Yes, actually. By having Azelf use Explosion it can easily build momentum on whatever switches-in, which is huge for Hyper Offensive teams. Also Azelf gets skill swap so it can get past magic bouncers, which separates it from other leads.

Aerodactyl has a whole host of problems that make Azelf better. Namely the existence of Mega Sableye, which Aero falls fat vs. whereas Azelf can lay hazards versus with it's bulky Colbur set which has been picking up momentum recently (takes Fake Out-->Foul Play, giving it 3 turns to flinch, Skill Swap away Magic Bounce and use Stealth Rock). The reason for it's usage lies in the team that JuanchoTarcorta brought up in the post above mine combined with OLT just generally really liking HO typespam which--guess what--commonly runs the aforementioned Colbur Azelf as a lead (even though xtra isn't on his particular team).
Azelf is hardly ran offensively for most of the reasons you suggested, especially since it's outsped by ScarfTar. However, the advantages you mentioned Aerodactyl having over Azelf barely matter at all; better typing and bulk are completely irrelevant on a mon designed as a suicide lead, and the only mons that fall between Azelf and Aero's speed tier are Weavile, Talonflame, Tornadus-T, and Alakazam, of which only the latter two really matter if they have Taunt (Taunt Talon doesn't run enough Speed for Azelf) which is rare on both. Meanwhile Azelf is far more versatile and has a decent amount of options to help bypass potential obstacles that would otherwise impede it from setting up SR and, more importantly, maintain the offensive momentum with the fast, strong BOOM, while Aero can be rather helpless to hurt things / get its teammates in once its job is done.
if azelf rises its just going to drop after people stop spamming that aids birdspam ho in a month or so. the only things i really think should drop from ou are mega venu and raikou, though ladder does use both a lot for some reason despite them being such shitmons.

They are based on Glicko scores. 0 is all data, 1500 is data from players with ≥1500 glicko, 1695 is data from players with ≥1695 glicko and 1825 data is from players with ≥1825 glicko. For reference, the data used for tiering is the 1695 data.

Lol lando-t is in 1 in 3 teams. You know a tier has a centralization problem when people are running hp ice lando just to kill other landos....

lando-t isnt a problem the reason its usage is high is aids megas like zardx and lopunny as well as sand being everywhere makes it extremely difficult not to use. the implication that the tier would be better withotu lando (if thats actually what youre implying) is kinda foolish considering how much harder teambuilding would become and how ridiculous all those things would be to manage without gluemon supreme lando here to save the day.
Yeah, and just like Groudon in Ubers, where you need it to check Xern and Kyogre, you need Landp-t as a sponge. I don't think it's broken, it's just annoying to see it on every team. Then again Aegislash got banned for being overcentralizing, so you never know.
Yeah I wouldn't say P-Groudon was broken, it does have checks if no guaranteed counters (but then quite a few Ubers don't). That said it's so good that there's little reason NOT to run it on your team, and as a result it makes Ubers extremely tedious to play. If I ever make an Ubers pet mod, I'm banning the Red Orb.
Lol Lando-T is like the main mon holding the tier together alongside Latios. If one of these two mons got banned, it would cause a shitstorm of other borderline mons becoming incredibly unstoppable.
Edit: oh btw Aegi was banned for more than just being too over centralizing, it also created many 50/50s with King Shield which made it too coinflip reliant on the meta.

FYI--September stats are going to be delayed a while. Got a giant, hairy bug regarding how Zoroark's reveal is treated in the logs, so I'm going to need to figure out how to fix that before I can even try rerunning the usage scripts.
Edit: I think I fixed the bug. Wish me luck. And wish me progress with Project Onix. Can't promise that this kind of thing won't ever happen with the new stats system, but (1) I should catch it a lot sooner, (2) I shouldn't have to rerun stats for the entire month just to deal with a few problematic logs and (3) fixing bugs won't involve me trying to make sense of horribly-written, poorly-documented spaghetti code.
