I know users are burned out out on Modern Warfare, but CoD4 had some innovate and fascinating storytelling for a shooter. There's a lot to say about it in discussion. You have to wonder what the total votes for all the CoD games were, like if different fans spread them out and that's what got them all eliminated.

I bet most of the people who voted haven't actually play CoD2/4 or BF2 or Borderlands....... Or Bayonetta.

Inb4 CoD5 being voted out.

It's stated in the rules that you are expected to vote "ABSTAIN" if you have not played a game before. It's also stated that you are not to vote on a game based on how you feel about it, but to make an honest effort to genuinely evaluate a game's quality. Given the voting distribution, I'd say it's more likely people are following the abstain rule, but not the bias rule.

I know I can't police it, but I would really like users to do their best to evaluate games without bias. I, too, found it unusual that all of the CoD games were eliminated so handily, and the fact that one user even posted "all these FPS games, ick" tells me at least some voters might not be following the rules.

If this list is to be as accurate as we can get it, we need to actually care. Hopefully the end results will show that, but we'll see how it goes.

Man, I don't even like shooters much at all and I still voted yes on CoD2, the only one I've played. Abstained on the rest like I'm supposed to.

I plan to vote completely biased.

If I played and didn't enjoy a game, I'm going to vote No. I have not played a lot of games in genres I don't particularly enjoy anyway.

i tend to agree with vineon and zacchaeus.

if we assume that a game's quality is determined solely by how entertaining it is to play, then a player who found it frustrating or otherwise not entertaining can't reasonably consider it a good game. it's possible for individuals to dislike games that are widely considered to be great, but they shouldn't be expected to vote against their own experience with the game.

Yeah but are we really giving CoD4 a fair shake or just lumping all the games together after two years of stagnation?

I dunno, maybe I'm overanalyzing. I mean, part of what makes a game "great" is its ability to entertain the gamer, right? So if a person played a game and didn't enjoy it, that game really was "bad" in their eyes, even if they look at it objectively. I suppose this is where we reach the fruition of the problem that lies in making a list of this nature - it's literally impossible to be 100% accurate because even the fundamentals are opinion based.

Oh well, I think it's at least going well so far. If Call of Duty is the only casualty we have, I can live with that. Besides, this first part isn't nearly as important as the second part, which will be actually rating and ranking the games once we're down to 100. That, since it will be more merit and discussion based, should at least provide us with reasonably accurate rankings within that group, even if a few titles didn't make the top 100 that we feel should. I honestly think a lot of us will be surprised at how acceptable our list is when it's all said and done.

COD being voted out on a Nintendo game forum?

No surprises here.

I don't get your point

I myself am surprised that Borderlands and Battlefield 3 got dropped from the list. Maybe some of you should play games on systems other than Nintendo?

Kidding, of course, but I am still surprised.

Now I have to figure out what to do about the slew of pokemon games that will come up a few groups from now. I like them and all but I hope we don't end up with like every gen in the top 100.
