to myself

Quickly, I threw the ultra ball at the magnificent creature that lay before me.

"Shoot it was sooo close too!"
Me: "#$&%!!!!!"

6 ultra balls later, I did it! (6 wtf? I mean that thing was at level 2)

"Yes!!! My very first shiny!!!!" *dances*

I traded it away for a bold cresselia with 31 HP, 28 defense, and 30 sp def on serebiiforums.com 20 minutes later....lol

AND THAT! Is the story of my very first REAL shiny. (the gyarados doesn't count)
As for the other bidoof, that story will be for another day.

Yea, bibarels freakin' suck.

I've been hunting for a shiny pachirisu with pickup since I first got results on this thread. The highest chain I've got was only 17. Of course I haven't had a ton of time to spend on shiny hunting since I've had so much time at work.

We'll see what the weekend brings. :)

I have been tring my hand at this and everywhere I go Shellos breaks my chain. As a matter of fact Iwas on a streak of 39 Gastrodon when Shellos pops out so I gladly raped it with a Tri Attack from my PorygonZ after 3 Nasty Plots. I also shit myself when I saw a Shiny Gastly kill itself with curse

Wow that sucks with the gastly!

I've found that now that I'm hunting that pachirisu with my Pikachu I have a lot better success of consecutively getting the correct pokemon. Now to actually put more time into it :P

My one big probelm is that all the pokemon I try to hunt are rare. Tauros, Larvitar, Chansey, it's a real bummer trying to find them and getting some shit like Geodude.

My longest chain stands at 21 with Machop before it was broken by... Geodude.

It's extremely frustrating(the shiny hunting w/pokeradar) and I'm a person to quit when something really frustrates me. Actually 3 weeks ago I found my first shiny in d/p ever.

I was just walking through rainy Route 212 and i saw a pokemon and I was like "OMG, it's PIMPwooper(pink). It was Relaxed Nature. It took 2 Ultra balls.

Conclusion: You get lucky when you aren't even trying. And vice-versa.

Right, I've been attemtping to chain larvitar with no luck as a break from my Buizel streaks.

When I was chaining Buizel my repel ran out, I attempted to make it to the patch anyway, and before I get there, lo and behold i was ambushed by a shiny bidoof, which was then traded for a shiny Umbreon. I still want a Buizel though.

You guys are the ones whose shinies don't commit Hara kiri when you try and catch them but I did get lucky and snag a Shiny Gastrodon. Now to get a blue one

i suggest after chaining 40, stop going any higher and keep resetting the pokeradar until you find the shiny...the animation lasts quite a bit longer than the other shakes and after looking at 40+ shakes, you'll be able to distinguish that bush..

i caught a shiny magnemite, geodude, ponyta, and two zigzagoon. so i know it works. once you're at 40 it's a sigh of relief cuz it shouldn't take longer than 10-20min before you find it.

This going to make shiny hunting more interesting, perhaps even fun.Luckily I don't tend to get frustrated to fast. Now it's even going to be harder to wait for the 27 july to come around...

And don't even get me started on Elekid, been trying to chain them, not even with the intention of getting a shiny, but in hopes to snatch a Electrizer. Yet I can't get a chain past 6 before a damn Buizel ruins the chain.

lol I got 4 Electirizers in a row without even having a Compoundeyes Pokemon.

Anyways, I can't seem to get this chaining thing right... Does anyone have any percentages or something?

My advice is that they will come out when you're not looking for because I just found a Shiny Floatzel while searching for a Dusclops.

i chained 5 dittos (ditto hunting!) and came across a shiny gastrodon.

sadly, i had a level 8 umbreon and a level 12 magikarp with me. the other 4 slots were eggs.

needless to say, 5 ultraballs werent enough to catch a gastrodon at full health.
