The Everything NFL Thread - 2009

I had to lol at the local paper's prediciton for Cardinals V Colts, all 5 of them actually said the Cardinals would pull off a win here. Really don't know what the hell they were smoking...

1.) cards easily took down a jags team that almost beat the colts at indy.
2.) nfc 2008 champs
3.) cards ranked twice as high than colts in total defense
4.) warner/fitz/boldin is just as good as manning/wayne/clark
5.) 5th ranked rushing defense vs 29th ranked rushing offense -.-

that all being said, both teams have a legit shot and i probably would take the colts if you are actually playing for a pool, but counting out the cardinals would be a pretty dumb move :/

I'm picking the lions over the foreskins too lol. Also I've decided to stick with Gore despite the Vikes' defense, since my other options in Thomas Jones, Reggie Bush, and Mike Bell aren't any more promising.

The 49ers would like to have a word with you.

Also, its funny to note that the Colts can score 27 points in 15 mins

To put it into perspective, that's usually how long a team has the ball in a half in a balanced game.

edit: I forgot to mention

Guess who has the number 1 pass defense? Hint: Not the Cardinals

Guess who is in the bottom half of passing defense? Hint: Not the Colts

Guess who is the number 1 passing offense?: Hint: Not the Cardinals or the Colts

Colts are number 3 btw

Pretty much what I was thinking, also adding that, as much as I like Warner, he's no Manning.

colts havent played 49ers, what is your point? jags are a team that they both have played and the cards did better. this early in the season, we have to rely on that.

against utter trash -.-. 49ers are at least much better than the dolphins, a team that has apparently changed their entire team strategy from last year. that being said, its impressive the colts did that but that also proves they do a terrible job of controlling the clock, and a silly mistake like that could be horrible when fighting a cards team that thrives against tired defenses.

i gave reasons to not count the cards out lol, i didn't say they were better than the colts in every stat. i don't really see the point of your statistics at all.

fitz/boldin is much better/more reliable than wayne/clark, so it evens out with manning > warner.

absolutely no reason this won't be a shootout/close game/game cards could win. the reason i was compelled to respond was simply:

I had to lol at the local paper's prediciton for Cardinals V Colts, all 5 of them actually said the Cardinals would pull off a win here. Really don't know what the hell they were smoking...

Eh, for some reason the Cards look like they're missing something from last season. They just don't seem like the same team I saw in the Super Bowl. But maybe they're just slow starters. Can't predict this game til I see it!

Saddened by the Falcons loss. So many missed opportunities and omg don't get me started on that run defense .-.

So, how about them 3-0 Giants AND Jets.

Great day for NY in general.
Mets won (although not much good will come out of this. =(
Yanks won (clinching division)
Giants won (pwning the Bucks throughout the game)
Jets won (close game against the Titans)

Thoughts:

1. My Ravens dominated the Browns as expected
2. Holy fuck the Lions win! (I called it)
3. Jets are looking very impressive at the moment.
4. I was suprised as fuck that the Saints had scored 10 point in 3 quarters. Then I saw the last quarter score.
5. I want to have Carlson Palmers children.

Three Words:

Screw Brett Favre
Change screw to fuck, and I'll agree. God, that was just horrible...even more insulting that receiver was just barely barely in as well...why couldn't the old fart stay retired for once?

Gore also being injured is bleh as well. Least next week is the Rams, who are gonna drop to 0-4 now.

5. I want to have Carlson Palmers children.
don't be too eager to make this statement, as your fellow ravens fan, we should be more worried of the bengals than the steelers right now. they are on a roll, should be 3-0 (miracle broncos play prevented this), palmer is finally 100% healthy, and i seem to recall a season a while ago where the bengals were trailing the ravens 20-3 and the ravens looked unstoppable ... until palmer came in, torched us up, and led bengals to playoffs/close to playoffs.

this bengals team looks a lot better than i think they are being given credit for, they know how to hang in the 4th quarter and that is what gives them an edge

10 things of the nfl so far

1.) i called bengals/lions winning, 49ers lost on a fluke, and rams lost bulger
2.) titans are the most overrated 0-3 team ever, come on, houstan lost to jags for goodness sake -.-. collins just looks bad and the franchez passed all over them
3.) broncos fluked past cinci and will probably finish 8-8, but that team is very much improved from last year.
4.) ravens are the best :DDDD
5.) bills aren't a bad team, they kept brees in check and should have beat pats
6.) mike tomlin is apparently 0-8 (someone please confirm), in games that start at 4:15 EST.
7.) 49ers are for real, and lost a game to a fluke and they had no gore :o
8.) saints aren't bad defensively, at all.
9.) lol tampa bay, they look like 0-16 right now, just nothing happening on either side of ball

and finally

10.) just a big big big LOL at the browns, whos offense consists of "dink/dunk" and "ball control 4th quarter, even when losing". i doubt they can even win a game, riots off the field, they all hate mangini, qb controversies (camera showing quinn laughing his ass off on the sidelines for when da kept throwing picks was hilarious though). da i guess is colorblind. of course, quinn has a noodle of an arm. shawn rogers/cribbs is all they have playmaker wise, keep cribbs in check and you win. if you watched the game, rogers had 1 15 yard penalty which made me and my brother rofl, he took a ravens and swung him around like a rag doll, "Welcome to the league, fucking rookie"

Things im Thinking:
1. Tough loss for steelers, but they deserved losing even though they're my favorites
2.Browns, Stink STILL???? Geez, they need a good season.
3. Patriots will not make it to play-offs
4. lions might start playing good :)

That's true I guess KD, I guess my hate for the Steelers overshadowed my sight of the bigger picture lol.

Yeah the Saints and Jets are both looking fucking scary, the way the Jets especially are playing is enough to strike fear into the hearts of all AFC followers.

Also the Panthers need to get it going soon otherwise all their good work last season will be for nothing.

My thoughts on some of the games so far:

Lions vs Skins- I really don't know whats wrong with the Skins offense but wow is it bad, the yards are there they just are not scoring, glad to see the Lions win one, but I wish Stafford and Calvin had some chemistry going (I have Calvin in a money fantasy league)

49ers vs Vikes- Heartbreak loss here on top of an injury to Gore, the last play was real bad, I don't think Favre even should've got the pass off, and then the catch is just insane.

Jags vs Texans- Schaub is looking real good, if he stays healthy he is easily a top 5 QB this year and I like that MJD is showing he can have a heavy workload despite concerns that he can't, we'll see later in the season.

Giants vs Bucs- Good to see my team is rolling, no sacks, but when the opponent has the ball for about 10 plays you can't really complain.

Titans vs Jets- I really think the Titans are coming back to Earth, last year was probably a fluke, Kerry Collins is obviously not what they need. Might be time to let VY get a look, Jets are looking real good even with a rookie at QB.

Steelers vs Bengals- The Bengals are really surprising me, I thought Benson was done but he just keeps getting yards and carries proving me wrong. The Bengals should be tied with Baltimore right now, but if they continue to pull out wins they could be the Cinderella story of the season.

Broncos vs Raidaz- Broncos have given up 16 points, they are a defensive juggernaut.

To be fair, if you consider the last play of the Vikings-49ers game a fluke, then I consider the blocked field goal at the end of the second quarter a fluke. Do you see the problem here? Don't make excuses, please. By your reasoning, the Cardinals should have won the Super Bowl last year because James Harrison's (who actually deserved the MVP award of that game) interception touchdown at the end of the first half was a "fluke" too. The only actual flukes that occur in football are when penalties that should not have been called are in fact called (I can think of a couple games last year that fall under this category).

Coincidentally, at the beginning of the season I said something along the lines of "The Steelers have one of the easiest schedules in the league, but they'll probably find a way to drop more games this year than last year." Looks like they're trying their hardest to prove me right.

Also, does anyone else fucking hate announcers when they talk about streaks and such? They spent the whole game talking about how "Roethlisberger has never lost in Ohio" and "Pittsburgh has won the last 8 games against the Bengals." SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY!!!

Oh well, at least the running game did something today. Too bad I dropped Parker and kept Mendenhall on my fantasy team *facepalm*
