birmingham sign obafemi martins on loan

also what is with this over-valuation of strikers. darren bent for 18 mil was a joke, carroll for 35 million is completely insane, despite it being transfer deadline day

don't forget Suarez...20 odd million for someone from a mickey mouse league is crazy. I must admit I was also tickled at offers in the region of 4 million for Charlie Adam...he's worth at least 5 times that.

Yeah, what does harry redknapp (renowned for his cunning in the transfer market) and dalglish (one of the most successful coaches in the history of English football) know?

Well he's younger than Bent, so I guess they're investing in potential? You can't say he won't be a top player though. I guess it comes down to all the inflation in the market since teams like Chelsea, Man City don't mind paying stupid amounts... so everyone doubles their prices and voila.

David Villa is arguably the best striker in the world and top 5 player in the world, who has proven himself at every level he has played at, Andy Carroll isn't close to that level.

Darren Bent is much more proven in the Premier league and still got a few years in him.

Sky Sports claim that we've rejected an improved bid of 40 million. The suspense is killing me!

If he doesn't wanna be here then I don't want him here. He obviously isn't the man I thought he was.

He's obviously had his head turned by false Daglish promises and looking forward to going out on the lash with Gerrard and co. Hopefully Nolan isn't part of the deal :P

There's still the hope that he fails his medical ( he has been injured for about a month after all) but I couldn't care less at this point tbqh.

arrghhh sorry lee but andy carroll isnt worth half of that 35 million pounds, unless Chelsea give us a gigantic amount of money for Torres, this is a complete waste of money.

though id like to see Carroll at Liverpool especially if we get adam (adam long balls + carroll's ability in the air is monstrous for opposing teams)

So Andy Carroll is worth more then David Villa and Carlos Tevez and 16m more then Darren Bent, how does that work

this though

this will probably turn liverpool into a route 1 team. charlie adam and steven gerrard firing long balls into carroll, who will just knock them down for suarez. not the kind of football you want to be playing to get succeed in europe, yet alone finish in the position required for it.

Dalglish is known for his whole pass and move ethos (from when he played, apparently) so I doubt there'll be too much route 1 stuff.

Carroll isn't worth 35mill, but as has been pointed out somewhere, we've spent about 67mill, received 50, so 17 million net spend is about what we wanted to do in the first place (Suarez + Adam, 12 + 4 million).

Ajax will not buy a replacement for Luis Suárez. Ajax got 25M Euro, Utrecht winger Dries Mertens costs 7,5M, a low price for an awesome player. But Ajax director Rick van den Boog only wants to pay 4M, so Mertens won't come. Because VD Boog wants to use the Suárez-millions to buy a good new car and a big house near the Spanish coasts for himself.

Dries Mertens from FC Utrecht is worth 7,5M, I am surprised Utrecht doesn't ask more money. Some people might remember him from the Europa League.

TRANSFER UPDATES

Tottenham striker Giovani Dos Santos loaned to Racing Santander.

Bolton signed Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea on loan.

that's actually a fantastic signing for racing santander, outside of munitis who only has a left foot and rosenberg who is not exactly consistent they really lack good creative attacking players. Dos Santos has always been more suited to spanish football.

Birmingham getting Martins was also a great signing.

We sold N'Zogbia because he was a diva. He's an amazing player but we finally have the team playing for one another and I'd rather not sign a player that might jeaprodise that.

If Carroll doesn't sign a contract in the next 9 minutes he might just be staying in toon...
